Portal on Steam got an update on March the 1st. In the update was an extra achievement and new radio transmissions.
Valve's brilliant first-person puzzler Portal has just been updated. Not normally a big deal, but when that update adds a new, mysterious Steam achievement and some hidden radio transmissions and this is Valve we're dealing with, we're right to be curious.
Today's Portal update, officially, features the following addition: "Changed radio transmission frequency to comply with federal and state spectrum management regulations." Not officially noted there is the new Steam achievement "Transmission Received" which goes undescribed by the developer, but involves the use of Portal's in-game radios.
Also included, as spotted by Steam forumgoers are a bunch of new sound files, all prefaced with the word "dinosaur." According to members there, those sound files feature Morse code encoded transmissions.
While we have no idea at this point what Valve is planning—the Steam mob is currently pounding away at a solution and Morse code experts are encouraged to join the fray—we wouldn't be surprised if the Half-Life and Left 4 Dead developer was planning a Portal related announcement. If it were to announce Portal 2, we wouldn't be surprised. If it were to announce a sequel to one of its games in its own game, we'd simply be impressed.
Given the close relationship between Portal and Half-Life, we could also be looking at a separate game announcement, like the long-awaited Half-Life 2: Episode 3. Whatever the case, we're excited and keeping a close eye on updates.
Update: New sound files, including this new computerized voiceover from something that is not GlaDOS and these transmissions, have been making their way to YouTube from users. Give 'em a listen.
The game continues, with those sound files containing data for equally mysterious images. There's plenty of code-cracking to be done, as Valve is going hog wild with this multi-layered puzzle.

There is another thing, this:

someone on the steam forum said this
The title of this login screen is GladOS 3.11.
3/11, as in March 11th.
Gabe Newell is set to recieve the Pioneer Award at the Game Developers Choice Awards on 3/11, March 11th.
We will receive more news on March 11th.
So maybe we'll hear what this is about then.
I checked the 360 version of the game and there was no new update for that version. Everyones trying to decode the messages right now. Some are saying this could be for Half Life 2 Ep 3 or maybe Portal 2. I was never a fan of HL (I played the 1st one on the PS2) but I loved Portal and would love another one.

Officially released details on Valve's sequel to Portal were scant. Fortunately, retailer GameStop comes through with some major details, including the addition of a two-player cooperative campaign mode and all-new characters.
GameStop's description of the PC and Xbox 360 game indicates that Portal 2 is due later this year—the online retailer lists an October 26 release date—bringing with a cast of "dynamic new characters" and "never-before-seen areas of the Aperture Science Labs." And yes, as hinted at earlier, players will be reunited with GLaDOS.
The only details on Portal 2's multiplayer mode from GameStop are that it will feature its own unique story-driven campaign. The "new mode forces players to reconsider everything they thought they knew about portals," requiring players "to not just act cooperatively, but to think cooperatively."
Here's the full product description.
Coming this holiday. Portal 2 is the sequel to 2007's Game of the Year and draws from the award-winning formula of innovative game play, story, and music that earned the original over 70 industry accolades. Features single and multiplayer co-op modes. The single-player portion of Portal 2 introduces a cast of dynamic new characters, a host of fresh puzzle elements, and a much larger set of devious test chambers. Players will explore never-before-seen areas of the Aperture Science Labs and be reunited with GLaDOS, the occasionally murderous computer companion who guided them through the original game. The game's two-player cooperative mode features its own entirely separate campaign with a unique story, test chambers, and two new player characters. This new mode forces players to reconsider everything they thought they knew about portals. Success will require them to not just act cooperatively, but to think cooperatively.
Triumphant.

So they've cancelled the Portal 2 E3 event to be replaced with a "surprise", but the way they cancelled it just shows why I love Valve so much.
Subject: A note from Aperture Science
Dear Subject Name Here,
*
Aperture Science is pleased to inform you that we have partnered with Valve to announce the gala CANCELLATION of the June 14 Portal 2 event at the Regal Theater. The event will be replaced by a surprise. And even though the cancellation of the event certainly counts as a surprise, we are pleased to further announce that the cancellation of the event is not THE surprise. However, per International treaties regarding the definition of the word "surprise", of which both Aperture Science and Valve are signatories, the time, date and content of the actual surprise will only become available as you experience the surprise.
*
If you'd like to ask fruitless questions about the E3 Portal 2 surprise or, more fruitfully, schedule an appointment to attend a Portal 2 screening at the Valve booth during E3, please contact Valve's Special Envoy to Surprises, Doug Lombardi.
*
Thank you for *RECORD SCRATCH!!!*
*
PS: The surprising record scratch is also not the surprise.

This is the greatest opening line in a video game ever.
"Oh, it's you. It's been a long time. How have you been? I've been really busy being dead. You know, after you murdered me. Okay, look. We both said a lot of things that you're going to regret. But I think we can put our differences behind us. For science. You monster."

Save your progress into the steamcloud was the only thing mentioned, so you can resume your game on someone elses PS3 using your profile.
Probably free DLC as well, which would mean MS would allow Valve DLC for free on 360 as they only do it when it's free on the competition. (See: Burnout Paradise)

The PS3 version can play with PC/Mac players, support Steam Cloud (so your save games will be on the net and playable on any console or PC) and also come with a free PC and Mac copy if you link your PSN and Steam accounts. The 360 will have none of that.

