View Full Version : Will they get Randy Orton's face turn right this time?

This concerns me quite a bit. The first time around, they ignored the fans’ wishes and made him a face, and it bombed. Now he’s on a roll and going to get even more popular if they play their cards right. Still, he hasn’t cut a promo in a few weeks, and some are taking that to mean that WWE doesn’t know how to handle his character on the mic. Hopefully that’s bull. I’m optimistic that they’ll realize that Orton isn’t the type of guy that needs to be vocal every week. Leave that to John Cena. Make him Stone Cold, but more psycho. He doesn’t need to be all smiles. He can DDT, Punt, and RKO anyone. Even if he did that to Cena, he’d get cheered, but I have doubt that WWE would let him execute it properly. They seem to be intent on making this an era of characters that appeal to children. An anti-hero doesn’t fit that.
I think the best thing for them to do is swerve the fans, betray them. Remember how the fans were getting behind The Rock, then at Survivor Series 98 he joined the Corporation and it got him over big time as a heel. The thing about that heel turn was, the fans wanted to love the guy, but he joined Vince, which the fans hated, so it built anticipation for that eventual face turn and made him blow up even more.
Basically, keep Orton cocky, doing heelish things, let the fans decide, then have him do something comparable to what happened at Survivor Series 98, I think it is the best way to shoot him to the top as a superstar.
I just realized I haven't watched RAW in awhile, so no real idea what has happened with Orton for the most part, so it could be time for him to become that face, but he should still be an anti-hero no matter what.

I'm loving it.. Either keep him with Cena as a tag team or do the whole cena gets hit by a punt to the head ( video only shows the persons leg ) everyone blames randy get things crazy.. keep cena off tv for 4 months ) fans will be undecided about randy until then.. have randy keep bein face but not knowing what to do, waiting for the fans reaction and then cena return and be like.. THAT WAS SET UP AND THAT he was tired of ppl liking Orton after all the crap he has done to people etc.. and this could be a heel turn for Cena.

<font color=goldenrod>I just want Orton to beat the shit out of whoever it would make the most sense for him to beat out of, regardless of alignment. Just don't suck up to the fans. The fans love the antihero.
I mentioned this random thought in the Raw thread last night - but during this year's WWE Draft episode I'd love to see it end with both rosters emptying in their brand shirts in a massive brawl (much like the end of the 2004 Draft)...and just see Orton pull an Austin and hit like 10 RKOs on SmackDown guys in rapid succession. I'd mark.</font>

Hell yeah.. I think they also need to move the main superstars around also.. I'm tired of seeing Cena, Sheamus, and Trips on Raw week in n week out.. Too many people are being underutilized. Whens the draft?

Check this out.. Sheamus, Finley, and Hornswoggle in their own little stable.. The Irishmen. or something.. Finley is a crap face.. he's a good heel. Same would go for those other guys.. That'd be a hell of a clan. Hornswoggle has no storyline now.
What happened to Chris Masters? It's too bad that Santino, Chris Masters, Guerrero, and Carlito get underutilized.. They could definetly revive the cruserweight divison. Is there a crusierweight title anymore? or a Hardcore title, or a European Title? TV title and US title was in WCW right? So did Vince just toss out all the titles, tag teams, factions, crusierweight divisions, just to play the muscle game with the big boys?

Also.. What do you think about Rey Mysterio starting his own Superhero faction/stable? WWE is suppose to be kid friendly right? Let's do something more serious then the hurricane or rosey, but not too over the top. That new movie is coming out, called kickass, where it focus's on regular day people becoming superheros to stop bad guys. That's perfect.. That'd sell huge with the young people. Can you imagine the merchandise? This could go against CM Punks gang... I think it's a brilliant idea.

What's next for Dibiase? Is he going to fued with his father? or is he going to be involved in some kind of legend vs children angle? I'm confused after Monday night. For months (ever since Marine 2 was released) there has been speculation that he was turning face, but is that going to still happen?

