I wanna see what kind of features they're cooking up. Please let's have a 4 (or 6!)plyr tag mode. At least four players locally, some epic sessions can come out of that. Four player DOA was crazy fun. I'm almost certain TTT2 will include a mode like this. Let's do this, Capcom!

I'm interested in this. She looks right up my alley but I wont know for sure until I try her myself, of course, but it's looking good.

They don't usually reveal a single character, do they? So I'm wondering who else will be revealed soon.

Khuntry

I think they might slow down on the character reveals to maybe two. Not sure tho

Fucking love the roster.

She-Hulk seems to have a dashing mix-up. Reminds me of El Fuerte actually. Seems to have an anti-air toss.

Fucking Zero... Same relentless rushdown as TvC. Like the voice, though. Is this the first time Mega Man characters had American VO in a game?

Love that Venom is in. Hopefully it's Brock and not Matt. Or at least if it's Mr. Thunderbolts, keep the same movelist.

Spider-Woman should be interesting.

Great roster, I'll be waiting.

With Tronne from Legends and Zero from X, the best case scenario for Mega Man would be classic, EXE, or Star Force. Betting classic due to being a Vs veteran.

I think her style was a prominent influence, lots of opportunity for flashy effects.

In any case, this of all fighting games will surely have character DLC that will address fan outcry. Capcom makes money, people get characters, all parties win. Capcom-Unity should do polls for it as well.

I'll probably be getting the LE.

If Pheonix Wright is in She-Hulks ending, they might make him DLC eventually. The creator of PW wanted him in MvC3. If they got to the trouble of putting him in an ending, I don't see why they don't cash in on his high demand and make him DLC, along with a few other characters.

Funky Fly

It's not as dial a comboish as MK, but it's definitely combo happy. Some moves just have less recovery and srk types are going to be playing this all day every day and figure them all out.

You played TvC? It's pretty combo happy too. Like I tried Ryu first thing and you can chain some impossible shit together really easily.

I read what the license card is for over on Eventhubs and, what it boils down to for me, is helping people "counter pick".

My license card says I like to pick Haggar, Spencer and Tron and am weak against advance attacks? Now you know to pick Zero, Dante and Trish and combo the hell out of me.

Kalyx triaD
11-19-2010, 10:44 PM

Drakul
11-20-2010, 12:14 AM
We have a few more details that we can share with you about the different modes you can play and license cards! What are those? Hit the jump to find out!

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 has all the robust fight modes you’d expect from a fighting game. There’s single player and versus, the latter being available for online play. In the Mission mode, users can train themselves with a series of character specific challenges.

If you want to study up on how your opponents play, check out the license card. The data found here tracks player tendencies based on their fighting style. Your own license card will in fact record your data, let you choose your favorite icon to represent you, and record your battles and player points. The data in the license card will allow you to see positive and negative points about your play style. By reviewing player data online, you can find friends and rivals to play against and then do “recon” as the fight starts-up. The license card will allow you to see who an opponents favorite team of characters is, number of wins and losses, what kind of attacks they like and much more.

Get set for the ultimate 3-on-3 faceoff when Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds hits PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on February 15, 2011.

Source (http://www.capcom-unity.com/jgonzo/blog/2010/11/19/marvel_vs._capcom_3:_of_modes_and_license_cards).

That sounds like you can look at the card before the fight to me but, then again, it could be shown after characters have been chosen. That would stop it being used to help "counter picks"

I'm not saying it's a bad idea or anything. Just that random people online are going to use it to see who you use most and what kind of player you are so they know right away who they should pick.
This could lead to another "everyone you play online picks Ryu" situation but this time everyone will pick whatever team your best team is worst against.

Kalyx triaD
11-20-2010, 12:18 AM
I don't think that's enough information to make accurate counter-picks with. Seeing my favorite team, three characters out of the whole roster, is at best a clue as to who you might face. And even if I pick that team, what are the chances they'll know how to approach how I play that team? And this game looks more balanced than MvC2 anyway.

I don't see an issue.

Why not put out a demo though? Get as many people who are waffling about it as you can.

Because people are already waffling and are probably expecting this to be better than it's actually going to be.

Not saying it won't be incredible, but some people are treating this as the second coming or some shit. Once they play the game, it cannot live up to their stupid expectations.

Gotta say, the differences between the PS2/XB and the GCN ports are exaggerated. I played the GCN one and the tweaks didn't really register enough to cause alarm. And I like the roll cancel patch, though that wasn't anything we dealt with way back when (I play with upstanding people).

• Famitsu believes that as of Nov. 30, 2010, there are ten more characters to be announced. Some of these may be DLC fighters, though. [If this is right then Dec and Feb should reveal about five characters each...]

• Having 6 people playing online at one time — with one person controlling each character — was considered at one point, but dropped due to online networking constraints. [Glad they considered it, but how about a 4plyr offline mode?]

