Watchmen
Okay, so the guys who are doing 300 are now working on Watchmen, another Alan Moore Graphic novel (Moore did V for Vendetta).
Watchmen's a great "comic," but I seriously worry about someone's ability to pull it off well. Partially because of what has been done with V, and partially because the idea's been around for a while and always failed to make it to the big screen. “There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.” --John Rogers |

The straight fact is this. If you go in trying to compare it to the book, and put it on the same pedastal, you will be dissapointed.
If you go in just to watch it as a fun movie, I think you will be very impressed. Especially if its the same guys working on it from 300. |

I don't know. On the one hand, you could say that, on the other hand, Alan Moore doesn't seem to want it made...
...The really sad thing is that it dosn't have to be that way. Transfering from one inherrently visual medium to another is not as horrific an experience as translating between a book and a movie or whatever. People don't do it, but it doesn't mean it can't be done. |

Then again after LofEG and Man-Thing, can you blame him?

Couldn't say. Didn't watch either. Though I can't blame him after V. That certainly wasn't a case of "It's hard to translate ideas to the movies," it was a case of two self-righteous cunts deciding to take an old idea to bash a message over our heads.
I don't mind adapting a movie from another source. Some of these adaptations annoy me for different reasons. |

I like Zach Snyder as director. Casting is gonna be interesting, especially for Rorschach, who will likely receive the most fan scrutiny (I like Robert Knepper from Prison Break for Rorschach btw). Snyder apparently wants to keep the Tales of the Black Freighter stuff in, which I disagree with.
In the end, of course it will be inferior to the books. But I can't wait for it anyways. Also, rumour is Gerard Butler has been cast in a role. Hasn't said who, but I would bet on The Comedian. |

Rorschach should be easy to cast, provided they haven't rewritten him into a smooth ladies man.

Lord of the Rings had parts cut out to add in a romance that was never really present in the books. V for Vendetta cut parts so that they could include a subplot about Room V and all the evils of this secret conspiracy. Eragon had important parts to better include...I don't even know how to put that one. Maybe, by keeping in this worthless sideplot deal, they will feel they've filled their quota for extraneous crap, and won't throw in random shit. Sure, they're excise something important, but at least it won't be for a sex scene between Rorschach and Ozymandias, Brokeback_Style. |

I forgot about the link between 300 and this, until Loopy posted.
I fear this movie will suck ass if anyone tied to 300 is involved. |

So, Ain't It Cool News is reporting that 3 offers for roles in the movie have gone out: to Patrick Wilson for Dan Dreiberg, Jude Law for Ozymandias, and................Keanu Reeves for Dr. Manhattan?!??
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/32743 Now remember, this is AICN, so take this with a large grain of salt. And even if it is true, it's only offers, which doesn't necessarily mean they're in. Personally, I don't mind Law for Ozy, and I really love the idea of Patrick Wilson as Dreiberg. Keanu tho.....well, let's just say I'm a little skeptical. The only romance in the LOTR books was between Frodo and Sam, so they added some heterosexual dynamic between Aragorn and Arwen. Oh fucking well, it made for a better movie trilogy.

Big update from Comic-con:
Most of the cast has been announced: Jackie Earle Haley as Rorschach Patrick Wilson as Dan/Owl Billy Crudup as Dr. Manahttan Jeffrey Dean Morgan as The Comedian Stephen McHattie as Hollis Malin Akerman as Laurie There's also been some rumours of Matthew Goode as Adrian Veidt, but nothing was said about that. I like the cast, except I'm not sold on Malin Akerman. The few things I've seen her in ahsn't given me an impression of much range. Other points from Comic-con, taken from Ain't It Cool News: -Sets are being built in Vancouver right now, including a New York City backlot. Not going to be 300 style, very little digital work except on Mars and in Antarctica. -Think more SE7EN than SIN CITY in terms of production design. -Warner Bros is behind an R-rated film. -It is period. 1985. There was talk of updating it, but Snyder said it never felt right making it about the War On Terror instead of the Cold War, so he insisted it be set in 1985. Warners agreed. -While it's not a hard rule, he is going to be using the original comic as storyboards. He'll use them to set the framing for most of the movie. -The casting was not an exercise in marketing, big names avoided. -Alan Moore is not involved. He asked for his name to be taken off the project way back when it was first being developed and Snyder is honoring that... but he does hope that this will be the first film made from one of his properties that Moore will eventually think "wasn't fucked up too badly." -Release date is 03-06-09. -David Gibbons has gotten behind the movie and has frequently given his thoughts on the script and art. |

I don't know much about Watchmen, all I know is it’s about a bunch of superheroes and one of them gets killed so then there’s an investigation by the other superheroes.
I’m not going to do loads of reading into it, as with guys like KK, they know so much about story, no matter what the film makers do, you’re always going to be a little disappointed with the outcome. I went into V for Vendetta only knowing that Hugo Weaving was a good guy terrorist and the Wacked out brothers were involved, that was enough to gain my interest, I didn’t know there was such a detailed story to go along with the idea and I loved it, I think it’s better if I do the same with watchmen |

I walked out of Batman begins with a 3' (Roughly one meter) erection. It IS possible to please the fans, and it's even likely if you know how to do it. Most people, unfortunately, slap the name on the movie and that's that. So people like KK who know about the story may not be disappointed. If you see a fat yank with sunglasses walking around with a 4' erection, you know what happened. |

It's rumored that Gerad Butler will be the Sailor in the Black Freighter and it will be made seperate from the film....DVD extra or maybe a short before the movie, maybe it's own movie....who knows.
Btw here is a cast list for those who don't know. http://www.empireonline.com/features....asp?NID=21451 |
