Lucha underground

So ive been watching it on occasion and im enjoying it, I actually like the backstage tv like stuff its just the right amount of everything its got great competition and its got some drama to it. The drama portion isnt too over bearing where it makes it cringy to watch like a lot of stuff i see from WWE or TNA. What are your thoughts and opinions?(And there's hot Mexican women so what more could you ask for?)

I like the movie like backstage segments. They're well produced and all done. Haven't caught enough of it to have a valid opinion.

It's pretty fun. I like the backstage segments being all movie-like like Damian Rey said. It's really unique and fun. The in-ring stuff is also pretty good. Hell, from the dozen or so episodes I've seen they actually made me care a little bit about Big Zeke so they're doing something right.

I enjoy Lucha Underground. I like he fact that it also plays out like a TV series. I can watch episodes that I miss On Demand thanks to Comcast. The high flying moves are awesome. Because WWE performs all over the world at a grueling pace and Lucha stays in one spot and tapes in bunches. They almost have an NXT feel to it. With Lucha and NXT on the TV, it balances out the stuff that WWE and TNA put out there.

The other thing I caught was the novela or Spanish soap opera style of storytelling. Seems they have a predetermined payoff in place that they're building for rather than the fly by night booking and last minute decision making plaguing the current WWE landscape.

Lucha Underground works for a number of different reasons.

It benefits from less is more. Having only an hour of TV, the writing is tighter than either TNA or WWE. You don't get the sense of booking on the fly.

Wrestlers are not over-exposed. You don't see the same old faces every week cutting the same old promos.

It is different to any other product on TV. In terms of wrestling, production etc. Wrestlers like Pimpinela are treated seriously than a similar character in the WWE or TNA would be.

There is a lot of 'logic' in the booking, you know who is feuding with who. You know why.

They have shown that even in a loss ie King Cuerno losing to Johnny Mundo, a wrestler can still come out of the feud looking strong and enhanced.

Clear payoffs - ie very few matches finishing on interference. Feuds taking place and being settled in the ring.

As well as the short feuds like Mundo-Cuerno, you have the longer burn of Pentagon Jnr and his master, Black Lotus.

It is actually reshaping the wrestling landscape in much the same way as ECW did all those years ago. They are taking very tired ideas - ie the coffin match, heel authority figure etc and breathing new life into them.

When they use a gimmick match they have meaning.

I'd strongly recommend everyone to check out the Coffin Match between Fenix and Mil Muertes.

The use of actors in acting roles also helps.

Dario Cueto works because he is an actor and that is his job, as opposed to wrestlers trying to be actors and being more wooden than a forest.

We know that HHH, Dixie, the McMahon's are never going to fuck off from our TVs, they are also too vain to allow themselves to be booked to allow someone to get over them in the long run. By having an actor in the heel authority role, an actor who can be written out, rather than the real owner (who even if they lose a feud we know they will be back out in 3 months time), means that LU can have Cueto being defeated in the end, in otherwords there is the potential for a heel authority feud to actually have a satisfactory finish.

Also - LU has shown how the WWE and TNA missed the boat on some guys and how actually with good booking, and thought, even someone like Ezekiel Jackson can be an interesting character. ie his confession promo was miles better than anything we've seen on WWE or TNA recently. I mean when you look at it - you can say 'oh it is just like TNA, just a load of WWE retreads' but they've managed to make the characters compelling enough that you don't really think 'oh he was that jobber on the WWE'.

Oh yeah - the years have certainly taken their toll on Vamp.

So he fucked them in school. All I know is there were rumours. There were rumours he was into field hockey players. There were rumours (So I applied basically), he was gone the next day, (I went on their team), it's like he was gone, it was like so hush hush, they were so quiet about it, and the next thing you know...

To add the promos to get over 'unknown' guys like Pentagon Jnr, Fenix, Sexy Star etc have also really helped.

The current Konnan promos are also top notch.

When you watch WWE there are always segments that are just there, but with LU I tend to feel that every promo or package is there to either advance a story or get people over.

I also like how they are letting wrestlers evolve, it is hard not to be into Pentagon Jnr, or even Son of Havoc.

I'd like to see them spend some time getting the likes of Aerostar, Drago etc over and maybe a few more women wrestlers out there.

LU is IMO the alternative to the WWE that we've been waiting for since the death of ECW.
