I kinda love that they did end it like that the more I think about it.
Because the whole series is like that. Like I feel like a pretentious dickhead or whatever but the whole series is just so subtle that it is great that it leaves you with questions as to what happened. It didn't just go with the obvious route of Tony getting killed or going to jail or whatever else everyone was expecting. Just kinda fucked with you, or just gave little hints here and there as to what may have happened. It always has been a ridiculously psychological show disguised as a mafia drama. And a weird, ambiguous ending fits kinda perfect with the show. |

Yeah, thats pretty much what I was thinking earlier. Their is a ton of symbolism and things to make you think or whatever through the whole series. The ending seemed to fit with the style of the show pretty good. Still think it was pretty gutsy though to end it like that, I'm sure a lot of people are pissed off at the ending.
For some reason I don't think there will be a movie or anything. Everything I've read has said the creator doesn't want to do a movie and that Gandolfini seems to be glad to move on from the series. Who knows though, a movie would obviously be huge so it wouldn't surprise me. |

I dunno, I was a bit disappointed. Not even talking about the ending, pretty much the whole show. If it was any other episode, I would've liked it a lot. If it was a season finale, I would've liked it. But as a SERIES finale? Dunno.
And I wasn't expecting a clear cut ending. Like I didn't think Tony would get killed or flipped or anything. I knew it would be ambiguous. But that ending was a bit too ambiguous. It was fantastic the way the tension was built, but I wanted some sort of payoff. And the episode itself didn't fell like it gave much closure to any of these characters. Overall, it just didn't feel like the end of the show. Even the worse episodes of the Sopranos are head and shoulders above most other show's best, so it was still a good watch. But I just expected more from the series finale. |

I wish I recorded it so I can rewatch that end scene. I read that when Tony walked into the diner, you could see Tony already sitting at the table. Also, someone said he reached down for his gun before they cut. Don't know about that one though.
Everytime I hear that Journey song, I'm going to have flash backs to this scene. |

found this from another board. Very interesting
So here is what I found out. The guy at the bar is also credited as Nikki Leotardo. The same actor played him in the first part of season 6 during a brief sit down concerning the future of Vito... Apparently, he is the nephew of Phil. Absolutely Genius!!!! David Chase is truly rewarding the true fans who pay attention to detail. So the point would have been that life continues and we may never know the end of the Sopranos. But if you pay attention to the history, you will find that all the answers lie in the characters in the restaurant. The trucker was the brother of the guy who was robbed by Christopher in Season 2. Remember the DVD players? The trucker had to identify the body. The boy scouts were in the train store and the black guys at the end were the ones who tried to kill Tony and only clipped him in the ear (was that season 2 or 3?). |

I didn't notice him reaching down with his gun but I probably missed a lot in the episode. Definitely gonna watch it again and pick up on some of these other things. |

I don't mean that the scene wasn't brilliant, it was amazing, but I needed more for the end.

I know what you mean. I'm still not even sure if I liked the ending or not. It fit with the series and whatnot, and it was a weird ending obviously. The more I think about it the more I kind of understand it and everything, but I still wanted more. I just hated to see the series end I think.

Almost kind of think that the second to last episode would have been a better ending. Tony going to sleep with the gun right with him was a great scene and I think probably would have been a better way to end it.

Well, there's two ways to look at it. Either Tony dies ("you never see it coming" etc etc etc), or he lives, and life goes on. To steal a quote from another board:
"The whole point is that NOTHING happened to him in the diner after it went to black. He sat down and had dinner with his family. Life went on. But the tension was there, because everyone was expecting Tony to get hit and expecting something big to happen, and it looked like it could have come from anywhere. The same thing that Tony feels every day. And when nothing happens, it's a relief. He gets another day." I'm gonna go with the latter. Those last few minutes were fucking CRAZY tense, can't remember feeling that while watching a TV show before, honestly. |

Another board:
"One theory going around is that Tony was wacked by Nicky Leotardo (suspicious looking guy sitting at the bar). What we experienced was Tony's death from his perspective. It was the exact same description of death Bobby gave him when they were fishing. "Everything just goes to black". Nicky Leotardo came out from the bathroom and shot Tony in the head just as he saw Meadow come in through the door...cut to black. No need for blood or chaos because we were seeing his perspective." |