Portal 2 is breaking all sorts of rules–offering Steam on PS3, cross-platform play, and now including mod capabilities across all platforms, including Xbox 360 and PS3.
Yes, seriously.
Valve’s Chet Faliszek described the cross-platforming process to NowGamer:
“The mod tools have to stay on the PC side just because there’s a bunch of dependencies that require the Windows platform,” Faliszek said. “But the content that comes out is agnostic, and so we will be seeing that on all the platforms. Depending on the platform you’re on, I should say, will depend on how we’re delivering it.”
PS3 and PC players will both be able to mod through the Steam network, but Xbox 360 abilities remain a mystery.
Source (http://www.gametrailers.com/news/portal-2-modding-teleports/2917).
Sounds cool. Though someone on GT said 360 probably wont get it because MS are weird about free stuff. Their probably right.

Unreal Tournament 3 on PS3 had mod content as well. I'll say one thing, if more PS3 games had this feature, it would make PS3 the superior console to play on, at least for me.
After all, unlimited custom content is why I see PC as the superior platform in gaming.

If Sony are offering content for free, can see MS following suit. They have in the past with things like Burnout Paradise.

Not long now, definitely the most excited I've been about a game since ME2, perhaps even HL2.
Excited to see if there's any futher Black Mesa or 7-Hour War references.
My only worry is whether or not a long game version of Portal will lose some magic.
It's only a minor worry though, I trust Valve on this. I don't trust them on Half-Life 2 Episode 3 however.

I haven't read the digital comic yet but it is supposed to reveal what occurred between Portal 1 and Portal 2 for story but Valve did say there is barely any reference to the Half-Life series since Portal is more of a side-story or alternate story.

I was convinced that I had to put blue gel on the sides by where the turrets were and bounce around and then shoot the wall which would launch me to the exit. And then like10 minutes into it I realized it wouldn't work but I kept trying it anyway because I couldn't see any other way to do it.

It's likely she was the adopted/daughter of one of the Aperture Science staff and GLaDOS neurotoxin'd everyone on that day, or shortly after it. Then the Black Mesa Incident happened, which led, I'm guessing to Chell being trapped there as the surviving Aperture staff likely escaped as opposed to helping those still trapped.

Yeah, don't too much get all the hate Want You Gone has been getting. It's no Still Alive but it's still a damn good song. I even like it better in some regards. Where SA is cute a funny, WYG is more catchy.
Also, not sure if everyone knew this, someone is bound not to but, using the developer commentary is the best way to go back and get achievements you missed the first time around if you don't want to play through everything again.
But, if you're gonna try the Smash TV one this way, don't die. When I tried it and died I noticed after it reloaded and I smashed the monitor, Wheatley would say what'd he say the first time you smashed one. Sure enough after smashing 11 of the 12 I got nothing. Though this could also be due to one of the commentary nodes using a Faith Plate to smash a monitor for you. Not sure if it counts as being done by you or now. If not then yeah, I only did 10

I just restarted the whole chapter once I found out about that achievement. I found that if you died in a room before it autosaved, that you'd have to resmash the monitors. The hardest one by far was the last one where you have to use the blue gel to get rid of 2 of the turrets and then use the excursion funnel to get behind the 3rd turret and use it to shoot the monitor.

Co-op is a shell of the single player campaign. The puzzles are much more interesting, but it really doesn't add anything to the plot at all.

Just beat this, really enjoyed it. I zoned out during a lot of the dialogue and didn't really go looking for many secrets, but were there any hints of it connecting to the HL universe at all?
I know Aperture is mentioned briefly in one of the HL2 episodes, but that's all I can think of.

Also just beat this. Good game. My shitty downloaded PC version doesn't support multiplayer so I may have to rent this or something on 360 to do the coop.

DLC for the game is coming in the summer and Valve is going to release another digital comic this time following up on the Lab Rat part of the game.
Also revealed will be more videos and stuff to expand the story and tie it more with Portal 1 and maybe Half-Life itself.
http://pc.ign.com/articles/116/1164644p1.html
Update: The DLC is going to be free for all platforms (including the Xbox 360) and will contain "new test chambers for players, leaderboards, challenge mode for single and multiplayer modes."

Just finished the game's single player, and man, I loved it. Wheatly stole the show for me. And I loved the song, so catchy and happy.
The game just put me in such a good mood, I could not recommend this game enough!

Seems like everybody can't say enough great things about this game...X-Play (well, Morgan Webb really) even went as far as to call it "quite possibly one of the best games of all time".

100% done with single player, and all I have left is the last co-op course now. Fun game with a friend for sure.
Same. Just cleaned up the single player today. Might be my first and possibly only Platinum if I can put enough effort into co op.
If not then yeah, I only did 10
Why is developer commentary the best way? Doesn't it just start you at the beginning of each chapter like the chapter select option does? And you can't save in developer commentary. I'm confused.

You know what? I may have (read: def did) not even noticed a chapter select. Disregard that then

Just beat the story on this. Lots of fun. But I gotta say, J.K. Simmons pretty much stole the show when the Cave Johnson recordings started up. I was laughing my ass off at everything he said.
Now to grab my buddy for co-op and to hit all the single player and skill achievements I missed.

they contacted sony who isn't involved with creating the game at all and when they told them to talk to the actual company who made the game they took that as trying to blame somebody else. lol

Just bought and finished this recently.
The turret opera is perhaps the best, and most unexpected, thing I've seen in a video game.
Probably too late to get a good Co-op partner now though.

It's probably a good idea to put that in spoilers. Just incase someone hasn't totally finished the game yet.
If you want co-op, add someone from here and set it up, or get someone to do splitscreen.
