Wrestlemania 3
To me, this is really where Wrestlemania became "Wrestlemania". This was the first Wrestlemania to be held in a stadium instead of an arena and had probably the biggest matchup of the 1980's as the main event. Sure, Wrestlemania I was the 'first' event and was groundbreaking but I feel Mania 3 really solidified what Wrestlemania is.
Wrestlemania 6
On here because of the size and scope of the event, as well as the main event. Hulk Hogan v The Ultimate Warrior is probably the biggest main event in Wrestlemania history, even bigger than Hulk v Andre and Steve Austin v The Rock at Mania 17. Hogan was still the most over face in the WWF, six years after winning his first title. The Ultimate Warrior was just as over as Hulk Hogan and had been red hot since debuting in 1988. Not only were they the most over wrestlers in the company, but they were the most protected. Nobody cleanly went over Hogan or the Warrior. If they lost, it was countout, DQ, or due to interference. Add to that the fact they were both babyfaces, and had never wrestled each other before. Remember, this was in an era where the main event workers didn't work with each other every 6 months. Add to all of this a solid undercard, and you've got yourself a top 5 Wrestlemania.
Wrestlemania 15
Kinda hard not to put this Wrestlemania on the list when it occurred at the height of the last boom period (Attitude Era, obviously). Buildup for the Austin/Rock main event began at Survivor Series, 4-5 months before Mania. Nowadays we're lucky if a main event gets 4-5 weeks of build. Also, the undercard was tremendous. You had the X-Pac/Shane McMahon and HHH/Kane matches representing the DX/Corporation feud, two solid matches for the Hardcore and IC titles, among others.
Wrestlemania 17
This was the first Mania to return to a stadium since Wrestlemania 8. And I think it really recaptured the "feel" of Wrestlemania. If Mania 15 ushered in the high point of the Attitude Era, then Mania 17 was the era's closing act. Absolutely stacked card, with Austin/Rock headlining (again). The buildup to Austin/Rock was amazing and has probably been the best build to a main event since (Taker/HBK this year is probably just as good or better though). Plus, you had the excitement of Shane McMahon v Vince McMahon with the added bonus of knowing that WCW had just been purchased by the WWF. Another stellar undercard highlighted by a great TLC match doesn't hurt either.
Wrestlemania 23
Before I thought about this question, I didn't think I'd ever put any of the Manias from 21-25 in the top 5. At first thought, I probably would have gone with Wrestlemania 4,5,14,18, or 20 in this spot, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized how good Mania 23 was. It had a tremendously good card, with the only real blotches being the Great Khali/Kane match and the Divas match. Added to this, all three main event matches delivered the goods. Undertaker v Batista for the World Heavyweight Title sorta gets looked over for some reason, despite being a great match between the two (probably the best they had together, even over their Hell in a Cell match). The "Battle of the Billionaires" with Lashley w/Trump v Umaga w/McMahon was pretty good too. On top of all this, the main event was damn good. HBK and Cena really stepped it up and put on a "Wrestlemania worthy" main event.

Seems like alot of everyone else's answers are skewed to only include Mania 15-on. Is that because that's about as long as most of you've been watching or is there another reason? Just wondering.

I've seen almost every Wrestlemania (I think I have yet to see 1, 2, 11 and 12 other than the Iron Man) but for the most part Mania's quality has gone up in the last decade.
Although WM 23 is my least favorite Mania of all time. Hated it from start to finish. The only decent match was Taker/Batista. MITB was kinda good at some parts.

Also, in response to alot of these being from WM 15 and on...I think there are mostly younger fans commenting on this thread.
And WM as a whole wasnt that great from like 11-16. Good matches on the cards but not the best overall.
To me, wrestlemania is all about the early years. Although I would agree that since like 2001 they have stepped it up again and made it special.

15 was fantastic for advancing storylines, and was highly entertaining for it's time. I think that is easily forgotten.
The event doesn't stand the test of time if you're not familiar with, or in the continuity of the storyline. This is because aside from the main event there aren't really any above average matches.
Big Show/Mankind was brief, and only meant to serve the main event storyline.
The Taker/Bossman hell in a cell was poor, but was there to advance the ministry storyline.
Kane/HHH was decent, but not anything special. It was built to serve the HHH Corporation swerve and DX split. Same with Shane/Xpac, which was probably the second best match on the card.