• The team is having trouble with online play due to the 3 on 3 aspect of the game. [Here's hoping for this one.]

• Niitsuma stressed that MvC3 did not come about because of the success of Street Fighter IV. MvC3 an SFIV started as separate projects. In fact, Capcom has been undergoing negotiations with Marvel for years.

• Capcom included a lot of older MvC2 fighters to balance out the roster, as far as speed, power and gender, and other similar attributes went.

• MvC3's development team is made up partially of old MvC2 staff members, some Tatsunoko vs. Capcom people, among others. [How about 90% TvC staff. lol I wish they'd stop pandering to the 'Mahvel' crowd, I don't believe a word about MvC2 staff having much priority. This is so very TvC 2.]

• Converting 2D characters to 3D has proven especially challenging. A special note about Amaterasu being the most difficult to recreate in MvC3 was made here as well.

• As previously stated, all of the playable characters have their own personal background music.

• Niitsuma stated again that Monster Hunter characters would not be in this. [People should really stop asking]

• The ESRB posted a rating for Marvel vs. Capcom 3. The main point of interest is a quote from one of the characters that reads: "Ya got any naked pictures of your mom? Want some?" Many members of the community have assumed this line either belongs to Frank West or Deadpool. Sent in by Mascot1063 and Defrayne.

Here is what the ESRB says:

MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 3: Fate of Two Worlds

Platform: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360

Rating: Teen

Content descriptors: Mild Language, Partial Nudity, Sexual Themes, Violence

Rating summary:
This is an arcade-style fighting game in which players can engage in three-on-three battles with characters from the Marvel Comics and Capcom universes. Players punch, kick, and use over-the-top attacks (e.g., laser blasts, fireballs, lightning strikes) to deplete opponents' life meters. Some characters also use pistols, swords, throwing knives, or explosives to knock characters across the screen or to the ground. A handful of female characters wear revealing outfits that expose large amounts of cleavage and buttocks (e.g., one character's costume covers her breasts with thin strips of cloth). The dialogue sometimes references suggestive material (e.g., "Ya got any naked pictures of your mom? Want some?"), and one still-frame cutscene depicts a female pole dancer under a sign that reads, "Sexual Embrace." Language such as "a*s, "hell," and "b*e-yotch" appear in dialogue.

The Internet Movie Data Base, IMDB, has a new listing under the voice cast for Marvel vs Capcom 3. Allegedly, Zachary Gordon will be lending his voice to Mega-Man. Zachary was born on February 15th, 1998, making him 12 years old, and he shares his birthday with the release date of MvC3. Obviously, if this rumor is true, it means that Mega-Man will either be in MvC3 at launch or end up as DLC. Based on what we've seen so far, I'd have to guess DLC.

If this is true it certainly confirms one of the child or tween Mega Mans; Classic, or Star Force. EXE was deconfirmed, I think. They wouldn't let a kid voice X after the standard set by Bosch voicing Zero. All this is rumor, though, as we seen before that people with too much time on their hands find some value and typing bullshit and putting it on the internet.

Or Legends? The original VA for Megaman in the first MML was 14 year's old at the time the game came out so he'd be about 13 when he recorded his lines.

Obviously that boy is a man by now so maybe this kid is the new Megaman VA for MvC3 and MML3?

That's a good point, though it seems Capcom would pick a Mega Man character from different versions. Tronne from Legends and Zero from MMX, it's unlikely they would pick Legends MM - even if he was in TvC. There's actually few characters from any one game/franchise in MvC3.

If MML3 was farther along I'd totally believe that to be the case, as it would have been easy overlap to have the voice actor hop over to MvC3's booth.

I guess. Well I'd like to see it be original Megaman, in that case.

Actually, how do we know Megaman will be playable? It could be like Pheonix Wrights appearance and just be in an ending.
Why do I have a vague memory of us being told MM wouldn't be in a while back?

It would be unlikely that they'd waste voice over work over a cameo. They could have just had one of the women do it instead. It would be a hilarious tease/troll as well!

Keits: Many rumors are swirling around based on the fact that MODOK has yet to be seen blocking in any promotional or gameplay video. Can MODOK block normally?

Seth: Yes, MODOK can block normally :)

Keits: MODOK gains what we are calling "levels of understanding" when he hits with certain moves (analyse cube). Can you tell me exactly how this works? Which moves power it up? Which moves are powered up by it? Which moves reset his understanding back to zero?

Seth: MODOK is straight ridiculousness. You gain "levels of understanding" through successful hit with an Analyze Cube. The "levels" can be used in ways to basically give you really powerful versions of existing attacks (the powerup effect from the cube remains until been used). You can stack up as many of these as you like, and you can combo into the Analyze Cube, though it typically ends the combo with that move. Here are the unique moves MODOK gets when he has a "level of understanding":

--Psionic High Blast: does about 2x as much damage as regular Psi blasts, and causes opponent to reel and leaves you with a brief window for followup attacks afterwards.

