Let's settle this once and for all.
Which retro fab four takes the cake?

Let's see... a ghost hunting crew that's essentially a comedic analogy of working men being important to society, or giant turtles who were initially badass but then tailored to sell lunchboxes by the billions...
Gonna go with Mummies Alive!.

I was never really a Ghostbusters fan as a kid.
I was, however, a huge Ninja Turtles fan.
-The films
-The original cartoons
-The reboot cartoons
-The toys
-The videogames
-The children
All of the Ninja Turtles versions are just generally better in my opinion. Especially the Original Cartoons and The Videogames. The Toys were pretty kick-ass and inventive also.

I actually kind of liked Extreme Ghostbusters. The new cast wasn't exactly great, especially how over the top PC it was. Still, it had a tone that was pretty consistent with the original. Keeping Egon and Slimer around obviously helped.
I remember when the original cast returned for a major episode. That was great.

Things to think about:
-The films: Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II are probably better films than the Ninja Turtles films. However, the first two Turtles films probably played a bigger part in my childhood and hold greater nostalgic value for me. The third Turtles film I barely remember, and I never saw the newest one.
-The original cartoons: No contest here. Loved the Ghostbusters, but they were no Ninja Turtles.
-The reboot cartoons: Never really watched any reboot cartoons. Saw a few episodes of the modern TMNT series, and it seemed pretty good.
-The toys: No doubt about it, Ninja Turtles had this one as well.
-The videogames: I think the only Ghostbusters game I ever played was Ghostbuster II for the PC and it was pretty much impossible to beat. I still loved to play it as a kid though. Turtles wins this one too though. "Who turned out the lights" - 'Nuff said
-The children: Not sure what this means.
So, Final Verdict: Ninja Turtles easily wins in every aspect except for the films.
No question. Ghostbusters.

Thinking of the children, I would want to expose my children to the original Ninja Turtles cartoon as soon as possible so that they can learn the fundamentals of kung-fu fighting and the nutritious deliciousness of pizza.

I'm voting overall, and not really using this criteria. I figured I'd do it up though since other people were
-The films: Easily Ghostbusters. I do love the first Ninja Turtles movie, but Ghostbusters by far.
-The original cartoons- Probably a tie
-The reboot cartoons- I liked Extreme Ghostbusters well enough. The new Ninja Turtles seems good but was past my time. I'll give TMNT benefit of the doubt and call this a tie.
-The toys- Ninja Turtles wins this. Ghostbusters toys were no slouch, but the Ninja Turtles toy line was pretty incredible.
-The videogames- Ninja Turtles probably had this locked up until recently. The TMNT and Ghostbusters game on NES were all pretty awful. Ninja Turtles had the awesome beat em up arcade games though.
The Ghostbusters video game that came out last year was so incredible that I have to award them the points.
-The children- I liked Ghostbusters more as a kid, and I like them more as an adult.

Amazing game.
I was never really "into" the Turtles as a kid. Sure, I saw the movies, watched the cartoon sometimes and had a few toys, but I always preferred the Ghostbusters franchise. I actually didn't have any Ghostbusters toys, though I had the NES games.
The Turtles' games are easily superior to any and all Ghostbusters games, outside of the current gen one, which is easily the best movie-based video game ever made.
Even taking everything into account and taking my personal bias out of the equation, I think the Ghostbusters win on the first movie alone.

Turtles would have won this hands down as a kid. Now Ghostbusters wins because the films are the only thing that I would factor into my decision. I'm going to vote for TMNT because I think overall in my life I spent more time playing with or watching Turtle-related things than Ghostbuster things.

-The films
Ghostbusters 1=:y:
Ghostbusters 2=:y:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles=:y:
TMNT 2: Secret of the Ooze=:y:
TMNT 3=:n:
Winner=Ghostbusters, because they didn't make a lesser 3rd movie, yet.
-The original cartoons
Ghostbusters was a great cartoon while growing up, but there's only so much you can do with the "paranormal" and what have you.
TMNT was just amazing. It caught me from the start and kept me hooked for years on end. Granted it's harder to find the original TMNT cartoon on dvd than it is Ghostbusters, it still takes the cake.
Winner=TMNT
-The reboot cartoons
WARNING INCOMING GAME??
-The toys
Ghostbusters had some fun toys. The PKE meter, the proton pack, the firehouse playset, but as far as characters went, it was kind of limited.
TMNT had a shit ton of toys. Every turtle had at least 20-30 variations whether it was beach squirters, undercover, transforming cars, movie stars, wind'em up action, mutating, past warriors, or what have you. Plus they had tons of supporting characters to go with it. Also, Usagi Yojimbo=fucking win!
Winner=TMNT
-The videogames
Ghostbusters on the NES was a real bitch, but the game that came out last year on next gen was just brilliance IMO. Even if the multiplayer is dead as shit and the game is glitched to where you can't get all the most wanted ghosts, I absolutely love that game.
TMNT on the NES was a pain in the dick. Those damned underwater bombs were bullshit. However, Turtles in Time (the snes version not that xbla shit), TMNT 1989 Arcade, and TMNT Tournament Fighters were just badass.

