Anyone else heard their singles so far? Their album isn't out until June apparently, but I'm going to see them in a couple of weeks in Belfast based on the singles and other live songs I've downloaded.
They're pretty good. I'm guessing the pile of people here who enjoy their "pop-punk" genre might enjoy Razorlight, also.
Otherwise, it's just some really good guitar/indie pop. Songs:
Stumble and Fall
In the City
Rip It Up
Which Way is Out
Something to Say

Ive seen them live at Birmingham Academy 2.
Have to say I wasn't blown away :$. Rip It up and Stumble and Fall are the only ones that I can really say I know though (though both are pretty good) and I havent heard any others since so I'll give them another chance but they sure as hell didn't convince me live.

That's a pity. Hopefully they'll be on better form next week, but I'll probably just get pissed anyway. The Cribs are playing with them, and they're ok.
Saw Franz Ferdinand on Friday in Dublin and they were excellent live. I'm not entirely convinced by the album, but the songs sounded so good live I'll probably love it soon.

Woah - Im seeing Franz Ferdinand on Tuesday I think it is. :)
I bought the album in the US and am listening to it now but haven't really given it a fair listen at all but hopefully all will be good!

You are in for a treat. I love bands who put everything in to their live performances, and Franz Ferdinand did so, even though they were working with a bit of a shitty crowd. For whatever reason, a good section of the crowd didn't seem that bothered.

I think I like enough of this to pick up their record when it comes out.

Have you heard any Franz Ferdinand yet? You should probably check them out too, perhaps before the hype machine rubs them in your face.
They're starting to get really hyped up here, but I feel it's justified.

I'll try it if I can get soulseek to stop sucking.

1. Jacqueline
2. Tell Her Tonight
3. Take Me Out
4. The Dark Of The Matinee
5. Auf Achse
6. Cheating On You
7. This Fire
8. Darts Of Pleasure
9. Michael
10. Come On Home
11. 40 Ft
That is the track listing for their self-titled album. They're like weird indie rock music mixed with crazy 80s disco beats. It's surprisingly catchy and good.
Take Me Out is their break-out song.

Not bad.
It'll be a shame when the media machone runs them into the ground...

Yeah seriously hyped.
Like one of my friends had heard of them before uni started. Then the BBC said they would make it big and before you know it Take Me Out hits it big (like 5 or something?!?) and then NME are all over them. They've already been accused of selling out :$ its crazy sometimes.

Franz Ferdinand is now for sale at Wal-Mart. Overhyping will soon be on its way.
Still, I'll porolly get the record next time I have the cash.

I don't listen to the radio, or read music magazines, so I miss out on most of the hype. Alot of it gets through in newspapers and whatnot, though, because Franz Ferdinand are on the top of hype mountain right now. Probably because Take Me Out is so catchy.
I bought their album based on hearing their Darts of Pleasure EP last year and a couple of songs at the start of this year on Soccer AM, of all places, got my pre-order in then.

I tend to avoid msot of the hype spots myself. Though some albums, like the Darkness' LP, are basically so in your face even the Amish know 'em.

Just saw Franz Ferdinand - they were amazing I have to say  Will have to pay their album more attention!! Really good performance and sounded pretty good too.
Support was weird - well the second one anyway - no pauses after songs they all just ran onto each other with a few of the earlier ones reappearing at the end?!? bizzare seriously - Firey Furnaces I think they were called did they play for you too ECG?
El Capitano Gatisto
04-22-2004, 12:26 PM
Yeah, Fiery Furnaces and Sons and Daughters. I caught the end of one of them, don't know which, and they were shit.
I arrived late down in Dublin so I didn't get to the gig until before Franz Ferdinand were due on.

Woah you must have been really late  It said 7 on the tickets. First support plays an 8 song set starting at at least 8 and then pause and then second support with its marathon piece. Yeah they started well late.

I got there about 9:15 or so. Franz Ferdinand came on about 20 minutes later.

Another semmingly decent band I am hearing lately is Bloc Party. I have only heard two songs, actually, Banquet and She's Hearing Voices. Trying to get more off of Soulseek.
I think they only just got a record deal to put out an album. They managed to get the video for Banquet on MTV2. They seem like a bunch of socialists going by their website.

I just want you to know, ECG, that I've been downloading the bands in this thread simply on your interest in 'em.
This is seriously high praise, as I'm generally incredibly cynical about the shit people recommend.

That's a strange one, even stranger if you like them. I think packt up is about the only person who has the same taste I do.
Saw Razorlight last night, and they were brilliant. One of the best live performances I've seen from any band. They were only on for about 45 minutes, and since it was for a radio show they had to be off at 10pm. I didn't realise it was part of a BBC radio thing until yesteryday.
They played a bunch of songs I haven't heard and they were still great. They are going to be big when they get an album out. Stumble and Fall is a British rock anthem waiting to happen.

I may not like everything you do (Super Furry Animals bored me), but I like enough of it that it's always worth a look. Much more than I can say for most people...Cept maybe Funky and one or two others.

That's a pity about the Super Furry Animals. I think they are one of the most innovative and underrated bands in the UK, at the moment. They have about 8 albums out, though, so maybe I didn't give you a decent representative pick of their work.

I know I tried the Pogues before, but don't remember 'em.

Due to a total lack of new music to listen to, I'm giving a shot to the Pogues again. I don't know why I can't remember how they sound.

Cool that you had a cool show with Razorlight ECG :y: maybe I saw them on an off night :$. Best band I've seen recently has to be The Zutons. Came to my uni and blew everyone away, way better than British Sea Power who seem to have way more hype (was really busy for that gig). Like The Coral but I actually prefer them to them. Five part harmony in one song had everyone like  new album has just come out but I haven't had a chance to pick them up.

As I was saying before they were playing downstairs in The Zodiac in Oxford whilst I was watching The Killers upstairs. The lead singer of Bloc Party was standing right next to me for the support bands.

You should have punched him in the mouth and said "Who do you think you are?"
That's what you are supposed to do to "famous" people. I did it to Steve Lamacq.

Gonna see if I can find it at the local cd place. If not, off to the mall. If not there, then I will shoot somebody.

Not bad, but nothing outstanding.

I don't listen to the radio.
However, there are several very good "indie" bands emerging at the moment.
Razorlight sound a lot like Television. One of those songs, (Which Way is Out, I think) takes the riff almost straight from Marquee Moon. Which is a great song in itself.
