What I Liked About Brock Lesnar
His relentless motivation, his endless training and his competitiveness.
Too many guys in the business right now are a little too laid back for my taste. The idea is that this is a sport, right? Why do people play sports professionally if not to win and try to make it to the top? I'd love to see a guy like Sheamus or Jack Swagger turn it up a notch and just become obsessed with becoming the best. They seem way too comfortable for my taste. I'm not just talking about kayfabe hunger either, I mean career-wise. Too many young guys seem willing to settle after they find a "niche". Austin had that desire. You could tell that when he cut a promo he wanted for himself what his character wanted. The man had some intensity, some amazing focus and I don't see anyone that I can point to who has that same desire. Doesn't anyone want it bad enough? It's time to make TPWW MEAT again! Quote:

Brock was one of those instances where the monster gimmick worked further than "Brock smash, Brock get over". He had legitimate talent to back up his push. So while he was out destroying people he looked awesome and when he finally transitioned to the main event (which wasn't long) he was able to more than hold his own.
I'd love to see what Brock would have been like had he gotten a Goldberg-esq push, except more emphasis on wrestling instead of 3 minute squashes. Lesnar could have survived the streak ending. On the topic at hand, you're right. I'd love for someone to come along with the intent of winning and becoming the best. Honestly, I think we're seeing that subtly with Danielson. |

Well, a feud with someone as hot as the Miz is a good way to start that. If they don't strap him with a gimmick that doesn't fit him and basically make it about how much he is dedicated to the sport I'd be amazed and pleased. Danielson could be a drug-free Benoit.

They apparently get a title shot for winning NXT (apparently not a contract now?) so I'd imagine that Danielson will choose Miz for the US title. Start him out with a title win outside of NXT and it'll get the ball rolling.

I hope Miz stays on the upper-card regardless. I could see Miz improving in the ring even more by working with Danielson.

Brock Lesnar also got fed every major character in the business, so the question is more of, would they be willing to do that again.

Yeah, WWE must have felt so "burned" after they did so much to build Lesnar up, and he just decides to leave to try to play football.

Lesnar is a perfect example of why Taker's streak cannot end to someone who is up and coming.

brock lesnar was a badass for real..... the f5 was awesome.... he did shit on wwe though, they put money and time into him to get him to be a huge star and them he shits on them and quits.... still though his time there was awesome, wish he would have stuck around.....
i hated the way hogan jobbed to him though... wasted on smackdown.. that could have been a pretty big ppv with a decent story line... and it could have been hogans last fued with a so called monster, thats hogans specialty, man vs monster.. it would've been the shit |

Kurt Angle still has that kind of intensity, I just wish he had been straight about why he was leaving the WWE. He should have taken the time off to re-group.

Brock Lesnar was a real special talent. He had the size that McMahon drools over yet he was very very talented. And his strength was unbelievable.

Though I imagine we would be sick of him just like Cena right now. Imagine the last 6 years of brock Domination. |

Because since the Big 2 left (Austin & The Rock), it just seems like the "next" huge star gets shoved down our throats. Remember when people worked their ASSES off just to be in the upper card? That's why it will be special when/if Christian wins the WWE title. That's why it was so awesome when Jeff Hardy won the title.
Sorry i just vented there. I'm just glad that Eddie G and Benoit won their titles the way they did. Those guys definitely put in the time and the work. |

Don't know if I'd be able to take Lesnar seriously if he ever came back though. With that giant wang-sword on his chest.

That match with Angle/Lesnar would have been one of my favorite matches ever if he didn't botch that bump, totally killed it for me.

Well, there wasn't much Brock could have done. I suppose he could have let Holly back down but that would have required Holly's cooperation.
He deserved it, though. Not many times will I say someone deserves a broken neck, but Holly deserved it. |

Holly asked for it. If Lesnar had set him down the boys in the back would've never respected him for it.

I loved Brock Lesnar in the WWE as much as anyone. He was vicious, had great technical skill, an incredible look, and could make a match feel truly competitive. His matches against Kurt Angle are some of the most intense I've ever seen.
That being said, I don't think he could've ever been "that guy" for the WWE. The one thing Brock Lesnar truly lacked was the kind of outgoing charisma that made the top guys the top guys. Lesnar could talk, but he couldn't talk like Hulk Hogan or Stone Cold or The Rock. He couldn't get the crowd into the palm of his hand, face or heel, the way that those men could. While Brock would've obviously been a great addition to the WWE's history, I don't know if his popularity would've ever even peaked that of John Cena's as of now. |

Loved Brock's music too. They probably would have ruined it with lyrics if he stuck around.

Does Hogan weigh 800 pounds or something? Even when Lesnar dropped him with the F-5 he seemed like dead weight.

Brock Lesnar was, in some ways, the perfect wrestler. He embodied the "sports" of "sports entertainment," anyway. Great size, but so much talent. He also did a lot of harm to the WWE when he left. I believe that Lesnar is a big reason we have so many aborted pushes. It doesn't help matters that when Bobby Lashley was the "second chance" to have a guy with Lesnar's sort of size and pedigree, he walked for MMA as well. Jack Swagger is the closest thing we have to #3.
Although he started on RAW, when you think about it, Lesnar never even got a chance to play over there. He was the guy on SmackDown!, and he really helped lend it its own identity. Matches and feuds like Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H, Brock Lesnar vs. Shawn Michaels, Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Orton never got a chance to happen. Brock Lesnar vs. Chris Benoit seemed like it was being teased as a potential WWE Title match for WrestleMania XXV, but I feel that the WWE moved Benoit over to RAW to save that match, protect Brock at WrestleMania (I'm sure the original plan was for him to go over Goldberg), and to get that Lesnar vs. Goldberg "special attraction" out of the way. If Lesnar had stuck around, I think he would have been the guy to end The Undertaker's streak. And not only that, but guys like John Cena would have had to work their way to the top a little bit harder. I mean, Cena no doubt has a tremendous work ethic, but he was really a replacement "fresh star" for Lesnar. Cena's rise would have been way more dramatic, he would have probably had a more respected mid-card career, and his character would have remained more "gritty" and generally admirable. It may have made Cena a more natural star overall. And although there is no guarantee it would have happened -- if Lesnar had stuck around, Austin had gone into the Hall of Fame and whatever, time might have altered Austin's opinion on Lesnar. This is a huge "what if," but if Lesnar became a massive star, Austin eased up over time, and he did get back into ring shape -- there might have been enough of an attraction to all parties to have a Brock Lesnar vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin match, and that would have made A LOT of money, I feel. |

Just the other day I read an interview with Lesnar where he said that he is happy right now, but seemed to be far less critical of the WWE than he has been in the past. I don't understand MMA as much as some guys on here, as far as career longetivity and such goes -- but with some of the health problems he has battled, and that sort of stuff, is it at all possible that we'll one day seen Brock Lesnar back in the WWE? Even if it is just to repair his relationship with them, get into some WWE video games, and maybe even go into the Hall of Fame?
