Last Godzilla seems to be a love it or hate it type of film, which is usually the case with slow burns. I fucking loved it. Skull Island wasnt as good imo, but I still enjoyed it.

I loved the slow burn for Godzilla. Kong was surprisingly good. It's not great or anything. But for what it is, it's good.

I thought Skull Island was a better film than Godzilla, plus it was a lot more fun. Godzilla was fairly dark and depressing. I didn't rate the opposing kaiju's either.

Seanny is right about the tone. Kong was much more fun. But I still loved Godzilla all the same.

I don't mind slow burns, but Godzilla felt like it just never quite settled on what type of movie it was going to be. Dunno how to explain that better.

Gamera is an entirely different franchise but if I had to guess Mothra and Godzilla are the good guys Rodan and Ghidorah are the bad guys

I feel the same about this as I feel about the current Planet of the Apes franchise: I'm not super amped about it, but it still looks like it's worth a watch. Then again, I'm a guy who is down for rubber suited purity. Godzilla just ain't Godzilla unless he's wrecking HO scale shop. |

I wasn't excited about any of the Planet Of The Apes movies but they were all excellent, particularly the third. I keep meaning to do an Ape-matinee.

To be fair, I wasn't a superfan of the originals, either. But I like that the new one is more about how it came to be, and essentially is a full series of well-conceptualized prequels. They're flicks with their own story to tell and they aren't trying to make it hot new constant reboots or shoehorn in Go-Bots and Wheeled Warriors for some shared cinematic universe.

What's with the wtf smiley? We're clearly in agreement.
The franchise started strong, was never over marketed or hyped and every film has been better than the last. The second was great but the third is monumental. Woody Harrelson took the whole thing up a notch, he's in that glorious late-stage maturation of his craft where his 90's output almost seems like a dream within a dream and for the last while almost every role he takes adds something wonderful to the product. I'm actually pretty sure Woody Harrelson will win an Oscar someday. I think he should have had one for 3 Billboards but I waited so long for Sam Rockwell to win one I daren't complain when he finally does. |

Or was the WTF aimed at the Dennis Rodan crack?
If it was don't worry. A bad Dennis Rodman joke is easy to rebound from... |

King Ghidorah however is evil and LOVING it. Also with mothra's new design I can officially welcomed her to the fight I've always kind of felt like she was useless ( in a certain sense) but now that she's got her refined look I'm looking forward to seeing her throw down |

Woody has found a second gear. Loved him in No County for Old Men. He was stellar in the last Apes film as well. |

Curiosity and self consciousness are not related.
A question was the right way to go. |

Bought that digital score on Google play. OMFG I love it. If the movie is as good as the score this'll be a classic.

Metacritic has the reviews in the 40% range and Rotten Tomatoes has it's recommend rate at 52%. So about average it seems. My guess is it's the opposite of the first one, which may or may not sit well with you depending on how you felt for the first one.

Loved the 2014 one. Watched it the other day and though I'd change some things, overall I still thought it was strong.
Already got my tickets reserved via AMC app for Friday at 4pm California time. I'm excited for it nonetheless. |

I really loved the slow burn of 2014.
That said if you’re going to have a movie with a bunch of monsters then slow burn isn’t really the way to go. So I’m fine with this one being faster paced and more action packed. |

As am I. Its a natural progression really. Also, given the director, and the complaints of the first from a lot of the fan base, it was easy to guess they were gonna go all out.
I think the way Kong was handled was perfect. We got a lot of him, but it wasn't overkill. We'll see how they handle the crossover film. |
