It is fantastic coming from a guy who has only won the Second Division as a player in his entire career in Football, then he takes a job at a club where it is pre determined that you cannot win a trophy.

Its quite intriguing, when you look at it, what Benitez's record actually is in the league. 5th in the first season (Champions League winners), 3rd in his second (1 point behind United, FA Cup Winners) 3rd in his third (Champions League Finalists) and we've finished behind two sides who were clearly better than us both seasons we finished 3rd.

The odds on Smith being first scorer would have been at least 50/1. Apparently Megson chose the goalscorer to make it so Forest couldn't be accused of any betting irregularities, Wengerland had 35 minutes on the first goal time sweepstake, and Sheehan scored after 31, He might have won by being the nearest if Smith's goal didn't count.

Part of me is ecstatic that he's gone, for all the moaning, the complaining, the failure to take responsibility, but at the same time he's a massive character who has really tested the rest of the premiership.

I guess at the end of the day, I just loved to hate the guy.

Well he very nearly took Israel to the world cup, which is quite an achievement as they're shit. Before that I think he had a lot of success in the Israeli league with Maccabi Haifa or Maccabi Tel Aviv or someone. Anyway.

We were all a bit worried when he came to us, because last time Harry had a director of football (Zajec), he ended up walking out and joining the scum. It seemed he was brought in by Sacha Gaydamak and his role was given as "technical director" although i'm not sure why he was brought in or what he did.

As far as I know Harry still bought the players, picked the team and took training.

Harry always said in the press that he liked Avram and had no problems working with him and he was just someone Harry could bounce ideas off of if he needed to.

He always sat in the dugout with Harry and theres loads of pictures from the training ground of him in a training kit. So I always assumed he was just sort of like an assistant, who would toss ideas about for Harry but ultimately it would be Harry's decision.

We had our best season in 50 years while he was there, so y'know, can't have been that bad.

But we've not replaced him since he left, so his job obviously can't have been that important.

I found this interview from the beginning of last season in The Observer:

Was he your own appointment? 'No, I'd be a liar if I stood here and said I wanted to bring Avram Grant in.
