View Full Version : IYO: Jack Swagger or Sheamus O'Shaunessy
Let's see who gets the love...
Is it the cocky former ECW World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger

or is it the the first ever Irish born WWE Champion Sheamus.

I think Swagger has all the ability to be a star in WWE. Swagger has the wrestling ability and the mic skills. He has the cool music and good entrance with the push ups. I just think at this moment they don't have anything for him, but don't want to let him go because they see his potential star power.
It is not that I don't think Sheamus can be, it is just that he was pushed too hard and way too early. To me it doesn't make sense how you can go from feuding with Goldust and barely beating him, to defeating John Cena. His WWE title run was less than stellar anyway. He won by a "fluke" against Cena, and got DQ'ed in the rematch, beat Orton by DQ, then lost in the Elimination Chamber.
I think both can be a star, but I have always liked Swagger more. I wish they would have went with his undefeated for the rest of 2009 campaign more, but we can't have it all.
Swagger is only 27. He is 5 years younger than Sheamus and still has a good 10 years of wrestling. So, it is better that he is not pushed too early and turned into the John Cena type where he is hated by his third year in the Main Event scene.

I definitely love Swagger more. I'm not a Sheamus hater, and I think he is really quite good, but he just doesn't seem "there" yet. Jack Swagger, in my honest opinion, should have won the Breakout Battle Royal and defeated John Cena for the WWE Title at TLC -- if they even should have gone with a random WWE Champion. If Cena had kept the title, Swagger had just been made to look like a threat, and Batista beat Cena to take the title, I think things would have been a lot "cleaner."
But Swagger is one of those guys with all that potential to be a major star. I think there is some fear he will jump ship, or something. He's also got a few intangibles (his lisp, the way he sometimes can appear goofy, etc.) that I think could be considered "quirks," but the WWE might see as potentially damaging. But then again, they put a roided-up Conan O'Brien in the main event seat...
There's always been part of me that is suspicious that a huge part of the reason for Sheamus and Drew McIntyre's pushes (despite them being loved by DX), is that they are European. Perhaps the WWE are trying to increase their stock in those markets? But never the less, I hope we see great things from Jack Swagger. Money in the Bank should be a great place for him to prove himself.

Oh, and a move to SmackDown! in the draft would be fantastic for Swagger. He seems like a guy that Michael Hayes could use brilliantly, and I could truthfully see him winning the World Heavyweight Title over there if he gets steam.

I am more of a Sheamus fan. I will not take anything away from Swagger, he has the goods. For me Sheamus has just got a unique look. It's something different that I think will really catch on, I hope. Swagger has the natural ability with his amateur background. Look what it did for Angle, Shelton, and even Brock.
If you look at who is on top right now it is the big dominant guys and that is the category that Sheamus falls under. It was really hard on this one b/c honestly they both have the potential to be great.

Give Swagger the IC title first. I'm not a fan of putting the big strap on wrestlers too soon. There has to be steady progression. Otherwise, people don't care. See Sheamus for example.....

Swagger has already been the ECW Champion. I'm not sure what you'd call that title. It's somewhere between US and World Title level.

I still think the IC title is worth more. It's probably because I grew up watching it mean something. It was a big deal. Then again, none of the titles really mean anything now. I've probably just contradicted my earlier point.......

Sorry, but I can't buy Mark Henry as a legit force. I don't like the way he's pushed as a monster for a few months at a time and then becomes a glorified jobber, only to be pushed as a monster again. It's the same as Kane.

All three kinda suck but im irish and so is sheamus (seamus) so he wins cos its fucking hilarious hearing that accent on WWE Tv
Here is the reason why I voted for Swagger:
List of favorite Swagger matches:
#1. Swagger versus Cena (Raw)
#2. Swagger versus Christian (Backlash)
#3. Swagger versus Triple-H (Raw)
#4. Swagger versus MVP (Raw)

This happens to pretty much every big man. The Big Show is living proof that you can overcome it.
I agree that Henry's a jobber now, but when he was ECW champion, he was a force.

I couldn't agree with this more. I have believed for the past 2-3 years, the younger guys should got to Smackdown to gain credibility, then once they gain that credibility move over to Raw.
It is easier to get over on Smackdown with your wrestling ability. However, on Raw you need to get over with your mic skills. Swagger is a perfect example of this.

