View Full Version : Orlando Jordan's new gimmick so far...

I read up on OJ's match at Sacrifice and he came down on a trapeze? What do you think of the Orlando's gimmick so far? I feel it's kinda "cheap", the way he uses the fact that he's gay to be a heel. It doesnt seem like he has any real depth to it, just another verson of Adrian Adonis/ Goldust (He just happens to actually be gay). I read something about how Kanyon wanted to be an openly gay wrestler and have it "not be a gimmick". He would just have it known that he's openly gay, but have the focus being on the fact that he is a wrestler not his personal life. OJ just seems to want the oposite with the reason he's getting TV time is for shock value (which isnt really that shocking anymore)

He's not gay, he's Bi. Jeeze

But seriously his gimmick is pretty fucking gay

Was going to make a thread about this and realized there was one already made. I don't like to give TNA credit for really anything but this Orlando Jordan deal has been really entertaining the past couple of weeks. It's bizarre enough to pique interest and OJ has gotten MUCH better since his stint in the E machine. I could actually see him going somewhere in TNA if he continues this way.

I think him being gay is only a small part of the gimmick as a whole, TBH.

Excuse me then bi. I just assumed with him pop shoting himself with lotion and doing a flirting interview with a Rob Tery cutout I forgot he was bi (although the cutout gave the best interview I've seen from Rob Tery)

LOL I actually like this gimmick a whole lot (Narc comparing me to OJ aside)

Although if anyone noticed he is actually more Adrian street than goldust meaning hes not as overtly sexual in ring as the goldust character and when the bell rings unlike Goldy his flamboyancy is largely thrown out the window and hes far more aggressive and vicious when he wrestles.

If that's "cheap" then wouldn't also be cheap to...

use the fact that you're a foreigner to be a heel (http://legendsrevealed.com/entertainment/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/aahf154_8x10-no350.jpg)

use the fact that you're rich to be a heel (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_aYgYnqqagB4/S7tC6XqcErI/AAAAAAAAAvM/ZyAwktpM7JQ/s1600/bling_4.jpg)

use the fact that you think you're better looking than everyone to be a heel (http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x310/The_Ultimate_Wrestling_Gallery/Rick%20Rude/RickRude037.jpg)

use the fact that you're straight edge to be a heel (http://sportsmedia.ign.com/sports/image/article/748/748635/cm-punk-interview-20061201101617463-000.jpg)

I like the fact that he has a vicious side in the ring. I could do without the Lady Gaga esque presentation though. I liked how he was when he first came in with the suit. I would've pushed him as a smooth bisexual player type with a vicious heel streak.

It does to people still stuck in the 1930s i.e. probably a lot of TNAs fan base

Even if it doesn't shock, it still makes a lot of people uncomfortable, which sometimes is just as effective.

The only thing that bugs me is the loss of OJs companions I think they would've gone a long way in getting him over as a heel.

Naw, the Goldust gimmick was brilliant. He wasn't gay, he just outright did things to make people uncomfortable and to make his opponent question what he might do next.

gay/bi/straight doesn't matter - I hate it. Orlando Jordan was an awesome athelete and wrestler. He spends all his time in the ring trying to remain mysterious and unusual that he has lost about 70% of his ability. He is solely focused on his character which, in my eyes, is making him care less about the actual action.

I hate it.

Nark Order

I disagree actually. I think he's been rather solid in the ring and he's more in shape than he's ever been. He's a complete package now IMO.

Narc wants to turn into a little ball and live inside Orlando Jordan's package. You just wanna live in there..and when Orlando feels a little tickle...He'll just know that it's you....up inside his mangina.

Was hoping to see the interview by Lawler where he fumbles around with asking Goldust if he's queer to which 'dust simply says "no" before laying Lawler out.

But loling at this vid - 2:00 mark "Dok Hendrix" doing his best Don West impersonation.

I like Orlando Jordan more than most. Even when he was in the WWE. The guy is far from a terrible worker. He can contruct a decent match every night of the week, and he can cut a decent promo. He's never been outstanding, granted, but he always had the potential to be a solid hand. I'm disappointed we never got OJ laying out JBL with a right hand and turning face against his former employer.

I haven't seen much of OJ's new character, but I liked what I did see. He seems more "alive" than he has been in previous roles. Jordan is showing that he can come out and command the spotlight, and not just be "a guy." He's setting himself apart one way or another. If he can have some great matches, and actually do some meaningful shit, I don't see why he cannot evolve into an important player in professional wrestling.

As for the gimmick itself: I get the vibe he is meant to be ironic. Similarly to how Goldust used homophobia and people's prejudices to get in his opponent's head -- OJ acts out in a "do you think all bisexual people do this? Really?" That he is making such a worn-out statement is why I consider him a heel. We get it Orlando, we really do.

I'd personally take him as TNA Global Champion over Rob Terry (which is where I hope this feud with him is going).

I have a question.

Why was that whole copy of Lady Gaga "police tape" so controversial?

Speaking of EY, that's who I feel sorry for during this whole gimmick. I liked the change of pace of him being the calculating and ruthless leader of W/E before he devolved into chicken shit heel, and now back to "Don't Fire Eric" batshit crazy face. He's nothing more than Jordan's comedy relief now.

Jordan about to undergo a character change in the next couple of months(more outlandish than the stuff going on now.....what the character was supposed to originally be. Knowing him and the guy who is helping him like I do I think it'll be great tv).
