"Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions" looks awesome. Really awesome, in fact. So awesome that I think it could give "Batman: Arkham Asylum" a run for its money as one of the best comic book based video games released in recent years.
In conjunction with GameSpot, Activision has released a first look at gameplay footage from "Shattered Dimensions." According to senior producer Meghan Morgan, players will assume Spider-Man's identity across several distinct universes including the Amazing Universe, based on the traditional Spidey stories told by Marvel Comics, and the Noir Universe, based on the character's recent reinterpretation through the "Noir" comic book line. There are two other universes that haven't been announced yet.
Each universe has a unique core gameplay mechanic, with the Amazing Universe focusing on web-based action. Spidey can spin his webs to make weapons like hammers and staves, interact with the environment and blind his enemies, among other functions. In the Noir Universe, he'll have to rely on stealth-based tactics, using his shadowy surroundings to catch villains off guard.
Additionally, Activision announced two of the game's villains - Kraven the Hunter in the Amazing Universe and Hammerhead in the Noir Universe. Hammerhead's Noir design was created exclusively for the game in conjunction with Marvel, as the character has not appeared in the "Noir" books.
Activision promised that more details, including the identities of the other two universes and other classic villains, will be announced in the coming weeks and months at events such as E3 and this weekend's WonderCon.

I'm excited for it. One of the execs on the previous spierman games admitted the last few games have sucked because they were shooting for "8 and 8.5s" cause they were kids games. He said they are going to try and get back to basics instead of shooting for a mediocre rating because they're making a 'kids games'.

Once the "gameplay differentiation between universes" gimmick gets torn apart once we see how uneven the game mechanics and quality are, we'll be left a forgettable bore that won't do shit for the franchise. Almost certain more than a few "professional" reviewers will question why the best of the universes didn't just get it own game - hold me to this.
The dev team is untested in this genre and I don't trust Activision to give a shit; being that they're pretty blatant about them releasing this to meet their license quota for the year and not because somebody had a great idea. This has 'job' written all over it (much like Friend and Foe, though even that was kinda cute and fun).
I am interested in seeing the last two universes, if only as a comic fan, but I have little interest as a gamer.

The voice of Noir Spidey is the VA from the Fox Kids cartoons. Every Spidey will have a VA who portrayed Spider-Man in the past. Based on this I speculate:
- Ultimate Spider-Man, by the dude doing the Spectacular Spidey cartoon.
- And Movie Spider-Man, by Tobey himself.
Still fail in the making but the idea with the VAs is cool.

Regardless, your prediction of McGuire is exceedingly unlikely. And while I agree that judging a book by its cover is the best policy, perhaps we might wait a little before crucifying the title.

IGN from a Wondercon reveal reported the VA thing. I speculated the other two voices and yeah, not likely the Tobey thing.
The game has first-person brawling. It's things like that which gives me bad vibes about the project as a whole. I'm more optimistic than I sound, I wish no failure for any game. I just think this direction is half-assed. The dev team claims to have created this game after looking at the past games and seeing what fans complained about and wanted most. I am a fan. I read all the reviews for the past games. How they concluded a game set in four universes with different playstyles and a 1st person punching mechanic is beyond me.
But hey, "We'll see."

GTTV is highlighting the game and it's a fucking joke like my spidey-sense warned me about. Activision/Beenox fail. Yes, I can say that before the game drops.
Cue promotions, oversized ads and banners all over blog sites, game journalists pretending to be excited while keeping a straight face, a demo that'll give you a few levels from at least 2 universes, and the game dropping to less than favorable reviews. Activision makes a few mil, game journalists get to sound 'critical' over a bad game, and I'm left waiting another fiscal year for a half-decent Spidey game.
Fucking Christ, my tooth aches.

Btw, Gamestop's preorder bonus (it was leaked on the website, briefly a while back) is going to be the ability to play as Cosmic Spider-man in all four dimensions.

lol at Spider-Man 2099.
As much as I liked the series growing up, having the chance to play as Spider-Man 2099 is just 15 years too late. I wonder how many people have even heard of the 2099 universe. I want to be excited about this..but after the failure that was Web of Shadows and all the information I am gathering about this game..I am just not into it.
Like Kalyx pointed out, everyone is going to bitch and moan about their favorite universe not being included or getting a game of its own.

I am surprised they picked Noir. I bought a couple of issues of Marvel Noir and I didn't really get into it. I didn't even know the series made it this long? I don't see it being Ultimate since we already got a game based around it and it wouldn't be that different from the amazing world.

I don't follow the comics so I'm not sure what the dimension talk is all about. I'm guessing it was something they did to try and do Spider-Man in different styles.
It looks more like "Spider-Man Through Time" to me. Noir looks 1940's, we have the present day and 2099 is obviously the future.
I didn't bother about this game but when I saw the 2099 screens, I thought "Futuristic Spider-Man? I'll look into this.". I'm going to go look into the game more. I'm guessing each dimension is the whole of New York, right?