--Super "Aegis" (not the real name): back+C produces MODOK's small "Aegis Reflector"-ish shield. With an Analyze Cube, you can produce a giant-sized version of this same shield. It doesn't hit like an Aegis, but is virtually impenetrable (to anything less than a super) for a while, and the giant version is so big you have to superjump just to get over it. It's obviously great on defense, but just like the Aegis, firing it out actually lets MODOK rush you down.

--Jamming Bomb: A slow-moving, tracking projectile that causes reel on hit but also causes the opponent's controls to be briefly reversed, a la Thanos and the Mind Gem from MSH.

Keits: Will players who opt not to download certain characters be able to fight against those characters online, like in BlazBlue CS?

Seth: Yes they will.

Keits: People are curious about She-Hulk's dizzy move. Is it a hit, or a grab? Can you mash out of the dizzy?

Seth: It's a grab, it has great range, and you can combo out of it bigtime. So far as I know, you can't mash out of the dizzy--it just ends after a small window. She-Hulk is an absolute beast in MVC3.

Keits: Does anyone other than X23 have a low hitting assist? We think Felicia might have one?

Seth: Yep, they both do. Low-hitting assists are not common, but there are a few more in the game. It's just another potential asset that gives you good reasons to pick some characters for their assist qualities as well as how good they are on point.

Keits: Can you give details on X-factor's final form?

Seth: X-Factor comes in 3 levels: Level 1 is if you've had no teammates knocked out, Level 2 is if you've had one teammate KO'd, and Level 3 is available when you're all by yourself. Level 1 lasts about 10 seconds and gives you a damage boost and speed boost. Level 2 lasts significantly longer and gives you more damage, and Level 3 is longer still and can be nearly double damage. As you know, all X-Factor activations immediately return you to neutral state.

You can only use X-Factor once per round, and when you use it can be a major factor. Burn it too early and it has less impact over less time. Wait too long to use it and you may get killed without busting it out at all. It's also a key factor (no pun intended) in deciding whether you're willing to burn it to kill off this one enemy character, bait your opponent by making an unsafe move safe, etc. It's definitely a new dimension to consider in MVC3 "meter management."

Keits: People want to know all about Arthur's armor. When/why does it break? What modifiers are present in naked/silver/gold armor modes on attack/defense/other?

Seth: Regular armor won't break--it's the Super Armor that breaks. The Super Armor is... a super. It powers up all of his moves in lots of different ways--more hits, more damage, tracking, more priority--you name it, there are a lot of different moves. It's on a (long-ish) timer, and at the end, the armor kind of pops off and you fly back (sometimes it feels a bit like a keep-away version of Guilty Gear's A.B.A.). The armor will break automatically at the end of the timer and leaves you in your shorts, but you can use the super again to restore regular armor. If you use the super again after restoring your armor, your regular armor becomes super all over again, and the circle of life is complete. Unsurprisingly, you take significantly more damage in your boxers.

Keits: What is the motion to perform Spider-man's web zip? Can he fire it in any direction, or only upforward from the ground and downforward from the air?

Seth: Web-zip is (Attack + Special button) and a direction (a command like MVC2's Storm's Lightning Attack). From the air, you can fire it in 4 directions--up-away, down-away, up-towards, and down-towards (basically the four diagonal directions). On the ground, you can fire it towards or away. The web travels until it makes contact with whichever surface it comes into contact with--either the floor, the "walls," or your opponent's face.

It's super versatile because you can also cancel the "zipping" motion at any time, either with an attack, special, or super. Depending on where you cancel it, your trajectory can change for some really tricky setups. If Spidey fires it from the ground, as soon as he zips he's also immediately in the air, so all attacks done out of it hit overhead. If he fires from the air, it brings him down *really* fast, so it potentially gives him the fastest high-low guessing games (with a side of front-back mixups) in MVC3.

Keits: Can Spiderman combo after the wall bounce from Crawler assault without X-factor, like Chun and V.Joe can?

Seth: Outside of trick-shots, no. The opponent recovers on the ground as Spidey returns to neutral state.

Keits: Can Spiderman's Ultimate Web Throw super grab air blocking opponents? How does this move function?

Seth: Yes it can. The move must be done while Spiderman is on the ground. It will not grab grounded opponents, but against an airborne opponent, it's unblockable. Pretty solid air-defense.

Keits: People are concerned that using an air exchange to tag and combo extend will be worthless because mashing every direction and the E button reportedly gets you out every time in the TGS build. This is what testers at conventions have said, so I have no idea if its true or not. Does the game have any countermeasure against mashing out exchange counters other than your opponent just not doing exchange tags?

