View Full Version : Jim Ross says his return to weekly TV is 'unlikely'
Jim Ross wrote on his official website that it's unlikely he'll return to working WWE television on weekly basis in response to a reader who asked if he'll be paired with Jerry "The King" Lawler again.
"I don't think that WWE is interested in putting me back on weekly TV and all the travel that comes along with it at this time," Ross wrote. "Would I love to work with King again? Certainly. Is this my call? Nope. Do I think that I will ever be paired with Lawler again on a regular basis? Highly unlikely."

WWE needs some decent commentators . I've always like J.R., The King, JBL, and Tazz as commentators. But Michael Cole sucks. He will always be the weasel that D-X bullied around to me. I hate his voice, he sounds like he'd be a real douchebag in person. Matt Stryker has some good moments, but he fucks up too much, Todd Grisem or who ever the fuck this guy is, seriously? I can't respect anything he says, he looks like he should be judging a spelling bee, not commentating on Wrestling. Lawler's the only commentator they have that's worth a shit.
Maybe Smackdown's announce table needs someone a bit more extreme.

How else will we know if it's "going to be the best RAW ever"?
If he only did Mania every year I'd be more than fine with it.
Or maybe even bring him in for all PPVs. Not like they're brand exclusive anymore, and they're making three-man commentating teams the norm it seems.
And on that note, the same should happen with Fink.
Also, stukkband, stop posting your sig.

I want a heel color guy. Like Heenan or old school lawler. It's no fun when they agree with eachother all the time.
Striker has been the closest we've had.
Though I do love Striker myself, I wouldn't put him anywhere near Heenan or Lawler.

Yeah, striker isn't really a heel.
I'm talking really dispiccable.

2 Things.
1. Why did AAA modify this post?
2. Schiavone is four syllables

Is my sig offensive? Is it the fact that it's a half naked chick, or that she has marijuana leaves covering her tits?

Has nothing to do with that, but if you notice, no one else posts their sig every time they post. Take a hint.

Give Matt Striker a promotion to RAW, then have John Bradshaw Layfield return and take Striker’s spot on SmackDown.
Jerry Lawler on RAW with Striker. JBL with Todd Grisham on SmackDown. Josh Matthews and Michael Cole on NXT. Perfect.

He was fucking horrible. But so is Michael Cole, I seriously don't understand why this guy is getting a push to main commentator status. I hate his guts. Triple H and HBK should give him a wedgie and throw him into the showers.

I like Matt Striker, but I don't want him anywhere near RAW. He is such a good commentator that he deserves to call proper wrestling matches. He also works fantastically with Todd Grisham who is my favourite guy play-by-play guy out there today. The dude is pretty witty, and has been with the WWE for quite a while now.
Michael Cole has his moments, but he needs a good partner. Jerry "The Hack" Lawler is not that man. Josh Mathews is getting better results on WWE NXT. Sack King and give some calls to Paul Heyman, JBL or even Booker T. When William Regal is done wrestling, I would not be opposed to him stepping into the booth, either.
Right now, for PPVs, I would go with the simple commentary team of Michael Cole and Matt Striker. The play-by-play guy from RAW, and the color analyst from the blue brand. Jerry Lawler is really not that needed. If King complains about not getting to do PPVs anymore, then let him walk. The dude is not good enough for PPV.

I miss the days of King and JR on RAW and JBL and Michael Cole on SD JBL really carried Cole well and made him tolerable if not entertaining at times and the old King/JR team was one of my favorites of all time

JR and King were a nice duo when I started watching, but then Jerry lost his spark. They get too cosy together, and their friendship gets in the way of any sort of interesting conflict and dynamic they could have together. Even if JR did return, I'd keep him as far away from Lawler as possible.
I'd consider putting Jim Ross with Matt Striker, as I think they would be brilliant together, and possibly move Todd Grisham to RAW. Michael Cole and Josh Mathews could be the permanent NXT team. Cole could act bitter that RAW was taken away from him (which he probably would be), and that could fuel the interesting persona he had there for about the first two weeks.

This being said, I hope Cole dies. No really, I wish an untimely death upon someone solely based on how awful they are to listen to each week on a television show I enjoy.
well thats not very nice is it

I still think JR will come back. He was saying similar things about not expecting to be back on a regular basis back in 2006 when Styles, Lawler and Coach were commentating.

That the WWE signed JR to a contract extention at all leads me to believe that they want him to do something. It may not be commentary, though. I'd look for him to end up in some area of the WWE, however.
J.R. on commentary is classic wwe needs him... but if they don't bring him in for weekly t.v. then bring him in for wrestlemanias and some other ppvs and an occasional raw and smackdown

According to the Wrestling Observer, apparently Jim Ross, Michael Cole & Jerry Lawler will be doing commentary at WrestleMania with Matt Striker, Todd Grisham & Josh Mathews doing backstage interviews. I'm a little saddened by this, as the JR, Cole & King trio does nothing for me. It should be JR & Striker doing commentary, but whatever.
Sweet. Can't have Taker-Michaels without JR.

J.R. at WM in any capacity can only be seen as a win-win for everyone involved. I'm glad he'll at least be able to give quite possibly the best 4 hours of play-by-play he's called in his career.:y::yes:

Cole and King should be on the show because they are the weekly Raw team, and like it or not they deserve it.
With that being said, so does JR. I'm glad that they're putting him on the call. I couldn't imagine the main events being called by anyone else. Especially Shawn/Taker.
I hope JR really gets into/cares about the Cena/Batista match. He could really put it over huge if he wanted to.
I do wish Striker was involved though. I'd be more happy with the team of JR, Striker and King.

His WrestleMania Assignment: It seems that many within the wrestling media know more about my Wrestlemania assignment that do I. I still don’t know what I’m specifically and officially doing in Phoenix but as I mentioned I am just happy to be attending the event. So for those of you that may read what my role is going to be in conjunction with WM26, and insiders might be correct at the end of the day, just for the record and as of today I don’t know. However, if you get any more inside info please share it. I need to know what to pack
