View Full Version : How would you have handled the Money in the Bank Cash-in?

Long time reader, first topic.

Jack Swagger took the suprise win at WM26 and then tried to cash in the briefcase on Raw the following night against Cena but was forced to retreat before the match could begin. He then travelled to SmackDown and defeated Chris Jericho to become World Heavyweight Champion.

This seems to have gone down pretty well despite the lack of build up. But it's pretty evident that WWE have cashed in the breifcase this early so that they can do it again at the Money In The Bank PPV in a couple of months time.

But how do they arrive at this PPV? Do they say "well we like the idea of having someone with a random title shot but Jack cashed in early so we'll do it again"?

Here's how I would have done it.

I'll stick with Swagger as the winner. But I wouldn't have had him try to cash in against Cena, only to be beaten back and then beat Jericho. This is WWE's "subtle" way of saying "Cena > Jericho" or "Raw > SD".

I would have had Swagger play the heel over a couple of weeks, bragging about his title shot and giving him a little bit of build by beating upper-midcarders like DiBiase, Punk, Mysterio, etc.

Then, when Swagger tried to cash in, I would have Christian - as the de-facto "runner-up" interfere and cost him the win. This would give us a logical reason to have another MitB match and even name a PPV after it as the original MitB winner never got a fair shake at cashing in.

But how would you do it?

Ultimately, I would have had Christian win MITB and cash in on Jericho after Edge speared him at WrestleMania. Instant Mania moment, Smackdown's main-event would be a triple feud featuring Jericho-Edge-Christian and Christian would be more over with the fans than Swagger, oh it's true.

But since that did not happen... Swagger cashes in on the champion and has a 15 minute match (or at least a match to the point where even if he loses, he has the respect of the fans.... throw in a kickout from the champs finisher be it an FU or Codebreaker) and then Christian interferes and costs Swagger the title. This leads to a match at the MITB PPV and that is where Christian gets HIS title shot. This scenario wouldn't and shouldn't happen though since it is basically "making up for" Christian not winning at Mania.

"Hey King, there's gonna be ANOTHER Money in the Bank match at the Money in the Bank Pay-Per-View! And of course, every man who's won Money in the Bank in the history of that match has gone on to become the champion!"

"Wow! I can't wait!"

Maybe WWE is secretly building up a "MITB cash in victory streak" that will lead to a future MITB winner cashing in at the following WrestleMania.... on World Champion The Undertaker! Streak vs Streak! Will Taker's streak end or will the MITB cash-in streak end?

"Wow! I can't wait!"

The way WWE handled it was unpredictable and stirred up interest IMO. So it was perfect!

I would handle it by not having a MITB PPV at all it's a stupid concept and whoever came up with it should be strung up and dragged by horses through the streets of Bahgdad

Or they could cash their checks, cause someone important in the WWE liked it.

First and foremost I would like to personally welcome you to tpww.net. Please remember that we do not follow casual Fridays here, but we do celebrate Taco Tuesdays in the cafeteria every other week.

Secondly, who ever wins MITB looks good. It's not saying Raw is better than SmackDown, or vice versa. It's one superstar taking full advantage of what was given to him.

...one of these years, they need to have the MITB winner cash it in RIGHT AT that WrestleMania, to finish off the show. It'd give a boost to whoever it is, and the following RAW would be all about him.

If Swagger was destined to win the World/WWE title from Jericho, then I think it would have been better for the WWE to have him go over at Mania (cashing in right then and there).

After the Jericho/Edge match at Mania, Swagger could have cashed in and won.

Have Swagger keep surprising and interrupting the champions and attacking them from behind only to take back the case when he realizes he won't win and keep doing this every week making it seem like a futile, comedic effort. Then have Christian win this MiTB PPV and then have them both come out during a Jericho vs Edge match without them realizing until they bump each other. Then they both hurry to cash in the contract to take advantage of Jericho being down but then it becomes a 3 way clusterfuck of a match until either Swagger or Christian wins the title then they have a storyline involving all four dudes.

Or have Swagger do what I said above but Christian just waits back not giving any indication of what he will do until Swagger finally cashes in and wins the championship only to be attacked from behind with the briefcase and Christian then takes the title from him. Two title changes in less than 10 mins.

Next time someone tries to cash in on an opponent, I want to see a reversal/rollup to retain. That would be awesome, assuming The Miz cashes in his briefcase, and lead to the General Manager saying Miz is getting no rematch.

Yeah sorry Miz but your gonna have to lose.

I'd keep the title shot and try to win the Royal Rumble, head in to Wrestlemania with TWO TITLE SHOTS.

Cash it in on Cena at the end of mania, and break all the kiddies hearts by beating him, instantly creating a new star.

I would handle it like Rob Van Dam. He is the only one that did NOT take the "seizing the opportunity" that everyone else did.