Seth: You can punish people trying to mash out an air-tag, because if if the attacker doesn't actually attempt one against someone mashing, the masher leaves themselves open by mashing out their slowest air normal. When you do that, you're open to air supers, crossups--anything really. If you want to try and mash a counter, you risk resetting yourself, basically. It's a bit like SSFIV's frame trap counterhit normals that catch people trying to abuse the "foolproof" crouch tech technique.

* The attacker simply not giving the victim something to counter is a point I used in SRK many times that went completely ignored.

Keits: Does Spencer's grapple arm pull him in on block, or only on hit? Can he fire it in all 8 directions? Does he have a grab super?

Seth: Arm only affects opponents on hit. On hit, you can pull them in for a followup, do a dropkick off the wall, or go for a quick follow-on punch. He has a regular command grab that you can combo out of (along with some special follow-up possibilities), but not a grab super.

Keits: Can you answer some questions about training mode for us fighting game nerds? Random block function?

Seth: There's not only random block, there are tons of other options, like high/mid block only, low block only, how you want the computer to respond to knockdowns, air-recovery, etc--tons of training mode nerd juice.

Keits: Seth, thank you so much for the answers and your time. I'll try to nab you for another one of these in January.

They're holding a poll over at Capcom Unity (http://www.capcom-unity.com/jgonzo/blog/2010/12/09/choose_your_exclusive_capcom_store_mvc3_pre-order_shirt) to choose the colour of the exclusive t-shirt you get for pre ordering the game at Capcoms online store. That sucks because the Capcom store is USA only.
I'm still waiting for GAME to put the LE up for preorder over here. I wouldn't be surprised if they got to dish out the shirts for the UK, actually.

• The Thing was considered at one point, but they felt he would be too similar to Hulk.

• Human Torch was a completed character, but he ate up too much RAM and had to be taken out.

• Marvel suggested Super-Skrull as a Human Torch replacement.

• To balance the roster out, Niitsuma wanted to include a young Marvel female, and ultimately X-23 was decided on.

• Niitsuma intentionally held off Spider-Man's announcement until the Tokyo Game Show because he is a popular character in Japan.

• Marvel was reluctant to grant permission to include Shuma-Gorath, but Capcom convinced them that he is popular and an important part of the series history.

• Shuma-Gorath was the first Marvel character that Capcom proposed to Marvel — and he may have originally been planned as an on-disc character.

• Felicia has yet to appear in an official English language gameplay video because of the ESRB.

I'm betting Human Torch will be DLC at some point.

Nathan Spencer, from Bionic Commando, is the latest character to have an in-depth analysis written up for him by Sumoslamman.

As with prior articles, this provides detailed information on this character's moves and play style and what you can expect from him come February. Here's a snip.

First impression
Most mobile grappler ever! He can grab you from a screen away, grab you while you’re laying helpless after a beat down, grab you while you’re in the air, and of course he has a sick unblockable grab with what looks like different followups. Holy S team it looks like we might have a Jack of All Trades on our hands here.

Normals
Spencer’s normals look dang quick. Not only that but it seems like they do great damage. His little aerial raves simply womp, even without the OTG (off the ground) grapple claw followups. His low magic series has great range (Video 2 – 1:52) and his low hard attack comes out really quick and combos into his launcher (Video 2 – :16) and his Bionic Punch hyper for some quick and dirty damage (Video 2 – :50). That 4 hit combo does nearly 50% damage to MODOK!

Source (http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2010/dec/14/nathan-spencer-mvc3-character-analysis/#comments).

It never clicked in my head that he would be a grappler. I was excited to play as him before but now he sounds much better . I think I know my "main" team so far. It's looking to be Spencer, Tron and I can't say for sure yet but Haggar might get the 3rd spot unless I'm pleasantly surprised by another character.

Guy sets up Twitter account and spills MvC3 secrets. Could be making it up:

Apparently, freelance photojournalists are out for in Capcom's crossover fighter, and vampires and giant robots are in.

A Twitter poster calling himself Ken Lennox is supposedly spilling the beans on Marvel vs Capcom 3's remaining secrets, including the rest of the game's characters. The account appeared two days ago, and appears to have been set up expressly to make this information public.

According to Lennox, the remaining Capcom characters are Final Fight's Haggar - as was rumored back in October - Street Fighter's Akuma, and Darkstalkers' Hsien-Ko. On the Marvel side, we can expect Jean Grey/Phoenix and a mutant hunting Sentinel from the X-Men comics, and Taskmaster, a villain with the ability to learn and replicate a person's fighting style just by watching them. Also appearing in the game, although not as a playable character, will be the planet-eating giant Galactus, who Lennox claims is the game's final boss.

Lennox also had some interesting tidbits about characters that didn't make it into the game. Dead Rising's Frank West was originally planned to appear, for example, but there were technical issues with some of his moves, forcing Capcom to cut him from the game. Apparently, Capcom wanted to include Cyclops and Venom as well, but Marvel vetoed them. Phoenix Wright was also considered, but no one ever took his inclusion very seriously, and Mega Man was ruled out very early on because he didn't bring anything unique to the game.