1. Wrestlemania 18- This is first for me, simply because I was there, and Rock vs Hogan live, was so indescribably awesome. You cant possibly understand just how great it was unless you were there.
2. Wrestlemania 19- Really shocked this isn't getting more love here, because it easily has the best card of any wrestlemania. Only reason it's not my number one, is because I was there for 18
3. Wrestlemania 20- Return of deadman taker, and benoit winning the title.
4. Wrestlemania 25- Makes the list just for having the greatest wrestlemania match(and maybe greatest match, period.) of all time. You know. mysterio vs JBL.
5.Wrestlemania 6- First wrestlemania I ever saw, so it holds a special place.

These lists get tough for me, I have trouble remembering the history from about 2003 and on. When I was a kid I basically used WWE's PPV schedule as my calendar, lol it told me what month it was.
Here we go...
1. Wrestlemania 17
2. Wrestlemania 19
3. Wrestlemania 12
4. Wrestlemania 10
5. Wrestlemania 8
I love the big stadiums for Wrestlemania. WM 12 was my first so that holds a very dear spot to my heart. WM 10 was fantastic for Owen/Bret and the Ladder match, plus I just love the look and feel of the event and Bret Hart's closing picture is amazing. Wrestlemania 17 was what it's all about, amazing amazing matches and great stories with the huge stadium in the background. 19 had some amazing matches like Flair/Taker, Angle/Lesnar, Jericho/Michaels, and of course Rock and Austin. And WM 8 was the end of the golden era for WWE, it was really special, huge, with some great matches like Flair/Savage, Piper/Hart, and the Sid/Hogan match was really good I thought as well.
Overall WM 3 doesn't do it for me anymore. The match with Hogan/Andre is better remembered by a simple clip of Hogan slamming Andre, the match was horrible. The only good match is Steamboat/Savage. It is a huge event obviously I just find it over rated when it comes to comparison to other years.
Wrestlemania 6 is the same way, another huge event and main event. But, no other good matches of note.

2. Wrestlemania 19
3. Wrestlemania 24
4. Wrestlemania 20
5. Wrestlemania 14
I judge them based on card and match quality obviously, but I just realized how amazingly awesome the venues were for 19 and 24. I guess that's just a coincidence.
Speaking of venues, did anyone else notice that the arena setup for Wrestlemania 23 and 25 was almost exactly the same?

Wrestlemania 25 was a solid show, but aside from having Taker/Michaels (greatest match ever) it didn't have a really great card top to bottom.
Jericho/Steamboat was probably the second best feature, and a few of the matches weren't all they could have been.
Of the modern Wrestlemanias (since 17), I'd say 23 is probably my least favorite.
Some of the earlier ones are so-so except for huge main events. Not a fan of Wrestlemania 9, 11 and 16

Matches:
Angle Vs. Lesner--WrestleMania 19
Just an awesome all around match, probably my fave WrestleMania match.
Andre Vs. Hogan-- WrestleMania 3
While not a good match technically, what it meant for wrestling as a whole was huge. You have, arguably, the two most famous wrestlers EVER in a match against each other.
HHH Vs. HBK Vs. Benoit-- WrestleMania 20
Usually not a fan of triple threat matches, but this one was very entertaining to watch...plus being there in person was huge too.
Bret Hart Vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin-- WrestleMania 13
Perhaps one of the worst WreetleManias of them all, it did produce an outstanding match. This one was where Stone Cold really turned face, and Bret heel. Everything about the match seemed great and realistic, plus how can you forget this:
http://bleacherreport.com/images_root/image_pictures/0184/2868/wrestlemania13_feature.jpg
"Macho Man" Randy Savage Vs. Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat-- WrestleMania 3
A match for the Intercontinental championship, it was an excellent match from a technical stand point and made me a huge fan of both Ricky Steamboat and Randy Savage and is widly considered one of the greatest matches of all time, and certainly up to that point.