The first Ninja Turtles movie is probably my favorite all time. The turtles are inherently awesome, and the movie had a gritty feeling to it that I think they moved away from in the second and third movies. The first film had a nice blend of comedy and bad assness to the turtles. Ghostbusters is a classic flick in its own right, but turtles hands down.
Huge fan of the turtles cartoon growing up, toys, etc. Love them. Turtles ftw.

Original cartoon: Pretty sure Ghostbusters was a Saturday morning cartoon, while TMNT was a weekday afternoon show, so everything else being equal, Turtles gets the nod based on volume.

Original cartoon: Season 1 of GB was probably the best group of episodes between both shows, but then they changed Venkman to Dave Coulier and made Slimer the focus and the show took a rough hit. Consistency goes to Turtles, while peak goes to GB
New cartoon: they were both pretty bad
Toys: Ghostbusters: Trap, Proton Pack, the ectos, the firehouse
Video games: Tough call, though I really loved the new Ghosbusters game so ill give the nod to GB
Societal impact: Ghostbusters for sure
Movies: GB easy
Sexy Halloween costumes: Id much rather see girls dressed as a sexy GB than a sexy turtle
Vllians: Shredder/Krang/etc vs Gozer/Staypuft/random ghosts. Tough call on this one. Ill call it a draw
Overall: GB

Ninja Turtles are from my hometown, by the way. Watch the news broadcast at the beginning of TMNT 2. April O'Neil says, "reporting live from Bayonne, New Jersey," which is the origin of the ooze.

I never got the attraction of slime. The only slime thing I had was some ninja turtles vehicle thing. I used the slime like... once and it got ruined and I was just "Great. What now?" even as a kid.
First off, I went with TMNT, but only by the narrowest of margins. And I believe the whole '80s-mid '90s craze with sliming everything on TV being the 'in thing to do' may have very well had a lot to do with Ghostbusters and TMNT, I believe the TV series You Can't Do That on Television was the pioneer of the sliming antics, as the show itself dates back to '79, a year or so before they even hit Nickelodeon...and as I'm sure most of us know, the slime would be dumped on any poor, unfortunate soul stupid or forgetful enough to utter the words "I don't know". It's my belief that once Nick started making this show they were naturally aware of this and the gag the show also had of dumping water on anyone who said the word "water", and as such, decided sliming people was so popular with the show's young audience that they decided to make it a staple of their most famous kids shows.

The Films
Both films had incredible movies to be honest. Whilst today I think the Ghostbusters ones hold up better, the TMNT ones are a HUGE part of my childhood, and the nostalgia still makes them awesome films, including the third one. Haven't seen all of the CGI one, but it seemed alright what I saw of it.
The Original Cartoons
Turtles win this one no doubt. Easily one of the greatest cartoon series of all time, and pretty much my obsession for the first few years of my life. The GB cartoon was also cool, but I seem to remember there being a billion more Turtles cartoons, and the GB's just couldn't touch that. Plus the Turtles had a much bigger cast of characters/allies/enemies etc, which made for more varied episodes.
The Reboot Cartoons
Haven't seen too much of either to be honest. Didn't really like Extreme Ghostbusters (that's the GB reboot in question right?), and I didn't get to see many episodes of TMNT, however, the episodes I did see were pretty good, and pretty loyal to the more ninja-esque aspects of the Turtles. The Turtles Forever animated movie was incredible though, whilst the Extreme meet the Real Ghostbusters was kinda crap.
The Toys
I'd have to go with Turtles again. Whilst GB toys were cool, there wasn't really much to go for compared to Turtles. Turtles had EVERYTHING! No doubt the GB house was an awesome playset (ditto the slime complaints) and the photon pack/ghost trap were good fun back in the day. The Turtles though... wow... the sewer lair, the blimp, the Technodrome, the fugures and a billion different versions, such as movie stars, horror stars, space, surf, ninjas, movies... holy shit.
The videogames
Can't really comment here. Only game I've played was this one:

The children
I'd imagine the Ghostbusters children would be better looking, and how would the Turles ever have kids anyway? I doubt April O'Neil would put up for them. However, if the Turtles could have children, they'd end up looking like Franklin, so the Turtles get this one.

In conclusion, the Turtles get my vote. The Ghostbusters were awesome back in the day, but the TMNT pretty much WAS my life throughout my childhood. I miss such innocent times... :(

I loved it as a kid. And still feel nostalgic watching it today.

I definitely hated it as a kid. It's the only one I never owned on VHS and only remember seeing a couple times, tops.
It's pretty bad when a 7 year old obsessed with the Ninja Turtles thinks the movie is a pile of garbage. That's a true barometer of how it was a failure on every level.

The TNMT 3 VHS was given a fitting death by the Angry Video Game nerd as it was sworded to death.
I think there should have been a tie/can't decide for this poll.

This should be Ghostbusters all the way.