Lennox made it very clear that he didn't work for Capcom, although he emphasized the word "for," suggesting that he has some kind of relationship with them. He was unwilling to give up any information about his source, except for saying that a lot of third parties had had access to the game at some point or another.

Obviously, it's more than a little suspicious that a Twitter account should appear out of nowhere and start reeling off "facts" about MvC3. It goes without saying that people should approach this information with a considerable amount of skepticism, but I must admit, most of what Lennox is saying seems pretty reasonable. We'll be able to find out if there's any truth to this information pretty quickly however, as Lennox says that Capcom will reveal the next pair of characters - Hsien-Ko and Phoenix - at the Jump Festa event in Japan this weekend.

Source (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.250996-Twitter-Poster-Supposedly-Reveals-Marvel-vs-Capcom-3-Secrets).

Some of what he says seems likely/obvious but other stuff, I doubt. For example...
If Frank West was intended and then removed, why is he still in the sillouettes surrounding revealed characters in official artwork? Wouldn't they have removed him from that aswell?

If he's making stuff up he's pretty good at subtlety and exibiting truth as non-sensational. Usually the fake leakers go for sensational 'scoops' to garner more attention, this guy sounds like he's telling it like it is. There's also some bits that people can't just 'make up', imo. We'll see as early as next week.

Replies:

@Carlos09e No Elektra, but she was considered for a while, actually. She made it through to the last round of roster discussions.

@kittypridefan Black Widow was never considered to my knowledge in any capacity.

@OhEsEm Producer Niitsuma-san is a BIG fan of Hsien-Ko and the Darkstalkers series. You can thank him.

@MCseblo Galactus is the final boss, but he is not a playable character.

@Carlos09e Hand stage is not for a specific char. The stage was designed before the final roster was decided. (This is pretty sketchy)

@SonyaNavy Niitsuma likes her [Hsien-ko], and Niitsuma wanted to include more "fighting game characters."

@Cazza_91 Phoenix Wright was never seriously considered, but I do remember casual talk of him. Devs never took him seriously.

@EmperialDonut [About Taskmaster] Basically an amalgam character (borrowed moves) plus bow & arrow. Pretty unique as far as Vs. games go.

@LLEIII [About Phoenix's Outfit] Green with gold sash and details. (Did somebody seriously ask how Jean/Phoenix, who had the same get up since day 1, would look?)

@Colonyoo A lot have been mentioned by others. Doc Ock was suggested, but Capcom preferred to use Spencer. Dhalsim-esque Mr. Fantastic.

@EmperialDonut [About Taskmaster] Borrowed moves period. His moveset doesn't change.

@MCSlumLord [Why isn't Jin or Rival Schools included?] Not sure the exact reasons, but they were never really discussed. Not important enough I guess?

@alex_mmorales Venom was discussed internally by Capcom, but Marvel didn't really want him in.

@CyanChosis [Asking about Psylocke] Never brought up much as far as I know. Elektra was a popular name during development, though.

@alex_mmorales [What is in store for DLC?] Chars, stages, and costumes. None of us "underlings" in America are clued into that stuff yet, but it's all been planned.

@videogame554 No Spider-Woman. Never considered.

@THECaseyLee [About Haggar] Honestly, yeah, he's a LOT like Zangief - no getting around that. But he does have some Final Fight goodies like weapons.

@DanteKong Never heard anything about Iron Fist. There wasn't a TON of Marvel discussion on my side, though.

@Gary2Gold [About Frank's technical issues] Frank had a bunch of RAM problems that nobody knew about until the game went online for the first time. (Interesting...)

@Rvgarafola Haven't seen or heard anything Jill-related yet. Her character is still being worked on as far as I know. (cont'd) Zombies were problematic for Frank, so I'd guess Jill is being retooled. Just a guess.

@Colonyoo [On Gene from God Hand] Never heard his name once, honestly.

@Gioface [Asking about Galactus, and if Doom and Wesker are sub bosses] Hard to explain in tweet form - all 3 are sort of the final boss. You fight all 3 on one team at the same time.

@alex_mmorales DLC should keep you busy through 2011.

@IbukiKef [On the number of alt colors per charcter] 4 that I know of. I'll check for sure next week, but I'm 99% certain that there are 4 each.

@Isoko1 [Bison for DLC?] Yes, he was one of the more discussed names late last year. Akuma nabbed the SF villain spot, though.

@SGTDororo M. Bison, yeah, Ms. Marvel, no. Surprising because Marvel has been pushing her

@Megalax89 [On his source] Well... I don't want to get anyone in trouble. But word travels fast in SoCal... lol. Lots of 3rd parties have had hands-on.

