Live Action Dragonball Z Movie
So you’ve heard rumors about a “live action DBZ movie”, eh?
Well, for a while back, it WAS a rumor, until in 2002 FUNimation confirmed that FOX had acquired the rights to make a live action Dragonball/Z motion picture. After that, the web-community pretty much went berserk. All of the sudden, online forums started pooping up, enlightening fellow Z-Freaks with possible “rumors” (i.e. lies) about what the movie really was to be about. After that, magazines like Beckett (not to mention the Official DBZ Site) began to write surveys and polls, asking fans—“Who would YOU like to see play Goku (Vegeta, Krillin, Gohan) in the DBZ Movie?” Some fan sites started popping up, though very few of them had “actual” or “true” information. Official news—though a rarity—came here and there; mostly from IMDb.com and the Official Dbz Site itself. From then on, possible directors/actors/writers/producers/etc. were thrown in and out of the picture…until in early 2004 production came to a complete halt, and plans were almost cancelled. But now it's back.... The Story... An epic story between good and evil, centering on the character Goku and a handful of friends who battle for the Earth against the deadly forces of the Saiyans, who are sweeping across the universe, leaving a path of destruction. Goku and friends' best chance of survival rests with the Namekian DragonBalls, which provide them the power to summon a mighty dragon. Live-Action-DBZ-Movie FAQ Q. - Who is directing the movie? A. – Roland Emmerich, the director of Independence Day, Godzilla, and Day After Tomorrow. Q. – Who is writing the movie? A. – Tedi Sarafian, screenwriter of Terminator 3. Q. – When will be movie be out in theaters? A. – 2006 (probably summer, since most action blockbusters are released then). Q. – Does Toriyama have anything to do with it? A. – DBZ creator Akira Toriyama was hired as the film’s consultant but wanted too much control over it so FOX made him sign a new contract, which basically gave him the boot. :-( Q. – So, who’s distributing it? A. –20th Century FOX. Q – MPAA Rating…what’s it gonna be? A. – Not rated yet, because the movie has to be finished before the MPAA can give it a rating. But FOX is shooting for a PG-13. Q. – Hm, who’s doing the special effects? A. – It was supposed to be George Lucas’s ILM company, but rumor says they’ve bailed out. Here’s an official (or what could become unofficial when time passes) list of the cast: RAY PARK: Vegeta CHRIS JUDGE: Goku JASON BATEMAN: Raditz ORLANDO BLOOM: Tien BILL GOLDBERG: Nappa JESSICA ALBA: Bulma ELIZA DUSHKU: Chi-Chi UNOFFICIAL TIDBITS: At this point, probably either "DragonballZ: Unlimited", or "Dragonball Z: Fight for Mankind". The DBZ movie saga is to be 4 episodes long (4 movies). These will most likely be The Saiyan Saga, The Frieza Saga, The Cell Saga, and the Buu Saga. The hair will be very unique. It will be relatively normal but still have "bounce". Goku's uniform will be blue and not orange. Sets are currently being built at the FOX Studios in Sydney, Australia. info from http://www.dbzgtlegacy.com |

those people sound a little to weird to play those characters. The only one I can picture is Goldberg playing Nappa.

Sounds absolutely horrible, however I do like the idea of Alba and Dushku being in the same movie.

Yea that cast just sounds weird and sadly I dont think there is a good way to take the movie from anime to real action and actually make it work out. Sadly we have a box office failure on our hands.

I can't picture the guy who played Toad in X-Men as Vegeta.
Also I think Orlando Bloom is more suitable to play Chiaotzu. |

Not a DBZ fan, but the fact that they gave the creator of DBZ the boot because he wanted too much control over it, is retarded.
Of course he wanted control over it... he didn't want them to fuck up his creation. lol |

This is going to sink faster than the "Thunderbirds" movie. To make it worse... it a frikkin' Roland Emmerich movie.
Though I do think Goldberg as Nappa was as perfect a casting choice as Patrick Stewart with Professor X. As in, back in the day when my brother and I first saw that episode, we turned to each other and said, "If they ever make this into a movie, Napa has to be played by Goldberg." |

I'm sorry, a live action DBZ movie being good is a shot in the damn dark. But sense we're in the casting rant phase of the internet forum, I say cast Jackie Chan as Kakorat (fanboys, I don't give a fuck how you spell his real name). It fits his 'child friendly' movie thing he got going now. But seriously, a blue suit? I know where this is going.

Vin Diesal would either a good Nappa, or Frieza. Even though I don't see a horrible show (I used to like it, don't know what put me off about it) making a good movie. But I still think it'll make enough money in the theatre to even out due to the fan following.
EDIT-- I saw there was an actual DBZ Live Action movie on sale, had Asian actors and actresses in it only and looked like a straight to video thing. It was in a store near Fulton St. called Bargain Bazaar.. (as if there are many ppl here who'll know where that is... ) |

If they do make it it's about five years too late. No one liked DBZ anymore. Now all the kiddies are into Yu-Gi-Oh.

yeah, if they released this movie in 2001/2002 it would have been a license to print money, but now it's going to be an utter failure that people will just laugh at
My DBZ Website (made in 2000) was at it's prime in mid 2001, getting around 3000 visitors per day (very high for it's time.. especially for a fan site)... was in the 20s on dbztop50.com (toplist EVERY dbz site was on) and #1 on anime100.com for a week, now i'm lucky to get 50 visitors per day.... then again it could be because I don't update it Just cuz i'm loyal I'll still watch the movie if it does come out, but I haven't watched DBZ in 3 years... the fad is long gone btw, I'm playin the part of Gohan |
