First, let me say, I'm not trying to be condescending or an ass in any way. I just don't understand what people see in his character. He comes off as a cheap Kane/ Mankind rip off. I think he'd be on the same level as Goldust and Hornswoggle (freaky character used for comedy) in WWE.
Someone tell me what it is about him that's got Hogan all hard for him. He's not Horace Hogan wrestling in a mask is he?

I always thought he was TNA's Mankind too.....

These days, especially, he does seem like the Swog. I missed the latest Impact, but him acting like a teenage girl is just bad.

There have always been characters like abyss, even before kane and mankind.
The reason people like him I think, is because his matches are usually pretty damn good. His matches with Styles in particular have been amazing.

Meh. The problem is that Foley did the gimmick so well, all similar gimmicks will be compared to him.

I dunno what the deal is. When I watched TNA he was a badass monster who I enjoyed. Then when I started watching again, he had somehow become this talkative little girl.

:y:
His character is downright ridiculous these days, but he can still put on very good matches (which is why I became a fan initially). I think he should have been one of the few on-screen guys to never say a word, to keep with the monster thing.
But, all characters need to evolve and that's pretty much what we're seeing. We may not like it, but it's how things work. I like that Abyss has direction, I am just not a fan of where it is (and probably going).

I use to like him as a monster, but now he just seems like a larger version of Eugene. On the plus side though, he might get Hogan to start wearing the red and yellow again and come out to American Made :naughty:

I like Abyss, but the current direction his character is going makes me sick. It's lazy, it's stupid, and it makes me want to change the channel whenever Abyss is on. And I like the guy. Someone who was never impressed would absolutely loathe this, I think.

The Dr. Stevie thing went on for ages, and basically Stevie messed around with Abyss' head. Mick Foley then got involved randomly, turning heel, and he wanted a match with Abyss because he was just a "Mick Foley rip-off." They did their match, Abyss won, and Foley then helped Abyss out against Dr. Stevie and Raven, turning face again. He apparently only turned heel to "see if Abyss was the real deal."
Since then, Mick Foley and Abyss have been best buddies, and Foley has sort of been to Abyss like William Regal was to Eugene. Foley is always looking out for him, and keeping him out of trouble, as Abyss claps his hands and squeals like a school-girl because he is SOOOOOO happy all the time! And I think Abyss hates violence now. But like Eugene, when he's put into a violent situation, he will go with it.
Eric Bischoff also hated Abyss because Bischoff hates Mick Foley, and wanted to unmask him. Despite their being two matches where the stipulation was that Abyss must unmask, and Abyss not meeting those stipulations, Hulk Hogan stood up for him. He told Abyss that he doesn't want to see him running around scared, and gave him his Hall of Fame ring, which will make him "100x the force Hulkamania ever was," and Abyss is now obsessed with his ring. His new nickname is "The Monster of the Rings" and Mike Tenay can be quoted as saying "Abyss literally has Hulkamania in his hands." And Abyss now comes out to "American Made."
There have been rumours that Hulk Hogan will turn heel on Abyss come an upcoming tag team match with him against AJ Styles & Ric Flair. At first I hated this idea; but to be honest, I think it would be the best thing for Abyss' character. Hogan turns on him, because "AJ Styles is a star, brother." Abyss then gets really pissed off, to the point where he puts Hulk Hogan into thumbtacks (that would be a moment) and spits on the WWE Hall of Fame ring like it's nothing.
Then Abyss should only be a bad-ass.

If you took Kane, Foley, and Tyson Tomko's body art and put them all in a blender, the end result would probably be something resembling Abyss.

his matches with Anderson sucked. his matches with AJ were awesome but AJ was also in that match, and common sense tells us that he's most of the reason for a good match. His gimmick is a lil off to me but its better than him being retarted.
