Dany Heatley will play tomorrow night

Heatley scheduled to play Wednesday
TSN.ca Staff

1/27/2004

Dany Heatley will play tomorrow night for the Atlanta Thrashers. The team confirmed TSN's report on Heatley's status on Tuesday afternoon.

Sources had told TSN that as long as Heatley made it through Tuesday's practice without any problems, he would be inserted for Wednesday night's game at home against the St. Louis Blues. Heatley did not suffer any setbacks in the morning skate and his return to active duty was later confirmed by the club.

Heatley is still awaiting word on charges in the auto accident that claimed the life of teammate Dan Snyder, but his legal situation will not prevent him from returning to active duty. The prosecuting attorney's office in Atlanta has been made aware of Heatley's anticipated return to the ice tomorrow night. It is expected that Heatley will be permitted to travel with the Thrashers and leave the country for games in Canada.

There is no word on when the attorney's office will make a decision on what charges to proceed with.

In the meantime, though, Heatley's hockey career is set to resume.

Heatley hasn't played a game this season because of the injuries suffered in the car crash. It was thought his surgically reconstructed knee would require many more weeks of rehabiliation, but the hard-shooting winger has made remarkable strides in coming back from the surgery.

Heatley won the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year in 2001-02 and last season was named MVP of the all-star game. He finished sixth in the league with 41 goals. The 23-year-old Calgary native also helped Canada win gold at the world hockey championships in Helsinki last spring, leading the team in scoring.

The Thrashers could use his help on offence. They are winless in three games and have scored a total of three goals in that span. Atlanta trails the Islanders by four points in the race for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Thrashers are, however, only six points out of the lead in the Southeast Conference, which is headed by the Tampa Bay Lightning.

All I can say is:

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Thrashers going to the playoffs now

Heatley will obviously take some time to get back to his peak performance, but him and Kovalchuk should be deadly together in due time.

Hot debutttttt

No points tonight, but he played like 23 minutes and had 4 shots on goal, and a lot of scoring chancessssssss

And that was just his first game back. He's gonna get like 50 points before the season's over

Yeah, emotional night.

They interviewed him afterwards and he talked about his rehab and such.

Good shit.
