A couple years ago Ryan Clady recovered from a partial ACL/MCL tear (while playing basketball, of course) and was ready for week 1, though he hasn't exactly been the same since.

Last year Demaryius Thomas tore his ACL in March/April and was good to go by week 1, though he did get an extra month to heal after breaking his pinky in the week before the opener. He also didn't fully regain his speed until the last few games of the season.

Charles Johnson of the Panthers (that's Charles Johnson of the Panthers) was the highest paid player in the league last year earning THIRTY FOUR MILLION dollars (he has $32m guaranteed in his contract) in the first year of a six year, $72m contract. Holy front loaded Batman. "Pretty lol" if his playing level slips and he winds up getting cut in a few years, hope he's the kind of player that's wants to "be the best" as opposed to "make some money playing football"

I think it could get even shittier for Vilma. I wouldn't be surprised if they made him restructure for less money again or cut him outright. Lofton is the younger, more productive player at the position and I don't see them paying both of those guys 7.1 million in 2013. Especially if someone else at linebacker steps up their production this season.

Vikings stadium situation potentially could get a bit uglier now since the state government could potentially approve a new stadium deal which adds in an extra $105 million the Vikings have to pay in order for their fees and taxes to be reduced by 25-30% overall.

Vikings kept demanding no more than $175 million to go along with all the fees and taxes dropped to almost nothing from their current 35+% range.

Yeah, my brother is pissed cause he just bought a Vilma jersey least season..

I could never bring myself too, just because 51 should be retired for Sam Mills (who I already have the 1987 jersey)..

Speaking of jerseys, I was working at Marshalls in the summer Vick got prison time for dog fighting. We had to pull all of his jerseys and destroy them. Literally slice holes in them and put them in the trash compactor. It was surreal because that jersey was so popular and we had people rushing in to buy them.

NFL Players Live Longer According to the CDC

Quote:
A records-based study of retired players conducted by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) concludes that they have a much lower death rate than men in the general population, contrasting the notion that football players don't live as long.
The findings, emailed Tuesday to about 3,200 former players who retired before 1993, came less than a week after former linebacker Junior Seau's suicide death at 43, and renewed concerns for the long-term health of players.
"That's surprising to me because of the blows we took when we played," said former Oakland Raiders defensive back George Atkinson, 65. "You'd think football players didn't live as long as the average person."
Hall of Fame guard Joe DeLamielleure, 61, said he's not convinced. "I think it's bogus. Just think of the guys who have died before they got into their 60s or 70s. Don't tell me we live longer. I don't believe it."
Of the 3,439 former players in the study, 334 were deceased. Based on estimates from the general population, NIOSH anticipated 625 deaths. The results, completed this year, came from further research after a study requested by the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) was completed in 1994.
Yet the results also revealed that nearly 38% of deaths from the pool of retirees — who played at least five seasons between 1959 and 1988 — were linked to heart disease.
Even so, NIOSH concluded in the study that the risk of dying of heart disease for the retirees as an overall group is lower than that for the general population.
Joe Browne, senior advisor to the NFL commissioner, hailed the study as important for debunking a myth. "During the 1990s, the players union was spreading misinformation among its rank and file about the shortened average life expectancy of professional football players, largely because of heart-related issues," Browne said.
Officials from the NFLPA and NIOSH were unavailable for comment.
The summary of the NIOSH study was part of a monthly update regarding various issues for retired players. The NIOSH study also found:
• Defensive lineman had a 42% higher risk of death from heart disease when compared to men in the general population.
• Players with a Body Mass Index of 30 or more during their playing careers had twice the risk of death from heart disease compared to other players, confirming traditional concerns about the effects of obesity.
"That makes sense," Atkinson said. "You're heart can only carry so much and support so much. Some of guys during the time I played got up as high as 300 plus pounds, and that's got to weight heavy on the heart as well as the other organs."
• African-American players had a 69% higher risk of dying from heart disease than Caucasian players. NIOSH stated that it is unsure of what caused the difference, but noted that in general African-Americans have been found to have a higher risk of heart disease.
While heart disease and cancer ranked as the two leading causes of death among the former players, as was the case among U.S. males in 2010, the NIOSH summary sent to the retirees did not account for the causes of the other 36.1% of the player deaths.
NIOSH also stated that it is studying neurodegenerative causes of death among NFL players, which could be revealing in light of increased attention on concussions and head injuries — and dozens of lawsuits against the NFL from more than 1,500 former players.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Alzheimer's accounted for 3.3% and Parkinson's was determined as the cause in 4.6% of deaths in 2010, when the average male life expectancy was 76.2 years.
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/footb...ger/54847564/1

