God dammit Montreal. Way to screw up everything. That was the dumbest series of events I've ever seen.

Pretty rough way to lose. I still can't imagine what was going through Kovalev's mind after the slash putting his head down.

I also couldn't believe that Ribero was given so much space, I figured they'd play him tighter.

Raycroft definetly stood on his head, very impressive outing

He was probably wondering if his hand was still attached to his wrist!! :-\

Boston got away with a lot that game, but that slash was so obvious it wasn't even funny. I like how the officials in this playoffs are one time saying "Oh we're cracking down and calling all this obstruction bullshit" and then stupid OBVIOUS penalties, almost an intent to injure, are not called.

I don't care if they don't call it, but don't do this half and half crap.

All I'm saying is that if I broke my hand on a play I'd take more precaution getting off the ice than looking at it for 10 seconds to try and tell how broken it it.

This is true!

Plus apparently after the game Sheldon Souray commented saying that Kovalev needed to suck it up and make the play, that it wasn't that bad of a slash to call a penalty anyways.

Montreal had so many chances tonight.... it's just disheartening to know that they're done (there's no way they're winning 3 straight).

So, does anyone think the refs were effected by the "fish flop" the other night, and maybe didn't get Montreal the benefit of the doubt?

Well for one thing its stupid enough to fake an injury. So if they refs didn't give montreal the benefit of the doubt then i don't really blame them at all.

I still haven't seen it, but everything I heard on the radio today (not just local, but national) said it wasn't a bad slash and was borderline if it should be called, but leaving the puck (again, I haven't seen it) wasn't the right move.

From what they said on the radio, he took the slash and then just left the puck w/ no one behined him and skated off the ice.

I heard his coach and a teammate ripping him this morning, while he was talking about "they allow slashes and next thing you know, someones going to get a slash to the leg" or something. I'll have to try and catch sports center later.

He wears short gloves, like a lot of stickhandlers do in order to have better puck control. Should it have been a penalty, perhaps. The thing is however that worse things haven't been called before and will in the future. What is important is Kovalev's actions after the slash. What he did was far worse than any missed call by the ref.

These things happen so fast, it's not like the ref. can analyze them in committee before making a decision. But the previous game and Kovalev's history as a bit of an embellisher may have played a factor in the decision to not call the penalty.

Too bad such a simple play is going to cost Montreal the series.

First, Kovalev was wrong for what he did. I dont care if my hand got slashed off my wrist, as long as I'm conscious I'm still goign to try to make a play at the puck.

It should have been called, but its overtime and anyone who watched that game could see the refs had the refs deep in their pockets. That said, the guys still have to make the right play, you should never rely on the refs.

Also in the wrong is anyone on the Montreal roster who spoke negatively about Kovalev. Even if you believe he was in the wrong, for the sake of the team you should keep your mouth shut when it comes to the media. Its one thing to yell at him in the room, but dont involve the media.

Now the team will be dived, I think Kovalev will fold for the rest of the series, and Montreal will probably get smoked tomorrow night. Its too bad, because if they would have won last night, I the series was destined for 7 games. The Habs really need to come together and step up, if they can I'll be impressed, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

From the quotes I read, Kovalev tried to hang his team mate out to dry also, saying that "he lost sight of the puck and I was just trying to get out of his way".

I don't know if one was in response to the others quotes or said w/o knowledge of the otherone.

Yeah, that was so lame. As ****ing if he couldn't still make the play. I broke my arm 6 months ago playing hockey when I got checked into the boards but I still managed to freeze the puck on the boards.

And it was no pussy break either... my arm was on a 45 degree angle. 2 metal plates and 12 screws later and its finally on straight. You cannot tell me that the slash made him forget about the puck and just hold his arm/hand. Come on at least do SOMETHING!

It was worthy of a penalty though.

But Kovalev of whatever his name is shouldn't have just given up like that. He's in the NHL playing for the Stanley Cup in OT and he was the last man back in a critical game for his team.

It totally sucked, Montreal was the better team, they had so many chances and I knew they'd lose. When you have so many great/close chances, you always end up losing on a really costly mistake or bad goal.

Hope the ice will be good in Boston for the next game, it's not over yet. The Sens finally solved Belfour tonight, perhaps the Habs have Raycroft's number.
