View Full Version : What do you think the chances are of Paul Heyman returning in an on-air role

It was well known that Stephanie McMahon and Paul Heyman clash when it comes to creative aspects of the business, and as such, it is unlikely we'll ever see Heyman with the book in the WWE. But Heyman has been a fairly important on-air character in the WWE's past before. He served as a color commentator for a good part of 2001. He also served as the "agent" of Brock Lesnar and was the General Manager of SmackDown! at one point.
Whether it is as a commentator, manager or authority figure, I think Heyman has a lot to add to the WWE. Do you think the WWE would give him another chance? Would Heyman be interested?

IMO the best era of Smackdown was when Heyman was booking.
Let that speak for itself.

Considering Vince is a deluded idiot surrounded with yes men who have him convinced the sun shines out of his arse i doubt it.
From what i can recall Stephanie herself asked heyman if he would consider staying when he left last time but Vince had got on his nerves so much he just left. Would be interesting if heyman could have full control on one of the shows but we all know captain control freak would never let that happen.

Last time I read any Heyman info he was more or less done with the wrestling business and pursuing other interests. Although, I guess you could have said the same for Bischoff a few while back.

Well, this is true. The dude was definitely burnt out after December to Dismember (as we all were). He saw his baby die in front of him, and he has said that he is done and does have other projects on the go. But those projects don't seem to be taking off easily. Time heals a lot of wounds, and the most I have actually heard in regards to Heyman has been when he is actually commentating on the business.
For a Heyman return to creative, I think the chances are really, really low. But as a performer, I can see Heyman somewhat missing it. Few guys really have the passion he has in front of a camera. It cannot be taught. Heyman can cut a promo about as well as some guys can wrestle, and that is a crucial element in the WWE today.

If WWE decides to eventually stray away from PG-13 stuff? Yes.
Would they hire him during a "PG-13 Era?" No.

In all fairness, we all said Bret Hart would never return, so although it's unlikely, I wouldn't say it's impossible.

Yeah, I just don't see it happening. He always had some of his ECW alumni around when he was with the company before, but now they're all gone. And there's fuck all chance he'd work in TNA. Not saying I wouldn't love to see him back, I just find it highly unlikely.

I would say it is more likely for Heyman to sign with WWE than TNA or ROH, or create his own promotion.
I think we will see him back eventually, it may be for a Hall of Fame Induction at the least but we will see him eventually.

Low possibility since unless he got some sort of guarantee to have power over a show, he would just be ending up going back to the same problems he ended up leaving last time.
One of the reasons he left the WWE was Vince constantly shooting down his ideas even when others agreed with Heyman (ex. Big Show liking the idea to lose to Punk to make the Chamber interesting). Also didn't help that almost everyone with power in the booking committee disliked him and his way of wrestling even though he helped Smackdown have a unique feel as a show compared to RAW at the time.

And there you have it... Anything is possible after recent weeks...

That's a creative position, however.

Yeah managed to mix up the two without realizing it since he was doing commentating the same time he was booking or had a hand in booking feuds during the Brand Split.
I still believe he would want some sort of guarantee of control over his character or input into feuds to go back to the WWE. Defiantly would work the best as a manager to an upcoming wrestler or star since it worked with Lesnar.

Paul Heyman could make a star out of somebody, that's for sure.

The good Doctor is right. In TNA, maybe. In WWE... Yea, not going to happen. He's too much of a loose cannon for WWE and their TVPG demographic.

Paul Heyman's said that stories about him and Stephanie were both exaggerated and incorrect. Go read his articles about it.

Pretty awesome shit right there. I really was pissed when they pink slipped Heyman from the 'new' ECW, although not entirely surprised...probably was one of the leading indicators that ECW as a WWE brand would only be able to last so long without a guy like Paul E. at the helm of it.

In TNA maybe
With alot of ecw guys such as Mick Foley Rhyno RVD,Raven,Dr .Stevie,Dudleyz,Taz,and probably Sabu ,and Dreamer coming in they could do a ECW Invasion starting from the Biseoff foley storyline that is going on right now and Heyman can be the mouthpiece of the ECW stable and Eric can use the wcw guys they have with the band, nash, flair, hogen, nasties . maybe bring new guys into the fold with Wolfe,Tomko,Mogan,Beer Money. and have Angle,Pope,Styles,,LAX,Joe,Daniel 'KAZ,Young,Red stand up for TNA

I doubt he's ever gonna be in the E again... TNA? Unlikely as well but it's a smaller pond and he'd be a bigger fish there... could be interesting...
