Malenko. Taz is a fake tough guy made up by Paul Heyman's hype machine.

ECW Taz was legit. He owned that character and was the biggest character in a promotion I really enjoyed.
Malenko never reached those heights as a personlity |

Malenko.
Damn what a match these two would have had back in the day, though. |

I really like Taz(z) the announcer. But Taz(z) the wrestler is overrated. Anything I go back and watch of his never holds up against the test of time. Malenko's work does.

Once again I prefer Malenko, but Taz was better. Taz was MEGA over in ECW, whereas Malenko was simply a "good hand"

Going with Taz. He had a "mystique" to him in his prime that Dean couldn't touch.

Still havent voted.
Taz was so over with me. He was my fav worker in the world for maybe 2 or 3 years. Malenko is my kind of worker. Works holds, tells wrestling stories. I dunno. Im leaning Taz but I think Malenkos mactches hold up better. |

Went with Malenko. Larger body of work at a higher level. That was tough.

Taz.
Neither were as successful in the WWE as they were in other places but felt Malenko was better in terms of in-ring skills while Taz was better with promos and as the overall package. Taz had one of the best ever WWE debuts while also being a great example of Heyman's wrestling philosophy of focusing more on a wrestler's strengths (Taz's tough guy look and style) than their weakness (Taz being small for a typical "beast" or top star). |

Malenko I dunno I enjoy him more as a wrestler Taz had a much much better presentation.
But Malenko holds up in ring where everything about taz feels tied to an image and a certain time period. |

I don't think anyone ever called him "Stinko Taz", so Malenko takes this one BARELY.

I'm a bit surprised Malenko easily defeated Saturn, yet may not defeat Taz.... Taz getting more love than I thought and Saturn getting much less....

Never saw Taz, only Tazz....... and what he did in WWE is not enough to put him over what Dean Malenko did.

Taz. Loved his wrestling style and he pulled off the character perfectly.
Shame what the WWE did with him, but yeah. |

Another hard choice to make, took me a while to make up my mind. Both guys were extremely entertaining in the ring, but in different ways. Both have solid careers outside of the WWE.
However, I decided to vote for Taz just because his ECW work sticks with me a lot more than Malenko's WCW work, additionally, a lot of my favorite Malenko moments are due to other stars moreso than Malenko, such as Jericho. For pure entertainment value, Taz takes it for me. Taz's ECW character is firmly planted as one of my favorite wrestling personas of all time. It's a shame the WWE didn't know what to do with him. I feel if he debuted in the WWE now rather than back in the Attitude era, he would've done a lot bigger things. |

When Taz did a podcast with Austin, they talked about how they regretted never getting to properly work together in WWF, and they wrote it off to Vince's obsession with bigger guys/thinking Taz's height would hurt his credibility if they tried to book him seriously in the WWF landscape.
I think his ECW run showed though that he could really be portrayed as a shitkicker who could choke anybody out. Threw a mean suplex too. Taz ruled. |

Also, Taz is a TPWW institution. When I first started coming here he was front and center in the banner up at the top.
One of my earliest "TPWW memories" was reading Triple A's 2001 Royal Rumble results and him going ballistic in the middle of the Rumble match when Tazz got eliminated in a matter of seconds. |

That moment when Taz is in the ring and the lights go out and Sabu appears, but Taz is just there, staring him down, arms folded is probably my biggest mark out moment in wrestling because if you watched other programs at the time, Taz would have had to have acted scared. I wish when they had a great talent that was shorter they would do that more these days. They don't always need to be the underdog. They can be an intense ass kicker. It'll never in modern day WWE, but Ciampa has the look and the skills to pull it off. |

Also taking nothing away from Malenko. Speaking of mark out moments, go watch this on the WWE Network and listen to the pop.
