Whedon killed it, man. Just killed it. Absolutely the right choice for this movie.
It started off a little slow, which is necessary when you have to establish so much. The interplay between the personalities of the characters is fantastic. Hawkeye ended up getting the short end of the stick in terms of...well, pretty much everything. Which is unfortunate, but expected. He's stuck in an ensemble flick, and he doesn't have the benefit of having a whole movie to build him up like all the others. I really wish they'd given him some kind of mask or helmet, even a set of special sunglasses or something. Makes him less boring and gives more credibility to his incredible aim. Everyone else was pretty awesome, except Maria Hill, and only because she's given pretty much nothing to do except report stuff to Fury. Mark Ruffalo narrowly edges out RDJ for MVP. Downey is possibly better as Stark here than he was in Iron Man 1, and definitely better that Iron Man 2. But Ruffalo did the impossible. He made me give a shit about the Hulk. After so many portrayals of Banner as a brooding, woe-is-me genius, it was great to see him portrayed as more in control, and to an extent, at peace with himself. When they make the next Hulk movie with him, I'll be first in line. Onto some more spoilery stuff: SPOILER: show In closing, fucking see it. Pissed that we'll probably have to wait 4 more years for another one. Last edited by Blitz; 05-04-2012 at 04:07 AM. |

Grabbed a ticket to the 1:00 2D show at my theater tomorrow. Hopefully the sun will come out in time so all the kiddies will stay home and play outside.

Just got back from my screening. So glad to see this in 3D, and Scarlett Johansson's ass is a piece of wonder.

I see.
Because of the 'important' credits scene, I imagine Thor's sequel will be significant. The 'funny' credits scene would have been a good time for Thor to do an old gag from his movie. Seriously ScarJo's ass was not prominently shown off. Did I miss something? She's gorgeous, though. |

I saw it in iMax 3D, and there were clearly a few shots of her designed to take advantage of every dimension.

This was my first 3D movie (in IMAX no less). Other than having worn my glasses instead of my contacts which sucked, I was pretty amazed at the quality of the 3D. I'll say I look at it as less of a gimmick now and that it definitely sucked me in at times where I forgot for a second or two that I was even watching a movie. I was impressed to say the least.

Fuck 3D.
Gonna see it again today with Khuntry and some others. Gonna be a good day. Now I can focus on dialogue as is often the case with double dipping a movie. |

Who knew that putting a comic book movie in the hands of a director that loves and cherishes comic books would be a good idea???

I was kind of skeptical going into this mainly because I thought it would only appeal to huge comic book fans while ostracizing those looking for a well structured movie. I also didn't overly like any of these superheroes individual films, but I do have a certain nostalgic affection for the characters. That being said I actually really liked this. Whedon is a much better director than Favreau, Johnston, Brannagh and Leterrier. The humour was really good, and they balanced the indiividual character arcs, group arc and overall narrative. The action was actually enjoyable too, really liked the Rio Bravo scene on the big airplane, and there was a wonderful shot where it kinda tracked all the Avengers during the big Manhattan scene. I liked that Harry Dean Stanton had a small role as the janitor dude who found Ruffalo.
Most summer blockbusters are so ineffective and it was nice to take a break from some experimental Taiwanese/Romanian film or whatever the fuck I normally watch and let my inner child come out. |

Not to beat a dead horse, but this movie was fucking amazing.
I don't read comics, I'm not a huge fan of superhero movies, and I've only seen parts of Iron Man (I haven't seen Thor, the Hulk movie, or Captain America.) Still, this movie was insanely fun, and brilliantly well done. And yes, the Hulk/Loki seen is pure gold. |

Going again this thursday to see it in 3-d.
The whole movie just flows together so well. Nothing feels like it drags at all. The chemistry between all these characters is amazing, and it's straight from the books. Wish Whedon would do more comic book movies. Think I saw the scene where the camera pans around the team back to back about 50 times before I saw the film, and yet it is no less amazing when it's time comes. Hawkeye and Widow held their own, just like I thought they would. Hawkeye especially was a total badass. Loki was fantastic. I like how towards the end there was that one scene, where you thought Thor was finally going to get through to him in that cliched sort of way, only for loki to heel it up even more. Skrulls were pretty good. I could see them returning in a later film, with their more traditional shape changing infiltration technique, in a sort of secret invasion adaptation, since the direct approach failed. Or maybe they'll even do the kree skrull war. Given the next apparent villain, they'll already be doing cosmic stuff. SPOILER: show Some minor gripes Caps suit looked a little better in motion, but it still looked a bit goofy next to everyone else's costumes. His ww2 duds do look a bit dated, but I feel like they could have done a bit better with the update. Loki's alliance with the skrulls and Thors return to earth are poorly explained, but that's forgivable, as the movie is already almost 2 and a half hours long. Probably would have had to cut some other more important stuff. Did they ever actually say "assemble" at all in the movie? Seems odd that they wouldn't. Maybe I just missed it. Overall, this is my new favorite superhero movie. My new favorite action movie. My new favorite movie, period. |

I'm waiting to see this my great friend/ex-gf... probably sometime in the next week. It looks good but at same time hoping it won't be too cheesy. I just hope it's as good as the hype says it is, Iron Man 1 was very good (for a Marvel movie) but the sequel and all the others (Hulk, Thor and Cap) were either mediocre or pretty good- but not really "great".

Random Notes/Trivia/Thoughts:
- Thor's look covered his three major costumes; sleeveless/cape = Kirby, sleeveless/no cape = Ultimate, full armor = JMS. - Aside from the Bifrost, we now know that the Cube and certain dark magic can also transport you across the realms. - After the events of IM2, it seems Stark does not trust Natasha or SHIELD in general. - After acquiring Hawkeye, Loki did some scouting - already knowing about Cap, Hulk, and Black Widow. He really should have been primed about Stark's arc reactor heart, though. - All of the hero vs hero fights ended in some sort of draw, except for Widow vs Hawkeye. - Cap could hang with Loki, who in turn has fought Thor, who has shown to hold his own against Hulk. One could conclude that Cap could potentially survive a fight against Hulk if they were ever to tango. - How would James Rhodes/War Machine feel meeting Captain America? And has Rhody ever been approached by SHIELD, being not only a superhero but a soldier himself? Hmm... - Nobody said, "Avengers Assemble!" Or I may have missed it. Would have been perfect before the iconic sweeping shot. - With Thanos revealed, I think Thor 2 will be the most significant of the 'fallout' period. His movie deals with the cosmic areas of the Marvel U., and the famous Infinity Gauntlet was last seen in Thor. It seems things don't stay in Odin's Vault for long. - They finally make it clear that Natasha is from Russia, which should make a possible appearance by Winter Soldier in Cap 2 more interesting. |

Tell me why the Hulk went all bat shit crazy on the plane but totally had control over Hulk 20 minutes later? That's my only complaint. Otherwise it was a perfect movie.

I think it was stark who talked to him and told him he could probably control it better if he tried. And then that old security gaurd said that hulk aimed for the abandoned building when he fell, and banner seemed to have an epiphany.
It's probably one of those things that they wanted to delve into more, but was cut for time. Judgement call, and like I said, the movie is so fucking good as it is, that I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that they cut the right scenes. |

it was a bit of a hole for me that was rather glaring but just wow...everything else was so top notch it's worth the hype for a change.
