Last Decent Royal Rumble ?
As always when it comes to the month of January I find myself watching old royal rumble matches and for the life of me can't remember when he had a " decent winner" take it out.
When was the last decent rumble winner and why ? |

If you're talking about the rumble itself, I'd say 2007. The flow of the match to my recollection was pretty good and the ending of it worked well.
The next closest "recent" one I'd say is 2010. For a shits & giggles rumble, I still like to watch 2014... but just for the crowd shitting over the Rey entry, Punk's elimination and the final two of 'tista & Roman. |

I won money the year before, but hell. I can't remember a good one for the whole time I've been watching annually. So, at least 5 years have past.

I've been going through all the old rumbles on the award winning WWE Network. Only got up to '98 so far.
I liked 97 a lot. Will update more recent next week. Although I will say I did enjoy the story of last year's rumble. |

My main problem with last year was that Roman walked out, under his own power, like a punk.
And Triple H showed up looking like a conquering hero, instead of like a scoundrel. I still say he should have been entrant number 31. |

Used to be right up there for me, but then Benoit happened 3 1/2 or so years later. I think 2005 was fun despite the supposedly botched ending which prompted Vince himself to storm the ring and bust both quads whilst trying to enter. Batista eliminated Cena to win, and both men got big WM moments @ WM 21.
I also thought 2006 was really fun despite the fact that Rey won. I don't care who you are, lasting over an hour in a Rumble match, let alone winning is fucking impressive as shit. |

Not sure why but I really liked the 09 Rumble for a period. I think the last "Classic" Rumble match was 2007 with the great Taker/Shawn ending. Personal favorite despite what happened a few years later is 2004.

2011 Royal Rumble was fucking brilliant from start to finish. Plenty of storytelling and everyone was more-or-less booked perfectly. The Nexus vs. Corre... Nexus's dominance... Cena teaming with Hornswoggle was fun... Booker T and Kevin Nash were awesome surprise entrants... the Santino finish... even Chavo Guerrero got a fucking pop in that match. Best Rumble match in my opinion.
Every Rumble since then, has just been people coming out, brawling, and getting thrown out. |

2011 Rumble. Undercard was decent, Rumble itself was pretty good, and a really good final two sequence/moment. Only real negative was WWE half-assing the faction warfare since that was the main reason why it got bumped to 40 guys and Cena/Hornswoggle team having their way with the Nexus.
2012's Rumble was decent overall but also started the streak where everyone hated the winner of the actual Rumble match. |

If we're strictly talking about winners, I think you have to go back quite a while. Honestly, the last time I probably gave a shit and it felt like a major deal was 2005 with Batista winning. The rise of Batista was cool as fuck.
2007 had a wonderful finish, but Undertaker didn't headline and it felt like a token win for him. 2008 was Cena's return, and while I want to pay it objective respect, I fucking hated Cena and when his music hit I *wasn't* surprised -- I groaned. 2009 would have been a lot better if Orton had beaten Triple H at Mania XXV and taken his place as the top heel. Edge was...well, it felt like Cena except without the win. ADR didn't amount to anything. Sheamus didn't amount to anything. Cena was a repeat. Bryan should have won in 2014. Bryan should have won in 2015. Last year was a good match, but Triple H didn't really need another Royal Rumble. Reigns vs. Triple H should have been a lower card match. So yeah, I'd say you have to go back to 2005. |

Been watching Rumble matches in reverse order, just watching 2011, Morrison gets one hell of a reaction!!
Right now everyone in the ring is no longer wrestle in WWE; Punk, Morrison, Bryan, DiBiase Jr, Tatsu. |

I marked out when Nash entered as Diesel, have been hoping for Scott Hall to be a surprise as Razor Ramon but i don't think wwe will make it happen.

I'd like to see that. There were no retro/Legend in last years' match. You had Styles debut and was Lesnar a surprise/unexpected entrant? You have to have some surprises in the Rumble match!

*GROAN*
We're at the height of Super Cena here in the 2011 Royal Rumble. He just wiped out the New Nexus, and now he and Hornswoggle are picking people off as they come in. Ugh. |

The final 2 of HBK and Taker was amazing and they even gave them like 3 to 5 minutes of go time. It was epic.

Define "decent." If decent means not awful and generally enjoyable, then last year was plenty decent. If you take your smark glasses off HHH winning fit perfectly into the story they were telling. The only real shit stain was Reigns willingly walking away from it and then no-selling it on his return. The one that Sheamus won was also in that category. They had their main event in Rock vs Cena, so they kind of had a more casual Rumble. The commentator spots were enjoyable, Kharma's appearance was great and Foley vs Santino was a great comedy spot. But Ricardo doing Del Rio's entrance was fucking phenomenal and shouldo guarantee him a Hall of Fucking Fame spot.
The last GREAT Rumble was the one Taker won. |

Last year's RR waa fine. The Wyatt Family made it very enjoyable. Honestly, I can't think of one I didn't enjoy. Unless you are being nit picky because someone you didn't want to win won I can't see disliking any.

This year seems pretty hype. Doesn't sound like there's a clear winner going in. If I actually watch it it'll be the first show since Mania I've watched.

Last year a good Rumble "match." Especially when you contrast it to the year before. The finish was lame duck though. And there was a lot of silly bullshit throughout. Reigns not being the runner-up got a big pop and unloaded a lot of the shit it was building to.

I resubbed to the Network because of the hype. We have legit superstars in the Rumble besides for only lime 2.