@_syrup16g [Are DLC characters decided on, or completed?] Determined, yes (for the most part), made, no. Shuma-Gorath is complete, Jill isn't.

@GreenPipeMario Some of the guys at Capcom USA wanted Blade, but he's too similar to Dante/Chris.

@Mlepore36 The intro is cinematic, but that's it. The endings are static images.

@Dandy_J [On netcode quality being like SF4] Not sure, sorry. Tests from San Mateo to San Mateo and San Mateo to Japan were equally smooth, though. Could slow w/ more people.

@Colonyoo The only characters actually "cut from the disc" are Human Torch and Frank West, and we probably won't see them as DLC.

@landocondo [On Taskmaster's Outfit] He's blue with a white cape/hood. I'm not familiar with which is which, so I dunno if that's the original or Udon.

@Colonyoo The one name that has been thrown around on my side for DLC is Chuck Greene, but that's not to say he'll definitely be included.

@SGTDororo [Are Shuma and Jill on disc?] Not sure. I've seen Shuma with my own eyes, so there's that. But Jill isn't done yet.

@BrightBro [Does Phoenix come back after death with 5 bars? Does anyone else have anything similar?] Phoenix is the only character with a "mode" like that.

@fworldemperoror [Were any Cosmic characters considered?] Thanos and Silver Surfer, but never heard Nova or Quasar.

@JawesomeJaw [Was Doctor Strange discussed?] Never heard him mentioned - odd because of Shuma and Dormammu.

@apurvasaini [What about Ms Marvel? What other Marvel Ladies were considered? ]Ms. Marvel was never really brought up as far as I know by either side. Elektra and Emma Frost were both thrown around.

@Adelflame Strider was a talked-about character so it's always possible. Again, I don't know who's getting in as DLC. That's away from me.

@SGTDororo I didn't hear much about Gambit and Charlie. Dev team wanted Cyclops, though, but Marvel didn't.

@Colonyoo [On DLC pricing] I definitely don't know anything about pricing, haha. Way out of my league.

@Rvgarafola [Did X-23 replace Psylocke?] I'd guess they just didn't want her in. X-23 didn't replace anybody.

@rotomrocks12312 [Are you close to the development team?] I've got to be careful - I work "around" them.

@Arkrados Niitsuma loves Darkstalkers and as I understand it Talbain is one of his favorites, but to be realistic - don't expect DS DLC.

@GreenPipeMario Pretty sure B.B. Hood was never planned!

@rotomrocks12312 Frank was removed for similar reasons to Human Torch - memory issues.

@Mlepore36 Human Torch was designed to be engulfed in constant flame - this caused slowdown. Frank's zombie Supers caused slowdown online.

@AlbertusWesker 4 buttons = different color

@Poison_for_SSF4 Poison WAS discussed a bit, actually. She has an NPC model in the Metro City stage, though.

Possibly Iron Man, played him in past Vs games...

I'm betting the fire effect is dynamic and not some static looped animation (which would look crap by comparison). If that's the case 1 or 2 torches could be done no prob, but you get 3 or more and the game would slow to a crawl and/or crash.

Apparently he will gradually reveal all the characters' outfits. God damn, so pumped for this game. Actually havn't been this pumped for a game in quite some time.

Kalyx triaD

I just seeing the vs series in a more balanced set up than the last game. I like the TvC base 'engine' better than MvC2, which was more or less capcom seeing how crazy they could make a game before it's unplayable. It was fun in a color-coded crackpipe sort of way.

But this looks way better. I love the roster. Love the look. Marvel vs Capcom is going out with a bang.

I'd love a game like this that is just all comic book characters.

Avengers/JLA was well done, though. I'd love a fighting game using MvC3's engine, and the same attention to detail. I'd also love to see how Capcom interprets Batman's abilities. His move set would be epic, and I know they'd love to do it.

Fignuts
12-22-2010, 09:04 AM
I found JLA/Avengers to be cliched and boring. And it wasn't helped by George Perez's art. I find that Perez is one of those artists where when he's good, he's really fucking good.(see crisis on infinite earths) and when is bad, he's really fucking bad(see JLA/Avengers)

Is it too much to ask, for a Marvel vs DC crossover that isn't completely and utterly formulaic?

It confirms a third Darkstalkers character. It mentions Charles (Xavier?). It mentions Akuma's power source. It confirms 8plyr lobbies. It also mentions a Mega Buster (though that could refer to Zero, I guess). None of that was official revealed or even teased. Some leaks alluded to these elements but they are leaks. I didn't mean spoiler in a story sense.

Will the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 CG episodes be on the game disc?

Seth Killian: Yep, they're unlockables, and they're gorgeous. :)

Since there are no more conventions and its only two months until MvC3 is released, it seems like you're trying hard to space out info so they can keep the hype alive.

Svensson: We still have quite a few good venues for making announcements/providing hands-on opportunities still. Don't worry. There will be solid flow of information in the six weeks or so leading up to launch.

