Dolph Ziggler is not the next HBK
Why do so many neckbeards still continue to say Ziggler is the next HBK? I get it, he is smaller, looks good to females, and can wrestle. Other than that the comparison ends. I am tired of reading this bullshit. If Ziggler was so good he wouldn't be a curtain jerker at this stage of his career. Dude is in his 30s, HBK was the guy in his mid twenties. I seriously cringe whenever I hear the HBK comparison, one is one of the best ever, the other has the most rediculous name ever. End rant.

Who is still making those comparisons? The closest I have heard is when he wore some tights that looked like HBK's at Battleground or some semi-recent PPV.

Yeah, I think he might be one of the ones suspended for drugs this week too. The REAL next HBK.

Elvis sure did steal a lot of music from black people, don't you think, Black Widow?

Ziggler is really good, they've just pissed the bed with him too much. I'm looking forward to his heel turn.

Stylistically you have to see the comparisons though. Even if it's conceded that it's only aesthetically. But the similarities do go deeper. Not just to them both using the Superkick either. There's the emphasis on their selling and bumping, and Dolph is one of the best workers they've had in a long time. I trust the opinions of guys with trained eyes for this sort of thing, like Jim Cornette, Kevin Sullivan, Jim Ross and the Kliq themselves.
The only thing that's not really emulated is the success. But even so, you can't call Dolph's career a failure. |

Ziggler could have been the next HBK, but that ship has sailed because WWE refused to push him during his prime and put countless roadblocks in his way to stifle him. Doesn't help that he's also very vocal and probably pisses a lot of people off because of it too. Either way I honestly hate those sort of comparisons anymore anyway. Why can't a guy just be the first [insert name here] rather than being the next [insert legend here]?

Related to this, I'm pretty sure morphing his "I am perfection" gimmick into "the show-off" was to snuff out comparisons to being the next Mr. Perfect. Not sure who wanted to snuff those out, though.

Kind of like how KISS fans will swear by them but their music is really nothing standout not even a little bit. Elvis just ripped off music from black people and given the time period he didn't do it better he just had a certain look that appealed to a certain majority Eminem straight up addresses this in one of his songs can't remember the name tho. Kiss was just as much about the gimmick as the music but once they chucked the make-up they just because another hair metal band in the 80's.

Well not really because every other 80s band wouldn't have the "Aw they used to be good" stigma.

If I had to guess, I'd say he's not enough of an asshole to keep himself consistently the center of attention. The "it" factor and the "asshole" factor seem to have a strong correlation (if they aren't the same thing).

Dolph isn't really anything special, he lacks the IT factor that a lot of guys have who make it big. He also tends to rush matches and they come off very "samsey". He rarely changes things up and is stale.
I don't think people bought him as a contender after how he has been booked recently. Some people wanted to, because of the buildup in the few weeks before the match...but he was never a contender and the way the match was booked has killed off any chance of him becoming one soon. |

I think there could still be some legs for a high profile Ziggler heel run. With his kayfabe (and I guess real too) frustrations, the turn really seems like the next logical progression. He's been a face now for...what? The last four years or so? I remember wishing he would stay heel when he turned, as I feel his heel work is much better. It's how get got over, after all.

How is he even a face? Why should I be cheering a guy who is constantly telling me that he's going to steal my girlfriend, all while dressing himself like a douchebag? Turn him already.

Used to like him a lot. Now I realize he was trying to be Mr. Perfect, and now he's trying to be HBK...not going to work, he's going to have to be a new persona. Just trying to "be like" dudes, not going to get over.

I think the frustrated heel turn route is the best way to go, and could actually finally establish him as a top guy if executed right.

Does Dolph Ziggler need an aesthetic makeover? I wouldn't be opposed to that hair being cut-off and "The Sound of Silence" playing at the end of his backstage interviews.

He cuts off the hair, calls himself "Nick Nemeth," says that he's not going to be the Colonel anymore, because he came here because he liked wrestling. He calls out Bryan and looks into his eyes and says that Bryan is a liar. He's not a liar because he said he'd come back and he didn't, he's a liar because he says he's all about wrestling, but still puts a glass ceiling over wrestlers heads. He expected this from Shane because he's a McMahon, but he guesses that as long as Bryan had his little WrestleMania moment that the machine got behind, he's fine. He's married to a Total Diva, he's got his own reality television show, everything worked out for "Daniel Bryan" didn't it?

He did, but it was the wrong time for that look. If Stone Cold had been bald for The Hollywood Blondes it may not have worked either.

Ziggler is now a 36 year old man. Even his current in-ring persona is 8 years old, but they've reconciled that with his run in The Spirit Squad, giving him an extra couple of years. To see him sticking to the cocky, hip-swiveling, obnoxious haired, "Show Off" persona after that long is getting long in the tooth.
When he comes out and turns heel, it will be "good," but is he just going to be a frowny Dolph Ziggler? A wrestler's image can be a part of their brand, and Dolph really needs to think about when he jumps from the ship he's on, because he's starting to feel antiquated, even with all the talent in the world. |