Really want to hear players like Hugh Douglas who say their life expectancy has been cut short respond to this. It's one thing to say the NFL is biased, but the government... I dunno.

All 4 players are appealing the suspensions being lead by Vilma.. Brees said that during that NFLPA meeting last week they outright asked for concrete proof from Gooddell and he refused..

NFLPA president: “Punishment demands evidence”

Posted by Mike Florio on May 9, 2012, 2:13 PM EDT

The NFL continues to decline to provide hard, direct evidence of the bounty allegations that fueled the suspensions of four players. The NFLPA continues to call for such evidence.

“Punishment demands evidence,” NFLPA president Domonique Foxworth writes in an item for USA Today. Foxworth reiterates that the league has yet to provide “specific, detailed evidence of player involvement in a pay-to-injure program.”

As we understand it, the NFL has provided only the March 2 report of NFL Security, the March 21 announcement of penalties against the Saints and various non-players, and a 20-slide Power Point presentation that was shown but not given to NFLPA representatives at a meeting in New York.

“Instead of transparent and fair due process for the four suspended players, the NFL chose news media leaks, character assassinations, PR campaigns and legal manipulation to mislead the public,” Foxworth writes.

Foxworth also takes issue with the suggestion that the NFLPA is protecting wrongdoers at the expense of those who were targeted.

“Over the years, it has been the players who’ve fought the league to make changes to the prevailing attitudes about health and safety in football,” Foxworth writes. “We led the change in the way concussions are addressed; successfully opposed 18-game seasons; demanded a change in the NFL’s leadership on brain trauma research and prevention; created new benefits for cognitive injury; shortened and limited contact in practices; created a better injury protection benefit and a $100 million health and safety research fund. We continue to fight the NFL in 500 workers compensation cases.”

In this specific case, the NFLPA has every right to demand the raw evidence on which the league’s conclusions have been based. To this day, no evidence has been produced to demonstrate that a player received money for inflicting injury or paid money to induce another player to do so.

If that evidence exists, let’s see it. With each passing day that the evidence isn’t disclosed, suspicions will grow that the evidence just doesn’t exist.

Baring a sudden veto from the govenor, the Vikings are staying in Minnesota as the stadium bill passed the state congress vote and the team agreed on the terms.

The Vikings will now pay almost half of the bill which ends up being $50 million more than their max request while the state will increase gambling revenues to help pay for the costs. The NFL is also expected to get involved to help cover some of the Vikings costs.

Quote:
The Vikings intend to take advantage of an NFL loan program, sell naming rights and possibly impose seat license fees to help cover the team's end of construction costs.

Under the bill, the Vikings would sign a 30-year lease on a stadium to be built on the site of the Metrodome in Minneapolis. The team would pay about $13 million annually in operating fees, though a public authority gets the power to rent out the building on non-game days for concerts, conventions and special events. The Wilfs would get exclusive rights to recruit a professional soccer team to Minnesota.

The bill gives the Vikings the option to upgrade to a retractable roof, but at their expense. Bagley said the Vikings haven't decided if they'll make that enhancement.

Vince Young - 1 year 2 million.

At worst, the Bills got the mobile QB to backup Fitz they needed. GOOD BYE TYLER THIGPEN.

At Best, Gailey - a QB Guru who coached Kordell Stewart through all of his good years, can work Vince Young into a pro bowler again, and the Bills make the playoffs.
