It now seems that Randy Orton is a babyface again for the long-term. Can he be as big as Stone Cold was during the attitude era?

He could be the first Randy Orton in the Universe era.

the thing that made austin good was his feud with vince, middlefinger thing, beer drinking, and not give a shit attitude. with today's audience, if randy did that there would be alot of angry parents

I say Randy Orton will be as big as Austin was, but he has to stay just like he is. Do things that fans will cheer for (i.e. RKO's, punts, rope DDT's, etc.) but at the same time, he must not change in any other way. Meaning, he can't friggin smile like all of these other faces are doing (like Edge is doing now).

Stone Cold rarely smiled, he got all jacked up when the audience went wild and reacted in response to it, but he kept that same "pissed off" kind of face and kicked ass. If Orton does the same thing, the sky is the limit for him. I marked out big time on RAW last night when he RKO'ed Batista & Swagger and then got the pin, then just stood there and let the audience cheer for him and threw up his old pose on the ropes with his arms like he used to do. Awesome.

There were angry parents back when Austin was doing that, only the WWF didn't give a damn.

I don't think anyone can be as big as Stone Cold, especially in today's age....

Fuck sake.

So many annoying threads lately.

He's not gonna be as big as Stone Cold. Stop with comparisons and aims, it's a different time he's a different person altogether. Overhyping and people getting excited far too quickly isn't helping, see - Cena.

How the hell do you draw similarities between Randy Orton and Steve Austin? They are both one of a kind, and no, I seriously doubt Orton will shake up the world of wrestling like Steve Austin did. Nobody will. And if they do, it will be in their own way.

No. The audience just isn't there. When Austin carried the WWE to it's peak, the audience existed. Granted it was watching WCW, BUT at least it was watching wrestling on Monday nights.

Now it's just not there at all.

Doubtful... not that he doesn't have the ability, but the writers don't...

Fell asleep while watching Raw tonight. I missed it last night. Woke up right as Batista came out and when they popped for Orton I completely woke up. The crowd was pretty hot for Orton the whole match especially at the double RKOs. Reminded me of the Attitude era when the crowd was much more enthusiastic.

Orton could be very hot within the WWE, but as some have said, the audience is different. Just look at the ratings the WWE is getting now compared to Austin's time. It's just not possible for him to be as big as Austin with those numbers. Is what you asking essentially "Will Randy Orton draw millions of new or old viewers (back) to the WWE?" If that's the question, then I'd say no. And that's not Orton's fault. It's just the way the entire product is in this day and age. And the way the market is.

Also, people need to realise that when people compare Austin and Orton, they aren't saying that Orton is EXACTLY the same as Austin, or that he is as good. It's just a comparison of attitudes.
