Ripping DVD's?

How can I do it? Is it like ripping CD's? Or do I need some kinda special program? I friend of mine can do it but didn't think to ask how. Wanna put some DVD's on my portable hard drive for when I move to Germany. :wave:

But the one I use is a cracked version of DVDFab 5, but it's only free if you torrent it.