The face turn in 2004 was alright, but it didn't pan out. I hope this time it works.

Rhodes... Gangly, little weird guy... Good fit? I'd say with Evan Bourne. Both have in ring ability, too small for good singles matches unless it's in a lightweight division which we know doesn't exist these days.. Hell, Christian would make one hell of a champion.. Our B stars are all perfect crusierweights.. My question is are we turning to that, and we just don't know about it yet? Did Vince purposely stop recruiting muscular freaks to focus more on user friendly characters? It could be percieved that the new age of wrestling for WWE is full of young, smaller, high flying guys.. People that'd match up against Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit.. Specially after watching that Ladder match as Wrestlemania.

I remember Umaga was getting over HUGE a couple of years back in this exact same way. To be fair, he was attacking the heels a bit more than the faces, but he was just going bad-ass destroying everyone.
Of course they fucked it up by taming the gimmick and making him a generic heel again, but he was getting monster pops at the time.

Trips is too over to be made Heel. They tried that last time and the fans turned him face. He talked about it in a interview.. He was like.. When you hit a good guy with a sledgehammer in the head and the fans cheer, you just can't work with that anymore... So he'll be staying face.

Sure, a stable with Hornswoggle surely wouldn't ruin Sheamus' career. Bah.

It's perfect.. We hate Sheamus for interrupting in matches, being an ass, and always laughing hysterically at evil doings done by him... Finlay and Hornswoggle fit into this perfectly.. It's a no brainer. They'd make a hell of a tag team as a heel team and would use hornswoggle when needed. People are tired of seeing Hornswoggle in spoofs, and Finlay is being underutilized...

Orton not talking much right now actually benefits him quite a bit. They should run with it.

I worry that it's doomed already. Seems to me they wanted DiBiase, Jr. and Rhodes to end up as the mega-faces by breaking up Legacy, and have Orton become even more of a heel than he already was, but since both DiBiase, Jr. and Rhodes were already so hated by all the crowds by the time the Legacy break-up was imminent, the fans broke with conventional wisdom and started cheering the shit out of Orton. So, basically I'm thinking Vince had this grand plan about these 3 and how the events involving them would go down, and it backfired.
Just a thought.

I don't think his face turn is "doomed already," but I know exactly what you're saying about Cody and Ted and I agree with that part of your post 100 percent.

Also, I wonder how "Cowboy" Bob feels about his son already being a bigger superstar than he ever was.

I hope this works out and also i'm really suprised that orton has got over with the fans that quick!
I am not surprised at all that Randy Orton is getting over so quick as a face. As Michael Hayes once said "You cannot bullshit the fans, either they feel you or they don't feel you." ...... That is dead on the money, even the average fan can see when a performer in wrestling has something special, and has the world of talent, thats why they tend to be cheered whether they are a face or a heel.

Right now i'd say Orton is more of a tweener that just happens to get the huge pop cuz peeps are more sick of Cena's bs more than ever. Plus he's made it pretty evident in the past that he doesn't want to be a face again and with the current persona I just don't see it happening. Unless Batista beats him so badly he gets some sort of brain injury that reverts him the more charasmatic kind of guy he used to be. So with if he does in fact make the transition it would really make sense for Cena to go heel once he loses the belt again to a newbie and just snaps. For some reason at the draft i'd like to see him moved back over to SD as I feel DiBiase would benefit more by staying on RAW thus shelving their feud for a later time.

Orton has a vicious run going on. I'm afraid that Vince is gonna shit all over it by him losing to Cena somehow.

Probably the fans who were popping (relative to the era) like mad for the "Legend Killer," right up to the point they gave him a girlfriend and turned him into a generic babyface.
That's not really his "opinion." It's an observation of the reaction fans gave the guy before badass decay set in.

Cena seems to be getting some decent pops. He also gets "Cena sucks" chants, but it's hardly "more than ever."
Orton's response and Cena's are nor correlated at all. Except, you know, in that solid development leads to a less mixed reaction.
