Although I highly doubt this is legit, if it is true, Vince is loosing it.

- There is a rumor that Vince McMahon has called for a ban on backhand chops in the ring due to their visual connection with Ric Flair (and proclivity to inspire the crowd to chant “woo”). WWE does not want any clear references to Ric Flair on its programming.

I can actually see that. Probably the reason AA cut that promo on Monday calling Steamboat the best he's ever seen.

I hated the chops anyways. Alot of wrestlers hated them too, well taking them.

Chops are gay.

Hmm...kinda feel divided about this. On the one hand they're not essential, and more for show than anything. But on the other hand, compared to other moves the guys (and divas) take, a chop probably feels like being tickled with a feather, so if it's true there may be people who think banning such a minor move is overkill, but I wouldn't really miss it that much. The only chops besides Flair's which were ever interesting to me anyway were Show's, especially back when he used to do the "SHH!" thing before slapping some poor guy's chest so everyone could hear the sickening "WHAP!" and be amazed, or at least feign it.

Can't help but think it's also in part that Benoit used the move alot too.

The full name of the move is a Knife Edge Chop. Knives are not PG.

I don't have a problem with banning a move for a legit reason, like safety, for example. If true, the reason for banning chops seems absurd and ridiculous IMO. Though it is "sports entertainment", so I guess I shouldn't be so surprised.

And maybe because it's true.

They're not 'chops' anyway...they're slaps.

Only problem is 'Knife Edge Bitch Slap' sounds gay.

I don't know about elsewhere, but most wrestlers around here already avoid doing chops out of respect to Flair. It might be less a case of "don't remind them of Flair," and more of general practices catching up to the big leagues. No idea, though--like I said, it could just be a local thing.

Also, I hate chops. But that's neither here nor there.

I have seen Flair draw blood on an opponent with chops. (El Gigante, if you're wondering)

And I am pretty sure Samoa Joe STILL remembers those chops Kobashi gave him. (they burst blood vessels in his chest.)

chops and slams are like apples and oranges.

That sucks. I think it's a case of "don't remind them of Flair," which is bullshit. If I was there, I would use Shinya Hashimoto's overhead chops.

I hear they're going to ban wrestling moves and just have the guys debate each other. They may be allowed to play each other in Left 4 Dead 2 Versus mode for the PPVs though.

I couldn't care less either way, but if it was really because of Flair then it's a bitch thing to do on Vince's part.

This is all Linda's fault for trying to distance herself from wrestling.