I like Shameus more, I mean he got the title too early and I think that hurt him bigtime, but I love his Celtic Warrior gimmick, he just look like a STAR. Jack Swagger on the other hand look silly. I mean, okay I get it that he is a good technical wrestler but he has like no charisma and no real character. I think Swagger could be better than Shamus if he started picking up on character, like, if they run with his All American gimmick and have Swagger confront foreigners and beat them up to prove that American wrestlers are #1, although that would have been best done when the olympic games were played.

Swagger. I agree that a move to SD would do wonders for him, and I could see him winning the belt (or at least seriously contending) there. He is a very good worker with good mic skills, but he clearly isn't going anywhere on RAW.
I don't mind Sheamus as much as I did when he first came in, although I still don't "get" his appeal. I think he could be a legit [bigger?] star. I just think Swagger has the potential to be bigger.

I like Swagger more..I'd actually consider myself a Swagger mark at this point. Now, I'm not going to say he should be getting the Sheamus push (I don't think he has the sheer look to believably make that jump), but a gradual build, possibly with him getting the US Title and a nice run with it post WM would be nice.
Say what you want about Sheamus' push, but there may not be a heel on Raw whose getting the heat that he is, especially now that Orton is both getting face pops, and being booked pretty tweener-ish.

Swagger for sure. I think he has a more interesting look, better on the mic, and better in the ring.
There is nothing I like about Sheamus. I think he looks like he should be teaming with the Barbarian in the 80s. He is the more generic looking of the two in my opinion.

Sheamus has been on RAW for like 3 months. how about we give it some time here?
Also, Sheamus matches are not bad at all. Don't know what you're watching here. Very solid in-ring guy.
BTW, kind of dumb that this became a poll.

Ahem...Ahem...Well I have been following him since his debut on WWECW. He busts a power move here and there and that's about it. I mean I don't expect him to wrestle like Kurt Angle or Chris :shifty: but I am not feeling him at all :-\
I am really looking forward to his rumoured match against Triple-H at WrestleMania. I hope that he proves me wrong and becomes a "star" in the true sense.

I'm agreeing with this.
Sheamus just seemed way overpushed, and it seems they couldnt decide what to do with him. He can lay out people easy with his kicks, and Razors Edge, yet he could barely win one clean match as champion. And I was really pissed when they had him kick out of the Air Bourne.

Swagger but it seems he lost a lot of momentum until recently with his move to RAW although he did have a nice mini-feud with Bourne that was entertaining in the ring.
Nothing against Sheamus but besides the surprise title reign, he's been the typical "big man" style character who beats up on everyone and has a streak. The feud against Triple H might end up helping developing him more as a character or push him back to low mid-card if it doesn't work out similar to most "big man" characters.

Let me clarify, Santino Marella was a FUNNY IC champ, but not a credible one.
Yea, but in the same era CM Punk, Morrison, Jericho and Jeff Hardy were IC champ.
Santino was short lived, and not to be taken really seriously.
ECW had some great champions too. Still, it had a few that weren't much more credible than Santino.
I do agree though, ECW title ranks slightly above the IC title. Especially with how it was booked during Matt Hardy and Christian's reigns.

Voted Swagger for much of what's already been said.
I've seen too much of Swagger and not enough of Sheamus. Swagger has shown he can work, and work well, with the big boys. His matches with both Cena and Triple H made him look good despite taking the loss. He had a solid run as ECW champ and had a good series of matches with Christian. I think his mic work needs some fine tuning, but I can def. see him growing into his character much more if he were given more time and presented more seriously.
Also...
Swagger won't make it. He doesn't have the look, or a gimmick. Swagger will last until the end of his contract and that's it.
I don't agree with this one bit. He's announced as "The All American American", and he claims to be such in most, if not all of his promos. That's the gimmick. How you didn't see that is baffling.
And he has a great look. No, he's not built like a brick wall like Sheamus, or Cena or Hunter. But he's 6'5, 250lbs, and he moves extremely well. he doesn't lumber aorund the ring like most guys his size would. He has a good deal of athelticism, and with his established amatuer background, there's little reason to think he won't continue to grow and develop into a damn good worker if he's give more time.
I have grown to like Sheamus. Namely due to his comfort on the mic. He has shown to be more than passable in the promo department, which tells me has a legit chance to reach the top position again.
I feel like Sheamus is being held back a bit in the ring, wrestling wise. He's being booked as a power monster, which, given his look, is fine. But I feel like if he were actually given the time, he could really show us that he's a much better worker than we've been allowed to see. His match with Christian really got me thinking that he has a legit chance at shining in the ring one day. Hopefully that will be at Mania against Hunter.
Swagger moving to SmackDown! and working with the likes of Truth, Morrison, Kane, etc has me
