View Full Version : Bobby "The Brain" Heenan Appreciation Thread

Arguably "The Brain" one of the greatest managers/ color comentators of all time. The one thing that I loved about the brain as a commentator is that he never seemed rehearsed. You can see that years after he's retired he still has that spark and wit, even after his battle with cancer he still can call a match better than Don West.

But yeah, Bobby Heenan was the man. He always came off so passionate on camera. I wish there were a Heenan Family type stable today.

Wow. On EWR sometimes when I have a good interview segment, the guy that does the review says "I respect you, Booker Man". Now I know where it's from. Nice.

Loose Cannon

what??? you never knew that. yea, Superbrawl 96. Pillman went to ECW after that. That's where his whole Loose Cannon gimmick started to take off

Whatever dude. You don't even know who's on Smackdown RIGHT NOW.

Doesn't the 'urban legend' about all that say that Pillman convinced Bischoff that the whole "I respect you bookerman" thing was a work and that he would 'leave' and go to ECW to make it seem more real, when in fact he did that in order to get Bischoff to release him from his contract in WCW so he could wrestle elsewhere?

Loose Cannon
04-18-2010, 01:12 AM
well here's the truth behind it. That is not true.

Pillman had two offers. One from WWF and one from WCW. Pillman originaly just wanted to use the WWF to try and get more money from WCW when his contract expired.

Bischoff and Pillman has already devised a plan for his return. It was suppossed to be him and Benoit along with two other guys as the Rogue Horsemen vs Flair, Anderson and two other guys. But he saw the writing on the wall with WCW in that Hogan and co were never going to let him get ahead.

So instead he signed with Vince. And remember, this is rihgt in the middle of his car accident. One of the main reasons, along with WCW politics, that he signed with Vince was that WCW had a 90 day termination thing if you were injured and Pillman was scared this would happen to him. He had a much better deal with Vince.

redoneja
04-18-2010, 01:22 AM
Gotcha. Any reason why he went to ECW for such a short stint instead of just showing up in WWF?

Loose Cannon
04-18-2010, 01:25 AM
well he was still under contract with WCW during that stint. WCW approved him going over to futher his whole Loose Cannon gimmick. He actually appeared in WCW again right before that shitty tower of Doom Match at Uncensored. He appeared on Nitro and came out of the crowd and threw a chair at Savage  LOL, because he was so over, Hogan asked WCW to bring him back from ECW to get more heat on Hulk. Hogan got his way and they brought him back. Then Pillman said fuck this, I'm hurt, and he got out of the match

redoneja
04-18-2010, 01:29 AM
Ah ok. So that's the part about how he was supposed to leave WCW to gain more heat, but during that time he just ended up signing with Vince because of extenuating circumstances.

But back to the Bobby Heenan appreciation. If I could, I would post all of the 1992 WWF PPVs in their entirety (Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, Summerslam, Survivor Series). Heenan called all four of them and he was tremendous in each.

I loved Bobby Heenan's strategy for defeating the 1-2-3 Kid. He said something about putting out a plate of Oreo's and a glass of milk in the middle of the ring. He'd eat them and fall asleep because it was already past his bed time, or something or other.

Bobby Heenan is one of the reasons I do what I do today, which is acting. I first tuned into wrestling, specifically WWF, in the early 90s. I saw these great characters like Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior. But more than that, I became fascinated with the heels. Guys like Ted Dibiase and Mr Perfect were so fantastically evil. But the biggest heel of them all was Bobby Heenan. No matter what the bad guy did in the ring, Heenan could always justify it. And not only that, he was hilarious when he did it.

Heenan might have been the best manager of all time. But there's no question he was the best color commentator. Or, as he always insinuated, "broadcast journalist".

how can we have a heenan thread without quotes?

Skinner the alligator man was facing some jobber, and Monsoon had just described another body part.

HEENAN: How do you know all of that stuff?

MONSOON: I happen to have a particular knowledge of the human body and its workings.

HEENAN: Can I try that.

MONSOON: Be my guest.

(Skinner kicks the jobber in the stomach)

HEENAN: There's a kick to the uterus!

MONSOON: Will you stop?!

This one is more a tribute to Gorilla than Bobby, but since the two of them were such good friends for so many years I have to post this:
