Fat Sam - He had to go. His team played like shit. His signings were generally shit. And no results. The only signing I liked was Alan Smith and he only left United to play as a striker elsewhere. So Fat Sam immediately puts him in a defensive midfield role deeper than he played for Man U during Keane's absence.
25 backroom staff? Get a life pal. They need to get Shearer in just for him to fail and bury this aura. They could get Marcelo Lippi and people would complain he isn't Shearer. |

Why the fuck is Harry Redknapp up for this one all of a sudden?
Newcastle need to get a grip, they are not a sucessful club, they are a big club with an amazing following, but they do not deserve sucess as a divine right. Shearer would be a mistake, but then so many other managers for the toon have been, so why change the habit of a lifetime |

Benjani isn't going to the African Nations Cup because Zimbabwe didn't qualify.
John Utaka and Wankwo Kanu (Nigeria), Sulley Muntari (Ghana) and Papa Boobjob (Senegal) are the ones going from us and they've already gone. |

Cheers Rob...now the only question remaining is "Do I drop Benjani from my fantasy league team due to the fact that he's pants?"
Guess it depends if Pompey are at home this week! |

£20m sounds like a good deal, though.Being the manager of a billionaire chairman could be appealing to him.

What has Harry Redknapp actually done?
I mean with the exception of getting Pompey promoted? He’s won nothing, I agree he’s a good manager, but not a ‘great’ manager. Harry’s always done well with the smaller clubs, he’s like Holloway in that respect, he can get the best out of an average player, but as far as I can see is unproven against any big name underachievers and that’s what Newcastle are, a massive group of underachievers. |

I can't see him wanting to go to Newcastle to be honest. He's getting old now and he has his massive million pound Bournemouth house which by all accounts he loves. Apparently Mike Ashley has offered to use his private jet to fly him from Bournemouth to Newcastle but I don't think thats altogether practical.
We've just signed him up to a new improved deal, so if he does go we pocket £3m so its not all bad. I know that you have to take what Redknapp says with a pinch of salt, because truth can be subjective to him, but he has said that we'll be his last club and when he's done with us all he wants to do is retire to his home and maybe invest in AFC Bournemouth. I don't really see the appeal in joining Newcastle either. Don't get me wrong, its a massive club, huge fan base, brilliant ground, some good players but it has become something of a poisoned chalice and a managerial graveyard Where as we're having our best season in 50 years, we've just beaten Newcastle 4-1 away, the owner here has backed him and spent a lot of money on him in the summer, the majority of fans have forgiven him for going to scum and he's managing a club who's fans are ecstatic with how the club is doing and don't jump on the team/manager's back when we go a goal down. That being said they are a massive club, great facilities, lot of money. So I can see why he would be attracted. But it depends if he wants to put up with the big club expectation. As for what he's done, he took West Ham to a 5th place league finish and into the UEFA Cup. He took us over when we were quite shitty and we romped division 1 and stayed up the next season. He finally relegated those scum cunts who had been living a charmed life for far too long. He somehow kept us up when we were 8 points adrift 2 seasons ago. We missed out on the UEFA Cup because of a goal disallowed in our last match last season. His best asset is his ability to attract great players and talk them into coming to smaller clubs, like Big Gay Sol, Distin, Jamo (ENGLAND'S NUMBER ONE), Muntari. Signing Merson, Stone, Sherwood, Hislop and Festa in division 1 were massive coups at the time. |

Hmm, we've signed Ebanks-Blake from Plymouth, not bad. Hopefully we don't ruin him like we ruined Freddy Eastwood
![]() I was just thinking this morning actually we should try and sign someone like Bobby Zamora on loan. But I guess this will do. |

Maybe Harry will see this as a chance to prove his doubters wrong if he wins us a trophy he could then say what he's done and say he won a big trophy and turned us around.

Anelka to Chelsea for £15 million.
Kinda weird how a couple of years ago I was watching him get booed off at City and they thought they did the right thing getting rid of him to Fenerbahce cause he could never be arsed, and now he's signed for Chelsea? One of those things that just doesn't really make much sense. And now he's played for 3 of the big 4 ![]() Mark Hughes is the other main contender for the Newcastle job supposedly

Dunno why they wouldn't just get Jol, assuming he'd want the job. He's already shown he can organise a club and put out a team that plays relatively good football - he might not win them anything but Newcastle aren't going to win anything for a while, they need to build and have some continuity.

