Bumping this, because it is 2011 now, and I just found this out.

For the project, WBA will collaborate with noted Japanese animation Studio4°C (“The Animatrix,” “Gotham Knights”), who will update the characters' look for the series.

"Thundercats" will be executive produced by Sam Register (“Teen Titans,” “Ben 10,” “Batman: The Brave and the Bold”), with Michael Jelenic (“Batman: The Brave and the Bold,” “Wonder Woman”) and Ethan Spaulding (“Avatar: The Last Airbender”) as producers.

Some pretty great credentials there. Also, recently read an interview with one of those two guys, and it seemed like he genuinely wanted to do it justice. No surprise, given what he's been a part of.

Also, he said it will be a bit darker, and deal with more complex and mature storylines, but not to the point where the charm of the original is lost.

So yeah, really looking forward to this. Although whatever they do for the intro, will undoubtedly fail to live up to the original. That's okay though. I wouldn't expect it to.

And for everyone knocking on thundercats villains, you can make fun of the moon people. They sucked. I'll even let you slide when making fun of the mutants, despite the fact that they served their purpose just fine. But don't you dare diss Mumm-ra in my presence.

That'd be an awesome show. Throw in a tragic/dark character like Bushroot's daughter (all sorts a shit could be done there for that origin story) and there we go.

I was never a fan of the original show, but the reboot is really freaking good. The animation is top-notch (I'd say on par with Avatar: The Last Airbender), the voice acting is great, I really like the character designs, and it does look like it'll set up an epic (properly epic, not internet-epic) adventure series.

Really hoping this show catches on.

The love triangle was the first sign. Kinda started to lose interest in it. Then yesterday Lion-O got burned again.

Cat's Lair wasn't built, the Thundertank became a motor home. Got lame. Needed more campyness.

It's a shame this got axed and nobody else wanted to take it up nor has there been any ambitious animators on the net willing to finish the series off.

Overall it was ok but never a patch on the original and always difficult to "not compare" as such. What I loved about the original was the fact that the Thundercats used their skills and intelligence to beat their enemies and there was often a moral story in each episode. This time around the Thundercats have been painted out as unintelligent, immature and backward thinking.

There was much humour in the original especially with the mutants but all that was pretty much erased this time around with the reboots of Monkian and Jackalman being rather disturbingly psychotic and sadistic.

The new tried to be too cool that it ultimately failed and given that the vast majority of viewers were going to be fans of the old show, they shouldn't have diverged too much from the original concpets. For example with Pummyra turning evil and wanting to kill Lion-O, that was impossible in the original story arch and wouldn't have made sense for her to be angry because Lion-O didn't hear her faint calls for help beneath the rubble.

Finally and a criticism of both series, I hated how it was impossible to ever truly defeat Mumm-Ra. Sure he was meant to be "ever living" but if there was a way for him to become that then surely there must have been a way to take that away? In that sense the Thundercats were never truly going to defeat him and he would keep coming back again and again and again.
