View Full Version : I'm pretty let down by some of the season 2 NXTers

I thought that Henning and Harris would have impressed right off the bat and really shinned among the rest, both being third generation wrestlers, you would think that this would come naturally. I didn't watch any of their work in FCW and was unaware of their talents (or lack thereof) until this season of NXT began.

I expected alot out of these two and so far I have been very underwhelmed by both their in ring abilities and thier charisma (especially with Henning). I know that we are working with a limited portfolio of work, but with that said, how do you feel about these two rookies?

Honestly, Henning comes out on the stage each time and does this ridiculous scream/arm strech pose thing and for fucks sake, thats all the son of Mr. Perfect can come up with.

I agree Testicle, I was rather disappointed with Harris last night. The potential with Hennig is there. But then again, I wouldn't judge too harshly based off of what we see on NXT too much. I mean.. they did make Danielson lose every.. single... match.

You know, I thought it was spelt "Henning" too for like about 5 minutes when I was about 11.

I thought Harris' match was ok... He looked worn out & tired the last few minutes... So far I think Hennig has look pretty damn good... That neckbreaker is pretty cool ... But that Fat Senton has got to go...

Percy Watson is fucking tremendous as is Kaval of course. I like Eli Cottonwood and Riley, and I also like Harris a bit and Hennig. O'Neil, and Cannon I could do without

Why do you like an Indy jobber like Kaval?

Husky's match with MVP was terrible. WTF was going on there?

Why do you like a mainstream jobber like Danielson?

Harris kind of looks like he puts GHB in women's drinks though

my thoughts on the season 2 NXT crew:

Eli Cottonwood - My favorite. He is huge and serviceable upon contract. A big man with a fierce look who wrestles pretty well for a newb.....Easily could be the monster heel that RAW is needing.

Lucky Cannon - Totally boring. Horrid name. I want him to go away next.

Husky Harris - Overrated. His face and bodytype are horridly unattractive and his in ring skills/ move set don't do much for me. Kinda let down with him.

Percy Watson - He is ripping off like 3 different Eddie Murphy characters but who cares? He is possibly the best in a WWE ring and is a good talker.

Kaval - I have went back and watched some of his previous work in the indies. He was AMAZING. So far in WWE I'm not so sure he really fits...Everyone knows that WWE have strict rules on in ring manuevers and guys like Kaval seeem watered down and like he lost his edge....some guys should stay independent workers but I'm glad he is in WWE and HOPEFULLY he will start to shine like I know he can.

Michael McGillicutty - Horrible name. Good worker. Really hope he sticks around to develope a moveset that is more enjoyable but I like his size and what not.

Alex Riley - He should get a job out of this. His gimmick is progressing and his in ring skills are good enough to keep him around.. I see possibly the next Miz or Morrison in him.

So overall rankings currently look like this:

1. Percy Watson
2. Eli Cottonwood
3. Alex Riley
4. Kaval
5. Michael McGillicutty
6. Husky Harris
7. Lucky Cannon

Joe Hennig is no Mr. Perfect to me his style is very different and maybe this is why some peeps thinks he is lacks but in some aspects he's better. Husky Harris has grown on me a little but the huge problem I have is that he's way to babyfaced and turning him heel was such a great move. Don't think either will win the competion I think that honor will go to Kaval or Alex Riley but only time will tell who get biggest drawer will be.

Husky is not suitable for a singles run. Ever. Make him go away until his brother's back from whatever injury and then he can have a shot as a team.

Eli is terrible. He's got that stalker or possibly rapist look going, but his promos do absolutely nothing to back the only thing he's got that works even slightly, so he's nothing.

Lucky isn't even worth comment. Good try with getting that shirt so fast, though.

McGillicutty will be fine as soon as he gets a big boy name.

Alex Riley and Percy Watson are ready to go to the main roster right now.

Kaval's a small man who hits people very hard and has a scary low voice. With giggling girls to torment him, he's got the awesome of a least two wrestlers at once.

Kaval, Joe Hennig, Lucky Cannon, Percy Watson, and Alex Riley are good. I actually am more impressed with this group than Season 1. I only liked Danielson, Gabriel and Barrett. I don't know why everyone is down on Lucky Cannon. I think he is pretty decent in the ring. The only ones I don't like are Husky Harris and Eli Cottonwood. Harris reminds me of Trevor Murdoch and I know the IWC loved him but I thought he was awful. Cade was the talent of that team and Eli well not much needs to be said. I actually liked Titus O' Neal too only because he reminded me of Michael Jordan for some reason but I can say I like him a hell of a lot better than Michael Tarver.

On a sidenote: I wish WWE or TNA for that matter would sign Tommy Suede. That was the first time I saw Low-Ki/Senshi/Kaval. The guy was a great wrestler and he should be in the big time. He did Shooting Star Presses/450 Splashes and was a great technical guy. He wrestled for WXW. Nobody has ever heard of that promotion to anyone I talk to. They also had a good wrestler named Supreme Lee Great who I liked. Manu was there early on as Afa Jr. He was skinnier and he had great matches. This was in 2001/2002 by the way. Both Tommy Suede and SLG were in The Wrestler. Tommy Suede is the wrestler The Ram fights in the beginning with the mohawk and SLG is the referee at the end.

I am loving the NXT 2 guys.