Yeah they are almost identical. I hated the WM 23 and WM 25 sets. They hurt the eyes with the ridiculous amount of "blueness" and just felt really "blah"
I think my favorite Wrestlemania sets have to be WM 14, 17 and 24. 14 just had an old school feel to it and really was perfect for the start of the Attitude Era. 17 was absolutely amazing. It's weird how it was the same venue as 25 but the sets and atmosphere felt so different. I loved the blue and yellow theme, the titantron looked awesome because it had that "big time" look but also kept the attitude era grungy look. And 24 was just an amazing tropical paradise.

17 and 25 were both in Houston, but they were different arenas. 17 was in the Astrodome which had just stopped being used by the Astros that year.
25 was in Reliant Stadium which is pretty new. I think it was opened in 2004. It's where the Houston Texans play, and there have been a couple Superbowls there.

19 was kind of unique since it was in a venue that's strictly a baseball park. It had the opening behind the stage.
Also kind of strange, but cool, was the entrance stage and ramp being located diagonal to the ring, instead of directly to the left or right of camera side.

I've been alive for all Wrestlemanias, but haven't been a fan for all of them. They started about a year before I was born.
I have seen them all though, and have been watching since early on. I vote for a lot of the recent ones simply because they are better shows.
Ironically enough, when the overall product started to go a bit south in 2001, the annual Wrestlemania event got to be better. I think it's because they've had more main event names, and a stronger roster due to brand extension/the end of WCW.
The name brand of Wrestlemania got stronger, and they started to put much more into it. A lot of the earlier Wrestlemanias are defined by big main events, but have cards that are a lot more like an average show at any other point in the year.
Wrestlemania 12 is one that sticks out in particular in that regard.

Agreed. I think the in ring product at WM has been fantastic since the Invasion angle. I know it takes a lot of hits regularly, but they really do let it all hang out in the ring and get past all of the crappy backstage stuff when it comes to WM.
Call me crazy...but I think the announcing has made it more enjoyable too. J.R. has a way of creating lasting memories with his calls. Hell, he made the Cena victory at WM25 seem epic. The announcing adds a ton to the match that you dont really realize till you go back and listen to McMahon and Heenan call PPV's.

Just out of pure curiousity...how many of you were alive for all of them? It seems the voting is very recent.
As far as venues go...nothing beats Wrestlemania 9 for it's unique atmosphere. I love outdoor shows. The card was pretty blah though.
I'm as old as WrestleMania :o
My earliest memory as a fan is actually WM III with Hogan Vs. Andre...my older brother was watching it.

I'm surprised no one mentioned WrestleMania 2 - the only WrestleMania held in three different locations. Of course, most of you probably weren't born then or never saw that one. It's actually very unfortunate that, for so many of you, "old school" means the Attitude Era.

Yes, it's unfortunate that some people were born in the 80s and not the 70s.
Again, it's not like I haven't seen the old Wrestlemanias, nor do I fail to recognize them a "old school"
You act like it's people faults that they were 1 years old when they occured and didn't see them. Real unfortunate...

I wasn't trying to imply that it's their FAULT.
It's just that a lot of fans haven't seen the stuff from the 80's, and I think
that's unfortunate because so much good stuff happened back then.
I've missed stuff from before the 80's, and that's unfortunate, too.

It's not unfortunate. They can find it if they want to.
It's like saying it's unfortunate that some movie fans consider Jaws to be old school, when King Kong is out there.
They're both old school.

Heyman, what are your thoughts on Wrestlemania 21 compared to 22?

Heyman, what are your thoughts on Wrestlemania 21 compared to 22?
I stopped watching Wrestling on a full-time basis in 2005 and so my memory of both events are a little vague.
Wrestlemania 21 was the event where Batista went over HHH right? (while Cena went over JBL). While Wrestlemania 21 had HBK/Angle, Wrestlemania 22 had Edge/Foley (not as good, but still totally awesome for completely different reasons).
Overall - I would probably give the nod to Wrestlemania 22 (2006) over Wrestlemania 21 (2005). I think the main-event of John Cena vs. HHH had more significance. I also loved how HHH did the DX chop during that match, and how the crowd was popping huge for The Game.

Wrestlemania 19 probably ranks as my 6th....but it would be a couple spots higher if it wasn't for the fact that Austin fought his last match here (I'm a huge Austin mark and was legitimately saddened when he jobbed to The Rock).
