Dave Meltzer reports tbis afternoon that former WWF tag champ, first Heenan protege, John Hill, aka Guy "The Stomper" Mitchell, passed away yesterday (March 12) at the age of 68.
Hill held the IWA world heavyweight championship in Australia, beating Bearcat Wright, in 1966, using the name The Destroyer, when that was the top wrestling territory in the world.
He later worked as half of the WWF tag team champions, using the name "Gentleman" Jerry Valiant in 1979.
The Valiant Brothers, Jimmy & Johnny, who were a tremendous hit as tag team champions in 1974 and 1975, had returned to the territory, but Jimmy took ill and couldn't wrestle for several months so Hill, known as Guy Mitchell for most of his career, was brought as their third brother, teaming with Johnny to win the tag titles on March 6, 1979, at the TV tapings in Allentown from Tony Garea & Larry Zbyszko. They lost the titles on October 22, 1979, in Madison Square Garden against Ivan Putski & Tito Santana.
The Valiant Brothers team inducted into the WWF Hall of Fame did not include Jerry.
He came out of Hamilton, ONT, which was a wrestling factory in the 50s, but ended up settling in Indiana, which became his base.
As a trivia note, Hill was the first wrestler ever managed by Bobby Heenan, and also wrestled under the name Jerry Heenan and Guy Heenan as "brother" and tag team partner.
The NWA mourns the passing of NWA Hall Of Fame wrestler,
Francois Miquet also know as Corsica Joe who died in Nashville, TN on March 14 at the age of 90.
Joe and his tag team partner Corsica Jean were inducted into the NWA Hall of Fame in 2008 at Phillips Arena in Atlanta, GA. The team held the NWA World Tag Team Titles (Mid-America Version) 5 different times from 1957-1959. The team was also 2 time NWA Southern Tag Team Champions (Georgia version) in 1965.
Joe was married for 43 years to professional wrestler Sara Lee who died Apil 5, 2008.
Both Joe & Sara appeared for NWA TNA on the early weekly PPVs.
Condolences to both of their families. Corsica Joe is a LEGEND in Tennessee and the surrounding territories, and had a fantastic marriage that lasted so long, especially for couples that came out the wrestling business. God Bless them both.

Yeah, but we show a little respect. Kayfaybe man is really into the business and really classy. Don't shit on the guy for expressing some mourning at the death of people in a business he clearly loves.

Whereabouts in my post did I suggest that you had to give a shit?
When they post the score of the Dolphins - Jets game on the bottom of the news, I'm pretty sure that they're not posting it for you to give a shit about it; rather to inform people of something that has occured in the world.
And yes, I'm sure someone - everywhere - died today too, but last I checked it was a 'wrestling forum' and therefore these deaths are wrestling related news - just because they don't have to do with John Cena or HBK or CM Punk.
Also, I'm sure 'whatshisface jim' is not important at all - especially since YOU have not heard of him; and I am sure that you are one of the biggest wrestling experts out there. I post this information to share with other people, in hopes they learn and possibly appreciate the people that have paved the way for the product they watch today (not that that is a compliment; but another topic right there).

Perhaps you should see a therapist.
'I have strong feelings about learning about the death of someone'.

If Earthworm Jim is famous enough he would be acknowledged on the main page so you dont have to worry. Were you around in the 50's to watch him?
KayfabeMan
03-14-2010, 05:28 PM
Yeah, because the main page is definitely my source for my wrestling news.
I was not around in the 50's to watch him, but was around in the '90's, and earlier this decade, to work with him and speak with him on many occasions.
You trying to be the 'Kanye West' of an internet messageboard is really fucking pathetic.

Just because you're not here to "make friends" doesn't mean you have to be a dick. If you don't care about a topic, don't click it and don't reply. It's pretty simple.

Y'know the whole 'I'm not saying anything I wouldn't say to someone's face' is such an internet cliche. HBK is probably a 14 year old kid who's bitter at the world because he has no real friends.