2099 would be cool as a game by itself. I didn't really like most of the 2099 comics, but Spider-Man 2099 was decent.
The comics have had various alternate "universes." The ones that are the mainstream comics happen primarily in the 616 Universe, named after a designator used in some 70s comics or something. While noir is set in the 30s and 2099 in 2099 (Obviously), one is an alternate version of Peter Parker (Noir), while the other deals with a sort of legacy character (Miguel O'Hara from Spider-Man 2099).
There are currently 900,000 alternate future timelines for Marvel, and a coupel past ones, but there are also alternate concurrent "universes" for Marvel. Since there's one more "dimension" in this game, it's not a past-present-future thing, so much.
I don't know what the fourth will be, though I'm still guessing Ultimate Spider-Man as it's probably the most prominent concurrent deal. Plus, with a TV Show planned for next year, it makes sense. Ultimate Spider-Man (and by extension, the other Ultimate titles) rebooted the franchise in a modern setting without the baggage of decades of backstory and shit. It may not be USM, but it's likely to be a proper alternate.
Though, like I said, Noir is an alternate past, so it's still kind of alternate. 2099 deals with the modern Spidey as an historic character, as well as a certain religion based around Thor giving him mythical status.
Anyway, that's the best I can explain it. Someone might go more in depth or whatever.

I think it would make sense if the 4th dimension was the one that let up play as Spider-Man 2211. This guy:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/90/SpiderMan2211.PNG
Reading about his powers, he would be a good contrast to the stealthy Noir dimension with his super strength and endurance. He has different kinds of webbing and equipment so we could mess around with his electro webbing or rocket boots. He can time travel, according to Wikipedia which could be pulled off Prince of Persia style but it would be better if they left out the time traveling powers.
Actually, I've just remembered the Pre order bonus posted earlier shows it can't be him. Still, I may as well post this post.

Ugh, I do not like the look of the big hulking goblin they've got in Noir. Or the one they did in Ultimate Spider-Man, for that matter. Why would they even call him a 'goblin' anyway if he's a huge beast? Something like an ogre or a troll or whatever, sure, but aren't goblins usually meant to be sneaky mischievous little bastards instead of big brute monsters?
I do like the look of 2099 Spidey, though. I'm still holding out hope that this game won't blow ass, but not much.

I never actually saw the comics that dealt with him. I only read about a year and a half of 2099, before my brother's subscription ran out and he opted not to continue it. I had other fixes at the time, so I missed the one of crossover and shit.

The "gameplay" looks decent, though a lot like WoS. WoS wasn't Bad Gameplay-wise, it just wasnt great. They could make a similar game better, or it could ultimately suck.

This is not a reveal of the fourth universe, but rather an extra costume in the game. Some of us may remember this is the Iron-Spidey suit Tony Stark hooked up Peter with during the Civil War event.

Not sure if you remember the animated series the had on FOX back in the 90s but I'm pretty sure in that show he'd come from another universe along with guys like and Spider-Carnage and that cocky armorded Spider-Man.

I remember Madam Web, who was almost an entirely different entity from the comics, and some Secret Wars deal, and some other stuff, but not all that well.
Also, in the comics, Vulture Rejuvenated (Spellcheck capped that, not me) himself with some life stealing process, and I think he did that in the TV series, too.
Man, I just realised how much of that show is a blur to me.

I'll be picking it up for 20 dollars or so. As many of us have noted, it looks a lot like WoS, which was a decent game with no real full price merit to it. Playing as 2099 will be a fun novelty, but I doubt this game is going to be earth shattering or even something I find desirable.
Or, in Kalyx speak, I think this will be the best game ever and have it on pre-order already.

meh...all these Spidey games look (and play) the same. They keep trying to sell it with different gimmicks.
Wouldn't be bad if they picked better gimmicks.
WoS had the "switch costumes whenever!" Deal which was fun for ten seconds and "Fight seamlessly on the ground, walls, and in the air" which was both limited and something that really shouldn't even be a gimmick.
The new deal, with the multigimmick shit would be better if it was more a "play it your way" sort of deal. If you could go over the top with webbing or run around in the shadows, stealth style, that would be cool. That certain parts of the story are glued to certain gimmicks? Less so.
I'm not sure it would make this a good game, but I think it'd be better than what they've got going.
I'm not too down on it being mission based instead of open world, because the sheer number of Spider-box games have kind of left me kind of nonplussed by the thought of another one. Granted, a truly massive open city with an organic vibe would be awesome, but this wouldn't have been that game, period.
I'd like to see a Spider-Man 2099 game, though I have a feeling this is the closest we're going to get. The idea of multiple Spidey's who each have different abilities is cool, just not if all they're really doing is slapping slightly different shit on them. Hell, I'd love it if they did some deal where you had a bunch of people with a similar power level/ability set sort of deal in the same game. Something other than a dungeon crawler, and something without the possible dispairities of power levels. But dudes like Daredevil, Moon Knight, or other people with a tendency to parkour and use cool fighting moves.