Cort Leaves Foxes
Posted on: Fri 11 Jan 2008 Leicester City have today confirmed that striker Carl Cort has left the club by mutual consent. Cort joined the Foxes in June - and made a total of eight starts for the club. His only goal in a City shirt came in the dramatic 4-3 Carling Cup defeat at the hands of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The club would like to place on record their thanks to Carl for his efforts during his time at the Walkers Stadium. 7 months later than it should have been. ![]() Last edited by Mike the Metal Ed; 01-11-2008 at 03:42 PM. |

Jol or Lippi (or Mourinho
) would be my preferred choice atm, but I can picture it being a massive letdown and being someone like Steve McClaren or something.

Redknapp rejects Newcastle offer
Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has turned down an offer to succeed Sam Allardyce as Newcastle manager. Redknapp was Newcastle's number one choice but after reflecting on it overnight he decided to stay put. "I had a great offer to manage a fantastic club. It was a terrific opportunity but I had no intentions of wanting to leave," he said. "I have a job to do to take the club forward and to walk away would not have been the right thing to do." Redknapp was immediately installed as favourite to take over at St James' Park after Allardyce was dismissed on Wednesday just eight months into his rein as manager. Despite public denials from Portsmouth that any contact had been made by Newcastle the club reportedly gave Redknapp until lunchtime on Saturday to make a decision. Pompey chief executive Peter Storrie admitted that he was "very worried" Redknapp would leave. "It has been 50/50 for a few days," Storrie told BBC 5 Live. "Last night I thought it might be going slightly the other way but we met up this morning and a bit of verbal persuasion and he has decided to stay." Allardyce was sacked by the St James' Park club on Wednesday, and Redknapp soon became Newcastle's number one choice to take over the reins. Speculation intensified on Friday after the former Bournemouth, West Ham and Southampton manager missed a planned press conference. But Redknapp, 60, has now ruled himself out of the running and will continue at Portsmouth, who travel to Sunderland on Sunday. LAST SIX MAGPIES MANAGERS Kenny Dalglish Jan 1997-Aug 1998 Ruud Gullit Aug 1998-Aug 1999 Sir Bobby Robson Sep 1999-Aug 2004 Graeme Souness Sep 2004-Feb 2006 Glenn Roeder Feb 2006-May 2007 Sam Allardyce May 2007-Jan 2008 Blackburn manager Mark Hughes was one of those linked with the job but he has distanced himself from the post, despite being installed as the new bookmakers favourite. Other names linked with the job include former Toon striker Alan Shearer, Martin Jol, Jose Mourinho, Italy's World Cup-winning coach Marcello Lippi and former England boss Steve McClaren. BBC sources close to the 37-year-old Shearer, though, say he is extremely unlikely to take the role as he is happy with his pundit work on Match of the Day. Magpies assistant boss Nigel Pearson has been put in temporary charge for Saturday's match against defending champions Manchester United. |

Quite relieved really. If he had gone I imagine he would've straight away tried to sign Campbell, Distin, Muntari and maybe others, which we could do without.

Same here, i associate redknapp with pompey like i did Allardyce with bolton..Redknapp has obviously learnt from Sams mistake and decided its best to stay. Can't blame him really. Im up for keegan coming back with shearer as the assistant. And Beardsley in the backroom staff,

As shit as Newcastle are (and the refusal to track Ronaldo's run for the 3rd goal was an absolute disgrace) United were absolutely unbelievable today. Just phenomenal. If Newcastle didn't have Shay Given it would've been pushing for the record result ever.
Another abject performance from Liverpool today, the first half was laughable. Reina had a nightmare today, but for Jamie Carragher (who was the only defender to do himself justice) we would've lost that game in the same manner as the Reading one. Arbeloa was error prone, same for Hyypia. Gerrard was in and out of the game, Benayoun was non-existant. Riise was lazy and wasteful. Alonso gave the ball away more times than not. Mascherano had one of those games where 50% of what he did was phenomenal and the other 50% was absolute shite. As for the strikers, Torres got no service all afternoon and Voronin? Well, one of the worst performances I've ever seen. Couldn't control the ball, couldn't pass, couldn't dribble, couldn't shoot. Just awful. Babel came on, and we started to look lively.....says a lot about Benitez when he barely picks him. |

Bottom line for Liverpool whether you're talking about Benitez's tactics or the players performances is a lack of consistency, no other way around it and not much point analysing it beyond that in my opinion.
Also LOL @ Newcastle And finally, Cristiano Ronaldo really is the best player in the world now, when Ferguson said it a few years back he was still living in his own hype and fannying around a lot but now? Fuck me he's so good its untrue |