Can you please put Sigma in Marvel vs. Capcom 3?

Svensson: I don't believe this is in the cards guys.

What are the chances for Alpha 2 to make its way onto PSN & XBLA? — JazzyNYC99

Svensson: I'll never say never, but I think I'd be a hard sell around here.

To be fair, I believe Street Fighter Alpha 2 for PS1 is up on PSN for download currently (unless my memory is somehow failing me).

I just found it strange that Capcom Japan used Tatsunoko artists for TvC but when Capcom USA got involved they kicked out the Tatsunoko art and shoehorned in Udon Art. I don't mind Udon, but it's a shame to see them toss out all the Tatsunoko side art. — Gojiguy

Svensson: For clarification, the U.S. team had nothing to do with this decision. The producer (Ryota Niitsuma) made that call. Either way, the end results were still good.

Udon does a LOT of work for Capcom Japan directly.

Yoshinori Ono wanted to make Darkstalkers, but he was forced to make Street Fighter X Tekken, which is an illogical crossover. All of your talent left recently, your company is going down, etc.

Svensson: Actually, Street Fighter X Tekken WAS Ono's idea and he put the deal together with Namco.

I won't go point by point but most of your rampant speculation is WAY off guys. Believe me or don't, the proof will be in the pudding over the next five years.

Suffice to say, there's still more than 1,000 production staff and most of the directors (the real creative sorts) have never left Capcom. We've expanded and brought in 170 more folks (new blood) in Vancouver at Capcom Vancouver.

High level production talent has left Capcom over it's 20 year history (Okamoto, Funamizu, Nishitani, etc.) and it hasn't lead to a downturn yet.

Anyway, question answered. Believe what you choose.

You guys should release a Capcom Classics Collection with titles like Super Gem Fighters and Saturday Night Slam Masters 1 & 2.

Svensson: Noted. [...] I can say there really aren't any plans for new Capcom Classics Collections at this time. That said, we're approaching the part of the hardware lifecycle that we possibly should be.

Source (http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2010/dec/23/sven-solid-flow-mvc3-info-over-next-six-weeks/).

Given the reply to the first questions, I'm thinking/hoping it could be sort of like SSBB with the cutscenes between major points.

That's cool as hell Khuntry. You are pretty talented man. Keep up the good work.

I love all of the artwork, but I particularly love Spidey.
He's one of the most interesting characters to look at/draw, and I can appreciate a good style on him. I like that. The head/eye shape and articulation of joints (especially the fingers) is sweet.

Seth Killian politely owns a few dudes who think they know more about an unreleased game he's working on than he does:

Is there going to be one more Darkstalker in Marvel vs. Capcom 3?

Seth: No way you're getting that one out of me :-*

Why has Capcom made Felicia weak and have a horrible English voice actor and the lowest heath in the game?

Seth: Felicia is, in my opinion, much stronger in MvC3 than she has ever been in any game before. She might seem a bit obvious so far, but she definitely has the tools to win. Right now probably the most under-appreciated character in the game (in fairness, that's mostly by people who haven't had a chance to play much). [...]

Seth, you're talking about Felicia as though she's the most awesome, deadly, unappreciated god tier character ever is really getting out of hand. — Al

Seth: ??? [LOL]

I don't think I've really ever talked about Felicia in depth before, but I called her underappreciated because she is, and said she was, in my opinion, stronger in MvC3 than in any game before. That's true. I don't know how you translated that to what you've written above ("god-tier"?).

Your constant implications that those who say she's bad or simply decent are fools who don't know how to play her (which, by the way, is extremely insulting to people like me who have mained Felicia in every game she's been in so far). She is not better in this game than in all the others she's appeared in, she was vastly superior in Darkstalkers 3 and MvC2. — Al

Seth: Let's take the crazy-talk down a notch here. Not sure where you're coming from, but I didn't call anybody a fool (how can I insult someone's ability to play a character in a game that hasn't even been released?). I said that nobody that I've seen in videos or playing at the various location tests, etc. has come close to tapping her potential. That's also very true.

As for Felicia's stamina, it's below average (it's not the lowest in the game), but low stamina is true for a lot of the strongest "rush" characters in terms of health, and she has a very strong rush-down game. Beyond her movelist, there are a lot of features of the MvC3 engine that she is particularly good at exploiting. I won't be able to describe her extremely fast high/low mixups in a convincing way, but here's a few other Felicia fun-facts that make her strong:

1) Being able to OTG the opponent without the use of an assist is a very valuable ability in MvC3, and Felicia's Down-Toward + Medium Attack is one of the best in that department, meaning she can easily hit-confirm into a lethal combo from virtually any situation.

2) She can also combo from a throw as well as from her command throw. Because Down-Toward + Medium Attack is also jump-cancellable, in the corner, this is particularly dangerous.

