Why/when did Goldberg leave the WWE?
I've only just started to get back into wrestling recently and was wondering why Goldberg had such a brief run in the WWE

Don't you get tired of saying that, Shadow? Seriously... just asking...
Anyway, Goldberg was just not happy with the way he was handled. His character is one of the easiest to write for and they still messed it up. He never had to be as complex as they tried to make him out to be, that was the problem. He was a simple character that did a simple thing: crush the opposition. Since he didn't do that, then what was the point of having a "Goldberg" in WWE? In his complaints, he was right, I feel. He wasn't the best athlete, but wrestling was never about that. They just tried too hard with Goldberg and didn't do the simple things that got him over in the first place, thats why it failed. He left because his contract was up after WM21, as others have already stated. Goldberg ='ed money, but nobody knew how to do it in WWE, because there always has to be a reason behind everything on their shows, even when there doesn't have to be... |

Yeah, they tried to expand his character but found out he sucked. So they let his contract expire.

remember goldberg vs brock lesnar match with special ref stone cold at wrestlemania20? this was the last match for both lesnar & goldberg before they left the wwe and also stone cold was absent for a long while after that match. even while leaving goldberg did a favour to eddie guerrero, other wise it would'nt have been possible for guerrero to win the wwe title from lesnar at no way out? eddie owes him one? right?

Exactly, Bad Company.
Iwantrviral, you know that wrestling is...how can I put this...wrestling is a lot like porno...the stories are made up, but the action is real. I mean, you DO know that it's made up right? So theres really no "owing" anything. |

Goldberg left the WWE because DeadMan90 touches himself at night. Seriouslly dude....your opinion matters not to me. So before you think your hot shit on an internet wrestling message board...think again. As for Goldberg...the dude is seriouslly one of the most simpliest characters to use. There is no way for anyone, let alone the powerhouse that is the WWE, to fuck him up. But fuck him up they did because they tried to make him less of a monster and more of a person. You really can't do that to Goldberg. WCW tried that when they turned him heel and it didn't go so well. Don't do promo's with Goldberg, just have him destory shit. |

Wow, you told me... I mean, really... you sure did... especially after you used a line that is and has been repeatedly used time after time since it appeared on Family Guy around 6 years ago... Yep, my ego took such a hit and I'm hurt beyond belief... I mean, ouch... you are clever good sir, very clever. Any other Don Rickles like insults? Hmm?.. No? Okay then, good job anyway, you've earned your keep.
BUT, I will agree with what you said about Goldberg. That is true. I agree with that 110%, I will say that. |

DeadMan90 i do know that the stories are made up in the wwe and the action is real. i was just trying to show that wwe used goldberg to do mock things and did not maintain his reputation when he made a comeback to raw.

I find it interesting that we claim the WWE "fucked up" a character that basically sucked from the get-go. All they tried to do was give actual dimension to a character that lacked any at all. Every other upper-mid carder has an actual character; a guy that you've gotten to know before they reach the position of title shots. Even Lesnar's character was sneak attacking cruiser weights like a cowardly dickish heel, before his title reigns. But Goldberg was boring and irritating: all the in-ring ability of a Masterpiece and the emotional depth of a tree deprived of water.
I hardly see the logic in bashing WWE's creative simply b/c they tried to bring a lousy character -- that someone outside their company created -- up to par with the top characters of their own brand. |

The character needed dimension... WWE has enough monsters who can destroy people. Kane (although not so much anymore) and the Undertaker, and the Bigshow... They can all destroy people, and they also have depth. A person with no depth who could destroy people at that point would just be boring. Anyway, that was what Brock Lesnar basically was for awhile.
