Too bad they didn't bring ECW back the way they should have. Jeff would have fit in great

It's hard to believe they're just now getting to the propped up ladder. They got a lot out of the folded ladder

So I've heard RVD talk about the hardcore title and these matches. He says that it was his favorite stuff of his in WWE, and he wanted to stay in the hardcore title division and elevate that title as a legitimate midcard title. With guys like him, Jeff Hardy, Raven and others contending.
He felt it could be a legitimate division on par with the IC title, but consisting only of no dq or extreme gimmick matches. It'd basically serve as the continuation of ECW, only as a division within WWF rather than a whole promotion. I really wish he got his way. |

Could have broken Jeff's legs with that fall.

Oh man, that swinging rope spot was a damn good try. That would have been epic.

On the one hand it would have been good, but on the other hand it would have been good for only so long.

Well they could have gotten at least a year or two out of it, which would have been better than nothing considering all of the talent they had that could have been used or even elevated by it.

I have a pick. Anyone up for it, or was someone else looking to go?

I think one of the best Hardcore Title runs was Taker's and he didn't even do that much "hardcore" stuff.

ECW Heatwave 98, Hayabusa/Shinzaki v. RVD/Sabu. Plus we just saw RVD so no deal.

Same event as Juan's pick. This is a medium length match, but a great one. It's an opener, and pretty much a perfect one at that.

Yea, it was retarded. They should have been a reluctant team, not the fuckin mighty ducks.
One of the many bad things. This event is one of the highpoints of the invasion though. Just from start to finish, the standalone event (ignoring the storylines and angles), is great. Some awesome matches. |

Compare Edge today to his first day on the job. They didn't know what the fuck they were doing. The random yelling. The running. The smiling. He's lucky it was a boom period or he was future endeavors-guaranteed. Plus he almost killed a guy.

He had "it" though. I liked Edge from day one. I remember thinking he was great as far back as when he was Sable's mystery partner against Marc Mero and Jackie. From the get go the crowd seemed to care about him, and I remember wanting him to go far right out of the gates.
They definitely didn't know what the fuck they were doing for a long time though. The boom period helped too, but I think he had a natural connection with the fans. Thankfull The Brood kept him and Christian employed until the ladder match got them way over, and from then on in it was down to business. Remember the shirts? Yeah, he lucked out hooking up with the Brood. Him and Christian both. Christian even survived a puffy shirt. I guess it was outweighed by coming through fire and giving blood baths.

Pretty much exactly what you want out of an opener. Short, sweet, exciting and gets the crowd warmed up. Edge picking up the IC title is a plus too.
P.S. Remember when Edge won the IC title for 24 hours in 1999, at a house show? That was random. |

That would be Dibiase's decision, since he owned him and his soul. He must have liked the music.

I was THERE for the team of Shinzaki/Hayabusa v. Sabu/RVD featuring the Man in Pink in ECW. So was WWKD.