3) She has a low-hitting assist, meaning she's not just dangerous as a point character, she's also one of the most dangerous assists in the game (you can set up unblockable high/low situations).

Those aren't even the top reasons she's strong, which are better seen than talked about. Her "Helper Kitty" super is also extremely dangerous, and sets up more potential unblockables while she's on point.

Did you know those things about Felicia? I'm guessing "no" because nobody without a copy of the game would know them, and if you DID have a copy of the game, I wouldn't have to tell you that Felicia is legit, because you would know it for yourself :P I'm not trying to go, "I have the game and you don't! Neener neener neener!" I'm just pointing them out to illustrate that there's a lot more to these characters than meets the eye, or that you would necessarily discover after a few minutes of playtime. You're going to want to go hands-on and spend some time playing before you make pronouncements about who sucks, who doesn't — there are an unbelievable amount of possibilities in here.

Anyway, enough Felicia chat — let's have this argument again after the MvC3 release. If you still think Felicia is so worse than she's been in other games (and can find a rankings chart or two that agrees), I'll be happy to apologize.

P.S.: To the original poster, regarding the voice, if you don't like the English voice actor, you'll have the option to select her Japanese voice instead!

I love this guy, and fucking hate gamers.

That would mean a different character, and I doubt Bucky Cap would be added over other characters. rather see his costume as an alt.

Like the alternate colors, eh? How about these!:

Lilith-Morrigan and Ultimate She-Hulk shown.

http://media.eventhubs.com/images/2011/01/06_mvc3alts05.jpg
Red Hulk and She-Hulk colors, General Ross and Betty cameo!

http://media.eventhubs.com/images/2011/01/06_mvc3alts06.jpg
Morrigan looking right in Halloween colors, and Grey Hulk joins Savage She-Hulk. X23's in her New X-Men uniform.

http://media.eventhubs.com/images/2011/01/06_mvc3alts01.jpg
Chun-Li's in what may be her most popular alt color, which debuted in 3rd Strike. Doom's looking more badass than he needs to be, does that reference anything? Check out Chris!

http://media.eventhubs.com/images/2011/01/06_mvc3alts02.jpg
Chris going all BSAA and Stark goes issue #1 on us.

http://media.eventhubs.com/images/2011/01/06_mvc3alts03.jpg
C.Viper in colors that seem better than her default set.

http://media.eventhubs.com/images/2011/01/06_mvc3alts07.jpg
And here's a lovely MODAM set for MODOK.

http://media.eventhubs.com/images/2011/01/06_mvc3alts08.jpg
Zero honors the blue bomber himself (somebody has to), while it seems Skrull has a Colussus thing going.

http://media.eventhubs.com/images/2011/01/06_mvc3alts09.jpg
Bass.exe?! And Tron looks good in black.

http://media.eventhubs.com/images/2011/01/06_mvc3alts10.jpg
Storm goes oldschool, and Cap goes Communist. Dante and Trish switch colors!

http://media.eventhubs.com/images/2011/01/06_mvc3alts11.jpg
Storm rocking Stark's colors. Hmm....

http://media.eventhubs.com/images/2011/01/06_mvc3alts12.jpg
AoA Logan and X-Force Deadpool. Black Viewtiful too. Spencer in those colors seems deliberate and not random...

http://media.eventhubs.com/images/2011/01/06_mvc3alts14.jpg
Frank Castle cameo on Cap! Spidey in the one of his Big Time suits. Trish looking majestic and Dante getting all military.

http://media.eventhubs.com/images/2011/01/06_mvc3alts13.jpg
Deadpool honors X-Men, and Ammy looks like she joined X-Force.

Hidden for hi-res awesomeness.

VERY happy with the work they put into the alts.

If it were me, I would have changed some things though.

USAgent or Bucky Cap instead of Turqoise Cap. (Is that actually from anything?)

Iron Patriot (Actually thought this would be a given.)

Make Wolverine's more than just palette swaps.

So yeah, they did a pretty good job, considering those are my only complaints.

Hoping for Endsong Phoenix and Jim Lee Jean Grey as alts.

Tried to embed this (http://g4tv.com/videos/50647/Marvel-vs-Capcom-3-Haggar-and-Phoenix-Preview-Video/?quality=hd) video but it wouldn't show up. It's an interview with Seth Killian about Hagger and Pheonix.

The only thing I think worth mentioning is that, when Pheonix is KO'd and has 5 super bars, she is reborn as Dark Pheonix where she is one of the strongest if not the strongest character in the game. All her moves also shoot fireballs in this form but her health bar empties from full, like a timer.

Capcom is holding another contest. They want you to cut a WWE style promo about MvC3. The ten winners get a spot in some tournament and the top 3 get a copy of the game.

Also, there seems to be space for 6 more characters on the MvC3 website. One of them was given away in that review a few days ago.
