It appears they are making or re-making Godzilla to be released in 2012....Now we all remember the Godzilla that we got in the late 90's and how much it blows, especially when it went all Jurassic Park and the mini-zillas started eating the cast...can they finally get it right??:shifty:
Here's a link to it, it's on Shock til you drop.

Was going to make a super witty comment about Matthew Broderick, but you already brought it up.
I'm still waiting for a sequel to hatch out of that egg at the end.

And to Think I had such high hopes when i first saw this teaser in my younger years...if only i had the knowledge in my youth that i have now, when i saw the phrase "From the Creators of Independence Day" I would have known better....

The gripe for the American Godzilla always puzzled me seeing as how I seen the Japanese Godzilla series as 'especially' Japanese and not terribly beloved here. It's like how you could take any franchise from the past, any one - I shit you not, and say they're going to revamp it for this generation, and you will hear all sorts of bitching as if that particular franchise was sacred.
This has happened with every announcement of something from the past getting rebooted/revamped/remade ever. No exceptions, no bullshit. The tidbits of the Smurf movie has to most interesting blog comments, "Great, Hollywood's gonna screw something else up!" Screw what up? Fucking Smurfs?!
And as with brands like that I'm left wondering the same thought... Who gave a shit about Godzilla before this news broke? Certain franchises I understand. The hero books (Spidey, Cap, X-Men), some of the niche yet popular stuff (Watchmen, The Boys, Walking Dead), and TV shows with consistently strong appeal (Transformers, GI Joe, various anime series). But Godzilla? Smurfs? If they announce Jem next week watch a legion of 'fans' appear out of thin air threatening the lives of everyone involved if they update the hologram technology theme (yeah, I remember).
It gets pretentious after a while.

Godzilla is way more popular than indy comics like The Boys. Come on. He's a fucking cult icon, ffs.
Also, a big reason I can understand people bitching about the Godzilla remake, is that it was the cheesy style of the old movies that made it popular in the first place. There are a lot more reasons why the hardcore fanbase, didn't like it, but I won't go into that.

who do you think is Godzilla's nemesis? I mean, he's had alot of enemies...but do you think one is a clear cut nemesis? I always lean towards King Ghidorah

He's an icon in the way Super Mario is an icon. More people know about him than they delved into the content. Such is the way of most pop culture icons. Bruce Lee's popularity is greater than his actual movies, for instance.

Isn't the current Godzilla the baby from way back?

as far as i remember, the egg from way back grew during the span of 3-4 movies, but was killed by Destroyah. Though that may not be entirely accurate seeing as how i havent watched Godzilla in a quick minute.

As in the Showa era, in the first Godzilla movie of the Heisei era, The Return of Godzilla, Godzilla was the only monster to make an appearance. All succeeding Heisei-era movies would have Godzilla fight other giant monsters. Like the Showa series, Godzilla adopted a son, Baby Godzilla, as his own child. In the final Heisei-era movie, Godzilla vs. Destoroyah, Godzilla dies after undergoing a nuclear meltdown, and his son (by that point almost half as tall as his father and called Godzilla Junior) absorbs the radiation and quickly matures to become the new King of the Monsters.
odd....i remember Godzilla going nuclear, but i thought it was due to Godzilla being unable to bring his son back to life.

I don't know, they rebooted godzilla twice in japan. I forget exactly where his "son" takes over, but I think in the original series.

His movies still have a pretty hardcore niche following. Way more than smurfs or jem.
Also, people harp on the U.S. godzilla not just because it was a bad godzilla movie, but a fairly bad movie in general.

I used to love renting old Godzilla tapes. The video store down the street had a good selection of them.
Now it's out of business. God, I miss that place and independent video stores in general
One of the only things I didn't like about the 1998 movie was the fact that Godzilla looked like a god damned giant gecko with sharp teeth.

The 98 one really should have been Godzilla vs King Kong, I mean..you're putting it in NYC..go for it.

You can't just "go for it." There's such a thing as movie rights.

However much the movie cost to make, they could have ponied up more money and got the rights to have King Kong in it.

Why would Universal Studios give Sony-Columbia pictures the right to make a King Kong movie when they were developing one themselves?
They hadn't made one since 1976, and it was a huge project for them. It ended up making a boatload of money.
That's a huge movie property, and the Peter Jackson version was in development in the 90s, when the Godzilla in question was being made.
He left the project for LOTR, and came back to it.
Shit doesn't just work like that.

I was cool with it until it turned into Jurassic Park...oh and the fact that they killed the shit out of Godzilla with missiles while he was helplessly trapped in cables on a bridge didn't sit to well either...I mean seriously...:wtf:
