Was Bret REALLY that bad on the mic?
http://www.cracked.com/blog/5-insane...e-got-instead/
The above idea for Bret Hart as Batman was kind of interesting. But the thing was them saying Bret was awful on the mic. From memory I always felt like Bret wasn't the best on the mic, but was a good enough talker to sell a program with confidence. There are many folks who have held the top title in various promotions who couldn't even do that (I'm looking at you, Early '80s Bob Backlund.). So, the question I have to ask is... Well, it's in the thread title. So, have at it. = "KARA-TAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!" Question Mark.

He was good enough on the mic when he was a main eventer IMO, but only was an asset on the mic once he turned heel in 1997. Pre main event he had some great struggles.

I don't recall anyone saying Bret was awful on the mic, and if they did, they were wrong. He was no Hogan or Rock, but he could deliver.

I think this is a fair assessment. Half of the reason for the sunglasses was because he was so uncomfortable talking. He put a lot of effort into getting where he was.

I was a mark back then, so whatever anyone said about anything had me completely hooked. Looking back at it though, Bret was good. Especially when he turned heel and would rant and rage on the mic. Sure, he was no CM Punk on the mic, but he was more than capable of cutting a promo and getting his point across.

Bret Hart was good on the mic. Don't know why people think he was so terrible at all. Who are you to doubt Bret Hart?

He was far below what WWE was accustomed to as champion at the time in Hogan, Flair, Piper, Savage, HBK, etc., but he was above average overall I'd say.... he got his point across...

I think his biggest problem is that he wasn't a strong promo finisher. He was good but he didn't always hit the biggest point across before his theme music hit.

Surely OP is trolling. Looking back to the feud he had with Austin, Nation of Domination and DX etc. the mic work he had was highly impressive. and it's one of the reasons why he is.
The best their is, the best their was, and the best their ever will be and if you don't like it. Tough shit. |

he was alright, had his moments. One of the hardest things to do is sound natural, it's usually the downfall of most guys as opposed to saying the wrong things and what not and Bret fell into that kind of category, quite often sounded a bit forced as opposed to guys like Foley, Austin, Shawn and so on. Far from the worst tho.

Foley was good when he was active but as "alumni" he sounds forced always starting off calm and then screaming at the heels for no reason.

bret always talked his opponent up, made it seem like it would be a knock down match and you never knew who was gonna come out on top, his delivery may not have been superior but for a guy who likes legit wrestlers not out of this world characters he was legit

Might not have been top tier or near top tier status with the mic but still good overall. His biggest story-telling strength was always from in-ring work than just by words alone.
His best mic stuff was easily during the Hart Foundation vs DX feud that managed to also evolve into a larger USA vs Canada feud. |

Yeah Michaels wasn't anything special on the mic. Mind you, he had more charisma than Bret in many ways... I'd say his showmanship catch as catch can style was tremendously exciting, but he was never a 100 per cent money promo. I must say though, him and Bret came across as genuine on the mic.