Alex Riley: This guy gets it. He can talk, and he's not bad in the ring. His character seems a bit silly, but when you break it down it makes more sense. He's just reminding everyone of the high school bully, because that's who he wants to be. I think he'll go places and be a serviceable addition to either roster.

Eli Cottonwood: Gotta be honest, not the biggest fan. I don't expect classics out of the guy or anything, but he's just there. His "character" seems so forced. I'd like him more if he was just playing a big guy with personality or whatever. I like the Reverse Chokeslam as a finisher, but he makes it seem really awkward. I'm sure there's a role for him somewhere, but he needs to be doing the right thing for me to care. When he is eliminated, I'd like to see him turn on John Morrison, and start a mini-feud on RAW which Morrison wins, to give his Pro a boost.

Husky Harris: I've been surprised by him. I haven't seen his match with MVP yet, but everything else has been decent. I heard he was still green, but he seems to be playing a really interesting character. He's got this "babyfaced killer" thing going on about him. They were trying reverse psychology to get him over. I would not mind seeing him on SmackDown! as the Rufus to Cody Rhodes' Chris Jericho until his brother is ready to come up and team with him.

Kaval: The Warrior's Way is fucking brutal. That is all.

Lucky Cannon: I'm sure I've heard this guy is a good worker. I'm yet to see it out of him, but the WWE is really trying to get him over as a plucky underdog babyface. The whole concept of being "lucky" just sucks, though. Put him over as someone who gets by on his talents and I may just care.

Michael McGillicutty: I don't get why people are down on him. I've enjoyed him thoroughly. When he's on the mic, he's constantly saying the right things. He's a guy who knows how everything works, and doesn't do anything badly. I actually think he'd be my pick to win the whole thing.

Percy Watson: This guy has surprised me the most. He's so entertaining. He's just got that potential to get over. In the ring, he may not be the greatest, but he's never boring. I imagine he'll get a fair way in this competition, too, and if it comes down to the fans, he might just win.

Titus O'Neil really was terrible, he somehow became a parody of himself within just three weeks. If you're gonna come last.... make it a win.

Cottonwood is your typical seven footer, not really a fan.

Watson is entertaining and could be huge in the midcard, I can't see him winning this but he will make the final four and he's already over so he's worth keeping around.

Hennigycutty is great and really has attention to detail, he just has a terrible name. I kind of want him to win, rename himself Joe Perfect and start busting out the Perfectplex. That's not going to happen but he's still a contender.

Kaval. Double stomp. Nuff said.

Lucky Cannon is pretty bland, if they really want to go with a lucky gimmick it should be on a comedy face who is made to look like a terrible wrestler (Santino style) or a cocky heel where everything seems to go his way. The only luck he's had so far is that Watsons keg carry clock suddenly went into fast forward as he crossed the line.

To me Riley is a version of The Miz, I've not really got into his character but it's not that he's not bad he just doesn't stand out from his pro.

I like Husky, his senton looks like it fucking hurts. Sure he's probably better suited to tag team work or shorter matches but if that shouldn't be a problem if they send him to Raw.

My take:

1. Michael McGillicutty
2. Kaval
3. Husky Harris
4. Percy Watson
5. Alex Riley
6. Lucky Cannon
7. Eli Cottonwood

The first time Low Ki hits the Warrior's Way on WWE television, this competition is over.

Also I really like Hennig. He's got a classic wrestling style. He might never be a main eventer, but I will watch him wrestle.

I can see him in the role of a "Working Heel." As in the Guy who the next top face goes against right before facing the Champion. He could be booked as enough of a threat that he can be in a Main Event here and there, to make whatever face champion look like a Million Bucks.

I've only seen the 1st and lastest episodes of NXT2 so that i what my judgement is based on...

Titus: Fucked up massively on the mic in ep1 and compounded that by going head over heels with the keg. A guy his size should make that look easy. He's basically Zeke Jackson 0.5. Glad he's gone.

Eli Cottonwood: He has an "interesting" look but for me it doesn't seem threatening enough. The industry's big men have pretty much always had bulk with their height (Taker, Kane, Big Show, even Gonzalez by comparison) and Eli doesn't have the necessary beef to compete. Maybe as a comedy character on Raw but we have Khali for that.

Kaval: Last ep was the first time I've got a look at the in-ring work of WWE Kaval, pretty impressive in the short time he had in the ring. Suprised they let him brak out the Warrior's Way (even if he didn't hit it perfectly).

Lucky Cannon: Didn't form an opinion on him after ep1, still haven't. Meh.

Husky Harris: Seems a bit startled when he's out in the arena, comes across as very green. His ring work is OK though. As many have said, maybe as a side-ick or tag team partner. Just like his dad I suppose. Were we really expecting a wrestling great from the loins of Irwin R. Shyster!?

Michael McGuillicutty: Haven't really seen his ring stuff but being the son of Mr perfect is a huge shadow to be in. He's kinda damned either way. He comes out as a Perfect rip-off and gets shit on by the IWC for "not being worthy of the name/as good as his dad" or he doesn't and we moan about that fact.

Alex Riley: Really impressed me in ep1 but didn't get much screen time in this latest episode. The character is so easy to hate though, can see him going far.

"Showtime" Percy Jackson: I loved this guy from ep1 and his vignette Tuesday made me feel the same way. It's blatantly a midcard gimmick but there's no arm in that. He'll jump to the main roster I should think.
