My Chemical Romance: Danger Days

Just wondering on what your thoughts are on Danger Days, the new MCR Album?. The video to SING is really amazing.. They never seem to disappoint. If this has already been posted sorry, I couldn't find it anywhere.

First impressions are not very good. Sounds like they replaced the orchestral epic backrounds from Black Parade with a bunch of synthesizer nonsense. Some of the songs sound like generic pop songs.

There are some catchy tracks, but it doesn't sound anywhere near as creative as they got on Black Parade. Just feels like a huge step back for them.

It's weird, it doesn't really sound anything like their previous albums, so they were at least trying to progress, but it doesn't work in this case, if you ask me.

I'm liking Destroya though.

funny you should say this. i was reading an article about this album in one of the rival street press rags this week and they had a pretty interesting quote from ray toro:

"we really tore down the walls about what we could do as a band. there was no worry about using whatever we needed to do to make a song work, no worrying about what instruments we were using - electronics, drum samples, keyboards... whatever it took to make the song special is what we did. that definitely wasn't the case with the previous recordings."

which is pretty much the exact opposite sentiment to what you expressed, heh.

Well I'm just saying, nothing stands out like a lot of the songs on Black Parade did.

It's ok on first listen. I want to go back and check it some more. I don't care for it as much as Black Parade or Three Cheers, but it seems like sort of combination of the two. Maybe 60% Three Cheers, 40% Black Parade.

I'm just glad it wasn't touted as a "return to form", which is what I usually expect from a band after they put out an album that strays from their main sound.

Bands usually only attempt a "return to form" when their more experimental album fails. To my knowledge, Black Parade was a success on all fronts.

Yeah, not really feeling too much of the album, but are the skit tracks supposed to be based on Fallout 3 or something?

I'm really enjoying this album. For some weird reason I have been listening to MCR a lot (maybe to hark back to my college days). This is kind of like a modern take on the nostalgia effect.

I never really liked them that much so this is sort of hard/weird to admit, but I downloaded the newest My Chemical Romance album and I actually like most of it.

Wowzers.
