View Full Version : FUTURAMA IS BACK (THIS JUNE! 7 Weeks!)

Good news, everyone!

If you're like us, you watch every rerun of Futurama on Comedy Central no matter how many times you've seen it before, though we have to say we're getting a little tired of the one on Mars with the Buggalos.

So that's why it's so nice to hear that new episodes of the sci-fi animated show will arrive on Comedy Central in June, HitFix reports:

Comedy Central sources confirm to HitFix that Thursday, June 24, at 10:00 p.m. is currently set to be the premiere of the first new half-hour episode of "Futurama" since 2003.

We're also pleased to report that the entire voice cast will be back, though there was some concern a while back that Fox was going to replace them with cheaper knockoffs or possibly robots. If they had done that, they could kiss our shiny metal asses. :)

So ... will you be tuning in??

Old news? WRONG! This is an UPDATE.

The old news was that Futurama is coming back. That was reported on October 15th, 2009.

This is an UPDATE because it'll be on in about 7 weeks.

How many episodes do you guys think it'll have? About 2 hours worth? I'm guessing around 7-9 episodes, unless they do a whole season and not half like SP does.

On June 10, 2009, Fox announced that up to twenty-six new episodes will be produced for Comedy Central.[11] However, only twelve of these episodes will air as part of the sixth season[12], with the season finale being Futurama's 100th episode.

I didn't find it too much more adult oriented. Everything they aired would have aired on Fox, honestly.

Requiem
06-28-2010, 04:00 PM
Yeah didn't find it to be more risque at all.

I just think it felt different. Not a bad different at all, but it was not as 'familiar' feeling as the show was in the past. Even the movies had more of a 'typical' Futurama feel to them, IMO.

Might just take them a couple episodes to get it back hopefully. this show.

Xero
06-28-2010, 04:12 PM
Even the movies had more of a 'typical' Futurama feel to them, IMO.

Yeah I was just thinking this yesterday.

I almost feel it comes down to them focusing more on the gags and jokes than the story in the first two episodes. The story was there, no doubt, but most Futurama episodes I watch for the story. These I'd watch more for the gags. Maybe it was weak writing or something.

They felt more akin to later Simpsons episodes than Futurama.

It's worth noting Amazon lists the episode as TV PG, and that's in keeping with the old Futurama's ratings.

Feels weird with less music, too. Then again, I'm pretty sure that's the same thing they've come to do with the Simpsons.

I feel like you're taking this position just for the sake of being different from everybody else. I haven't seen any of the new Futuramas for fear that that would suck. From what I'm reading her, there are par at best.

The first couple Episodes are very much like the old Futurama. The "cheap laughs" are the same style, the plots are not less cohesive. The next couple are like post-shark-jumping Simpsons, as in "the wacky adventures of Homer Simpson." They sacrificed both the lowbrow humour and the more intellectual level for mediocre parallels to popular culture. The jokes were at least as cheap, they just all came from "take that, pop culture subject A!"

I guess those episodes are excellent if you're looking for a linear, uninspired plot with obvious parallels so you never have to actually think about tricky things like "satire," since it's almost all about one topic and beats you over the head with it.

But BDC, as a fan of the original series, I'm pretty sure you'll be told this show isn't for you. ;)

It's been a while, but don't they get together at the end of Bender's Big Score?

Last Week's ep was pretty touching towards the end. This one was pretty good not quite the heartstring puller, but it did have its moments.

'the late philip j fry' is officially in my favourite episodes of all time list. there was something about it. i'm always a sucker for their time travel episodes ('roswell's that ends well', 'time keeps on slippin''), and this one kind of had both the humour of 'roswell' and the sweetness of 'slippin'' so i was stoked.

the whole sequence with the end of the universe was incredibly done. beautiful stuff. the stalagmites reminded me of fry's letter in the stars. farnsworth killing hitler and then drive-bying eleanor roosevelt was fantastic. bender's enthusiasm for the terminator future made me giggle immensely, as did his incredible disdain for the scantily clad woman utopia future.

good stuff. on top of the robosexuals episode previous to this, it looks like they've hit their stride again.

Did he? I thought Bender put the only copy of the code on Fry's ass in the past which was then lasered off and Bender had the code erased from his memory.

LoDownM
08-04-2010, 02:21 PM
It was, but Lars was Fry's duplicate, Bender gets it off Lars' ass and goes back to put in on Fry at Lars' funeral, so "the whole thing makes sense" as Nibbler put it.

Supreme Olajuwon
08-04-2010, 02:25 PM
Yeah but after he puts it on Fry, he doesn't have another copy of it, does he?

LoDownM
08-04-2010, 03:37 PM
He only looked at the actual code twice, every other time it was from memory, so going off that he didn't get it wiped the second time, he should be able to do it whenever he wants.

Xero

So wait, has Nibbler talked to people before without wiping their memory? Because tonight they didn't really react like it was weird that Nibbler was talking, while every other time they freaked out.

