On-Screen Entrances
As the match begins, the characters enter the screen with signature moves!
These fun entrances have been revived in Super Smash Bros. Brawl! Mario appears out of a pipe. It’s pretty basic. Fox dashes out of the Arwing. The condor appears! It’s the Ice Climbers. Pit comes riding in on light from the heavens. Mr. Saturn’s tea table? Lucas appears! Could that be warp magic? It’s Ike! Snake’s optical camouflage breaks up as he lands. There’s a three-second countdown before the match begins. And these are just a few of the fighters making their entrances. |

Fox’s Misfortune
The Arwing makes an emergency landing on the edge of a dense jungle.
As Diddy Kong discovers it, an evil hand reaches for him from the lake... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The 2nd update today is music from Fire Emblem but I can't post it here. It has lyrics in latin which translate to: Fire Emblem, companions walk
The endless path together. In the wavering shadow of spite, Our home is faced by the oncoming spear, Engulfed in flames. I keep that unforgettable day in my heart And now rise up together with my companions. Fire Emblem, our bond shall be never broken. We hold fast to protect tomorrow And the one who awaits our return. Fire Emblem, light gathers on the flag we unfurl. Fire Emblem, we gaze upon the multitude of stars, Gripping our blades. If we do not bring light to the darkness in these lands, The shooting stars will soar over a wasteland. Fire Emblem, on whom does the morning sun shine As she climbs over the edge of battle? Items from Previous Installments
A number of items from past Smash games appear in this one as well. But, of course, there are naturally many people who have never played any of those games. And even if you have, I still think I ought to explain these.
It’s not all of them, but I would like to introduce a few. Beam Sword It’s a blade of light – the Beam Sword. This time it gets REALLY long! Fire Flower Hold down the button to release a fire burst! Freezie Throw it at someone to freeze them. Home-Run Bat Do a side-smash to hit a home run! This time, everyone has a different stance. Party Ball Items pour out from inside. Super Mushroom When you get the mushroom... ...you become gigantic! These are just some of the items that intensify the slapstick nature of this game. You must master them all! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I wonder what the clock thing in the 7th screenshot is. |

Gray Fox
If Snake is going to be joining the brawl, then it should be OK to have someone else from the Metal Gear world join as an Assist Trophy, right? Frank Jaeger, the Gray Fox, appears! Oh! Cool mono-eye! He approaches stealthily with lithe jumps, coming right in then slicing repeatedly. Awww! It makes you want to use him as a playable character. He slices over and over with his back-handed grip. By the way, he reflects projectiles. PA-SHEEN! Gray Fox faces off with Snake. Gray Fox, who fought in a grand battle to the death with Metal Gear REX... To think that he would reappear on Wii, and alongside Mario and Sonic at that! You never know what might happen in this world. |

Grab and Throw
Surely you’ve learned how to shield to protect yourself. Have you learned that yet? Good. You’ve learned.
Then next up is grabbing. And throwing! Press the attack button while shielding... And grab at your opponent! If you press the attack button while shielding, you’ll grab. Give it a try next time you’re shielding. Block your enemy’s attack with your shield! Then just press the attack button to grab your enemy! Tilt the Control Stick in any direction you like to throw! Then pursue with combo attacks! And so on. Grabs are also effective against enemies that are protecting themselves with their own shields. Shield against attacks, then grab. Or dodge. If you can understand this flow, you’ll find they add a dimension that changes the simple charging attack. At any rate, get in the habit of shielding when you’re in trouble. Then you can think about what comes next. |

