10th Planet Jiu Jitsu
I've been doing some reading up on Eddie Bravo and 10th Planet, mainly due to Rogan, partly due to the little "feud" with Josh Barnett. Anyway, I've come to the following conclusion: Eddie Bravo is a fucking Carny as far as Jiu Jitsu goes.
I've seen the three main tenents of his system: the Rubber Guard, the Lockdown, and the Twister. 1. The Twister: This one was the one that caused the "feud" with Barnett. He claims to have invented the move, when in reality it is a Catch Wrestling move. Aka the Cobra Twist or the Guillotine. 2. The Lockdown: Not so much as the Twister, but from what I've seen, it's another Catch Wrestling move: the Scorpion Leglock. But, he "invented" it. yeah. 3. the Rubber Guard: From what I can tell, it's a decent move. I won't give it hell except for this: you need to be flexible to pull it off. Joe Rogan is allegedly very flexible and is a Bravo student. He's also talked about having two ACL surgeries. Coincidence? I think not. Then, there's his fighting record: He beat Royler Gracie and lost to someone else. No World titles or anything else. Basically, he's milking one win for all its worth. More power to him, I guess. In essence, Eddie Bravo is a carny who is using Catch Wrestling moves in Brazillian Jiu Jitsu. Far from the first to do it (Kimura, anyone?). And yet, he also insists on insulting Catch Wrestling. I'll have more on it at a later time. Until then. Opinions? = "KARA-TAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!" Question Mark.