Should watch them all before casting judgement. If you've ever been a Futurama fan, at least give it a -real- shot. New ones were underwhelming at first, and picked up quickly, and are now IMO just as good as the best ones the old show had to offer

Stop doubting if I have ever been a fan of Futurama. I know all the original seasons and movies front to back. The new ones just don't seem up to the old ones.

Now I'm beginning to doubt it.

I feel that you can't suggest they aren't good until you at least give them a chance. And you haven't given them a proper chance. Seriously, they're like 20-some minutes long. You can't watch several of those before casting judgement?

Saying this because I love you BDC, and I am only looking out for your best interest. As a Futurama fan, it is in your best interest to give it a real chance. Don't know how you could disagree with that logic.

So you are saying one episode is good, therefore the entire new series is amazing? Because that is how you are sounding.

Requiem
08-12-2010, 04:00 PM
I feel that about 6 of the 8 new episodes are on par with, or better (would definitely even say some are as good as the 'best' futurama episodes). Considering there are 8 episodes out so far, I don't think it's fair to judge the revival of an old show on only 2 episodes. Or even three. It took a couple to really get the flow of the show back, and I feel that there have been several episodes which truly felt as if the show had never stopped.

Not jumping down your throat or anything. I just feel that that episode is probably my favorite of the new ones, and if there is any one that would make you want to watch the rest, it would be that one because it may just restore your faith in the writers.

BigDaddyCool
08-12-2010, 04:02 PM
I don't believe the 2 I've seen are the first of the new ones, therefore they weren't the first couple that took it to get it flowing again. These two that I have seen should have been on par with the old episodes according to your logic. They were not, and I am giving them a fair chance when I was watching.

Requiem

Yeah, because me admitting that some of them weren't up to par, is me blindly sucking Futurama's cock. Never once insinuated that it is without fault. Ever. At all. Never said that.

I was trying to convince him to give it a real chance, not to fuck it up the ass like it's going to be the best sex he's ever had.

Also can't believe you don't realize you're doing practically the exact thing you're accusing me of, but on the opposing argument. Blindly raging against someone who doesn't share the opinion that new Futurama is bad. I don't think it is bad, or at least 'anywhere near as bad' as you've been trying to make it out to be. Hell, you don't even think they're all bad, if there's any truth to your previous posts in this thread. So what do you do? Insult up one side and down the other, something I at least managed to avoid this time. Sorry not everyone shares your cynical views on the quality of a cartoon.

To be fair, the episode you referenced was forgettable. Can't really blame me for not paying attention.

I have a feeling that's going to be an "average" episode, though. Unremarkable, mildly funny. There are worse episodes and better ones, but I think the bottom line is that this will be the "standard."

Requiem
08-13-2010, 03:19 PM
Not sure what you mean by dishonest, as nothing in the post you replied to could be construed as such. He's not willing, in my opinion, to give it a real shot. So he'll be oblivious to any episodes which were good, because of his refusal to watch them, and will keep thinking Futurama has failed in its return.

He can claim that he never said he wont watch more, but before saying that, he flat out refused to watch any others, and is basing the entire reboot on the quality of 2 episodes he watched. If he is going to watch more later, then he is just being a stubborn ass who was purposely creating an argument by not giving the current ones a shot. That's all it comes down to. Either he's going to watch them anyways, making his whole struggle to refuse watching them null and void (meaning this was confrontation for the sake of confrontation), or he's never going to watch them again, and I'll gladly consider him an ass for basing his whole opinion of the reboot on 2 episodes.

BigDaddyCool

Hasney, did you give it a proper chance if you ever were a real futuramamamamamama fan?

Requiem
08-13-2010, 03:23 PM
Seriously though, with as many episodes as there are of Futurama, I can't believe that BDC liked them all. I certainly didn't, and I think the show is fantastic on the whole. So how do 2 episodes define a show's comeback? Hell, they got picked up for 26 episodes, and there have only been 9 shown, and there will only be 13 this season. There's still way too much time left to have your panties so far up your ass to where you'd refuse to watch it if you liked it in the past.

BigDaddyCool

My single point has stayed the same from the start. The fact that I have restated the exact same fucking thing multiple times, in nearly the same words, makes it mind-blowing that you are unable to follow it. But maybe I shouldn't be surprised. KK's brain-slug comment was probably on the money.

Considering your method of arguing tends to always follow the "play stupid until it frustrates the other person" strategy, I should have seen this coming the moment you got hostile about my rep.

Started with a completely non-argumentative suggestion that you watch more, and you turned it down the path of an argument with your very next post. For no reason. Seriously. What the fuck, BDC? You responded as if I was attacking you from the very start. Hell, just re-reading that page makes it sound more and more like you were on the verge of an emo-rage-fit, and I just happened to be the person who was in the way when it happened.

Post #148? Come on, completely uncalled for at that point, and I don't care if it sounds whiney of me to point it out. Nothing up to that point was rage-worthy, but somehow I get slapped with the 'nerdboy rage' shtick.

Edit: I'm also sick and in an absolutely horrible mood because my entire upper body is aching and congested, and I still managed to not blow up at how big of an idiot you've been. /spazz