Lucas: Special Moves
There’s a character named Ness who has appeared in the Smash Bros. series up until now, and Lucas is very similar. They are from the same family of PK users.
But Lucas’s physical combat style is quite different. By which I mean he doesn’t have the same standard moves. His strong up attack is a mentally-powered flip kick. The finish of his back air attack is a meteor smash. Oh! Is he grabbing the edge with his rope snake?! Side Special Move: PK Fire This is also quite different from Ness’s. It flies perfectly sideways, even in the air. The flame pillar explodes! Standard Special Move: PK Freeze If you charge it up and control it... ...you can freeze your opponents! And even more threatening is his PK Thunder. For those of you unfamiliar with the last game, or the one before that, remember this well. Up Special Move: PK Thunder You guide the PK Thunder with the Control Stick... ...and hit yourself with it to launch! Doing this helps you recover. The angle you launch at depends upon the position at which the PK Thunder hits you. This launch also makes for a rather powerful attack, so I think it’s fine to even try it unexpectedly. Down Special Move: PSI Magnet This move absorbs the energy of projectile and other attacks and uses it to recover Lucas’s damage. It has a wide range of effectiveness, so give it a try when you get the chance. If an enemy uses a projectile, that’s your chance. |

Maybe it's been taken out of context. Maybe "Until now" includes Brawl.
I'm not fussed if Ness is cut but what would be worse? Ness being out completely or Ness being downgraded to an Assist Trophy? Last edited by Drakul; 11-08-2007 at 12:16 PM. |

Or Ness and this guy playing like Mario and Luigi. Luigi basically has all of Mario's moves just his own twist on 'em.
So I'm not too worried. |

Norfair
Norfair is the location in Metroid where the enemy boss Ridley was. There was a lot of lava, and it seemed like a rather hot area.
Whoa! That looks hot. As you can imagine, the lava level will indeed rise and cover the platforms. It’s dangerous to touch it. That dangerous-to-the-touch lava comes flowing from a number of places, so be careful. Hot! Hot-hot-hot-hot-hot-HOT! EEEEEEEEEEK! It’s a lava wave! The tension rises. Yes. When the lava wave appears, a single safe area will also appear. If you can get in, you’ll be OK...but surely there will be quite a battle for that spot. Yet another bit of back and forth. "Let me in!" "I’m not letting YOU in!" It even has hatches that close in emergencies. Ahh. You can just about dodge the massive lava wave with a great jump, but it’s a little difficult. Besides, you KNOW you want to win the battle for that safe area. |

Ike: Final Smash
Great Aether It’s Ike’s Final Smash, Great Aether. As the name suggests, it’s a more powerful version of Aether. First things first: get the Smash Ball! Do a standard special move to swing your blazing sword! Great! AETHER! Then he just plummets. At the moment of impact, your foes are launched! That feels gooood... It’s exciting and exhilarating. But, you do have to make sure you hit with the Final Smash. Its range of impact is pretty large, so you just have to get the right timing. Maybe you could add to their woes. Could this be a plan? |

Ike is from Fire Emblem and his introduction update is on page 4 of the thread.
It's no problem with the updates, like I said, I'm reading them anyway and not much happens at 7am (thats when I get the update), so I may as well put them up here. |

Three Different Taunts
If you want to show your opponent a little flair, you can do moves unrelated to battle – it’s called taunting. You do it with the +Control Pad, except when using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk.
This time, you can do one of three different taunts, depending on the direction you press the +Control Pad! Up taunt: He twirls his sword twice and sheaths it. Side taunt: Oh. A fairy. Down taunt: Is this his mysterious pose from the Nintendo 64 version?! There are a variety of patterns for you to enjoy. He takes off his hat and spins around whimsically. She curls herself in some sort of new stretch. He gives a shout on the spot. He gives a three-fingered "W" salute. He thrusts his sword in the ground and crosses his arms. He spins his feet and says "Too slow..." ... With Wii Remote + Nunchuk control, taunts are handled with the 1 Button (up taunt), the 2 Button (down taunt) and the 1 and 2 Buttons simultaneously (side taunt). Oh, and a short message can be assigned to each taunt direction. |

Handicap
Be kind to beginners! If all you do in brawls is beat up people who don’t know left from right, they’ll never understand the rules of the game, right?
So until now, I’ve always made sure to include handicaps in each game in the series. But, I began to think that there isn’t much thrill in just making yourself weaker, so I changed the system. First, find the Handicap option on the Rules screen. Then you’ll see something new. Click-click-click! Ratchet up the handicap. You start with your initial damage meter boosted! Even when you reappear. The strength of each character doesn’t change, so then you can show your skills to your opponent! Also, you can use this not only for handicapping, but also for starting all players at the same damage – it’ll give you matches with a slightly different feel. Now, I’ve also kept the auto-handicap feature. This gradually increases the starting damage for the winner of the match. Choose the Auto setting from the same option. |

Meta Knight: Special Moves
I introduced some of Meta Knight’s special moves in a previous post entitled "Four Special Move Types".
But, since he has so many peculiar moves, I wanted to explain them again. Standard Special Move: Mach Tornado Suck them up! Your inertia carries you left and right. Tap the button to rise up off the ground a bit. Side Special Move: Drill Rush Rush!!! You spin like a drill, ploughing into people. You can also change your direction slightly. Push your enemies up into the air! Of course, you can push them down, too. Up Special Move: Shuttle Loop Rise up while launching your sword up... You can also flutter through the air and glide. This is a move you use to glide. It’s kind of like Kirby’s wing ability. Down Special Move: Dimensional Cape That familiar move from the trailer. He wraps himself in his cape, disappears, and reappears with this move. Tilt the stick to move the position where he’ll reappear! If you’re pressing the attack button, you’ll unleash a surprise attack as you reappear! Use the Dimensional Cape as a precursor to an attack. If you just can’t get the opportunity, then forget about attacking. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- The 2nd update today is the music "Kirby: Meta Knight’s Revenge". It's for the Halberd stage. The update explains it: I was just thinking how it’s been more than ten years since I made this game... It was in Kirby Super Star that Meta Knight rode out on the Battleship Halberd to try and conquer Dream Land. This is a jazz arrangement of the music from back then. WELL? How do you like it?! After going with the "serious touch" of the Halberd for the Kirby stage, I’m now thinking that maybe this overly peppy song is a little incongruous... |

Spectator
Even among Smash players, there are some people who just aren’t that good at action games. With that in mind, I’ve been thinking about how I can convey the fun of Smash to newcomers. I’ve been thinking about this type of thing since long before I joined this industry.
So, for this game, I’ve prepared a new kind of mode. It’s called Spectator, and you’ll find it in the With Anyone menu. If I had to describe it in a word, it would be "watching"! You can enjoy watching matches between other people! This mode is a service where Nintendo uses Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to send the data for games played between other people to every Smash household. Match selection is handled automatically, and absolutely no names of any players can be seen. It feels like there’s a continuous broadcast of matches on your television! Even if you don’t play, you can enjoy the battles of other characters! And at the beginning of each match, you can even bet coins on the character you think will win. I’ll bet some coins. I’ve got a winner! Glean what hints you can from the stages and combatants and try to deduce the winner. Of course, if your pick wins, your coin count will increase! And the more players there are in a match, the higher the payout. There may even be extra prizes. Even if you lose, you can get some stickers. Just to make sure there’s no mistaking that just watching a match can be fun, we’ll be passing out stickers left and right. For those of you who want to co-operate with our data collection for Spectator mode, set Allow Spectators to Yes in your Wi-Fi Options. This will result in your play data occasionally being sent to Nintendo. This setting is in your Wi-Fi Options. The content that is broadcast is the same for everyone in the same country (if your connection timing is the same), so it should be fun to have people in different environments watch and cheer the same match. To be shocked by impressive play, or to bust a gut laughing at some accident will be quite fun! Perhaps you can use it as reference for your own matches. Hopefully this mode is something that even people who aren’t good at games can enjoy. |

Yeah, but how does betting work when the names of the players are hidden from you? Its pretty much just blind guessing then. Unless you can place bets mid-match or something.
