I remember when the Rock Bottom looked weak. Back before Rock really started getting air with it.

Iron claw was terrible.

Bionic elbow was cool, but why didn't he just do it at the beginning of the match?

Okay, so given the time period that Hogan came up in, I'll concede that the Leg Drop isn't the worst of the bunch; there are lots of finishers from back then that are mundane now.

DTTS may have found a winner with the Iron Claw, though. I don't think I've ever seen anyone make that not look idiotic.

If we're going by realism standards then 90% of the best finishers in the world wouldn't be all that great. The Rock Bottom? Seems like a DDT would be more devastating. Hell a suplex is probably as painful, if not more so.

Hell if realism is the makings of the best finisher then Big Show's WMD or Knockout Punch is the greatest finisher ever because it makes more sense than almost any of them considering that it's quick, requires almost no set up and in reality a punch like that from a giant would probably do more damage than just being dropped on a mat.

This is professional wrestling, not a real sport. A finisher should be judged by how much of a spectacle it is, not how much damage it'd actually do or how realistic it is.

Have to agree with the Styles Clash/Faith Breaker though. Even suspending belief, it's hard to see how someone slamming your knees into the mat will "knock you out" for the 3 count.

Unless it's a second/top rope variant.

To be fair, though, much like the worm, people's elbow, huri-chokeslam, etc., the setup (or teased setup for false finishes) is more of the payoff than the actual finisher.

You have to consider the timeframe of the move. The Iron Claw was a good finisher for its time. Nowadays, not so much. Same as Hogan's legdrop.

dumbest finisher? The sleeper hold. Especially when they would slap your trap muscle to 'wake you up'.

Maybe I'm saying that I hated Brutus the Barber. Yeah, that's what I'm saying.

Gotta tell ya, the zig zag is pretty lame. Wish he'd just steam the Fameasser or the Rough Rider as his finishing move.

I know I don't have too much room since I just reversed course on the leg drop, but the sleeper? I mean, you do know that's a legit martial arts choke-hold, right? We can talk aesthetics versus realism all you want, but the sleeper is one of my favorite old-school finishers out there; simple to apply, obvious in what it does, and would still be genuinely effective if it was a real fight. Yeah, nowadays it's just another rest hold for the babyface to transition into his comeback sequence, but I'd still buy someone straight choking their opponent out for the win.


I'll agree about the Zig-Zag, though. If anything, I think Dolph should use that sweet jumping DDT as his finisher.

I know better than most about the sleeper, since I've tapped many times to the rear naked choke when I roll. I think I had the epiphany about me not really hating the sleeper as much as I hated Brutus the Barber Beefcake mid post.

It is alright when someone knows how to sell it, but if you watch lately, some of the guys walk to the rope and just fall on it. It's sloppy, I would never fall for it.

I could salvage it for a dream Rey heel run, instead of the setup Rey can wait until someone is standing by the ropes and just drop the kick into their testicles and pan in on Rey having some mean sadistic look on his face as the area swells and causes the match to end. 1. Really depends on the part of the head being used on what part of the body. When Cesaro was headbutting people in the face, that was fine, because that's actually a legit (and absolutely devastating) use of a headbutt.

2. There was an episode of Wipeout! one time that had the door knocker, which was a bit where they open a door and a big hammer would knock them into the water. A Samoan came up to that part, took the hammer to the head and kept running forward. My reaction was "Way to live up to the stereotype!"
