View Full Version : I'm looking for a game sort of like Diablo...

Okay... I don't know. Me and my friend used to play Diablo II together a lot, and it was really fun just dicking around and levelling up and all that jolly good fun stuff.
After a few years though, the game just got kind of boring. It's fun to load up and play for about an hour or so still, but we want something new.
I don't really keep track of a whole lot of games that I don't normally play, mainly just looking for info on games by my favourite designers and whatnot. So I'm kind of in the dark here. Basically, I want a game sort of like Diablo. Like a game with RPG-ish elements, but kind of fast-paced. Just something new (not a new game, just one I haven't played :p) that we can spend the next couple of months dicking around in.
I know Baldur's Gate is a popular RPG game, but I myself have never played it. Would that be something that I'm looking for? If not, can anyone help me out here? Just looking for something new to try out.
Planescape: Torment is suppose to be a pretty good game. It's back from '99 so if you play it, don't expect incredible graphics or anything. :p
Also, I think you're probably looking for something like Baulder's Gate. I haven't played it myself either but I hear it's a great game and from the reviews it sounds a lot like Diablo.
Also, Darkstone and Icewind Dale. Black Isle Studios is a great RPG developer. Was at least. I'd say you would be quite happy with Planescape though.

Darkstone is good, and is close to the same type of game. Try dungeon siege also.

Neverwinter Nights.
I don't know how good it is. Never played it, seen my friends play it, just like Diablo.

Yeah I posted this same question at another forum too, and a few people recommended Neverwinter Nights and Dungeon Seige. I'll probably try Neverwinter out first, see how I like that, then check out some of the others.
What's this Darkstone game like? I've never heard of it. :o
Darkstone is practically Diablo but with more features.
Neverwinter Nights is a pretty good game. I had it for a while and it was pretty fun.

Umm just to warn you, NWN and DS are very different from Diablo. I am soon to try them out again...but from what I have played in the past, they are long and drawn out. Dungeon Siege dungeons are neverending....and I'm not exaggerating. Baldur's Gate never caught my attention either. They are all based off of D&D type stats.
They are all worth trying however.

Now if you don't mind it being handheld, The Two Towers and Return of the King for GBA are a complete ripoff of diablo in every way. Its actually alot of fun. Like 6 characters you can play.

My brother bought a game called "Sacred" and loves. It is similar to Diablo.

Also, Nox is a very watered down version of Diablo. Maybe not the greatest game in the world, but I had alot of fun playing it.
Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is pretty good from what I hear.

Ok I've been reading some pretty good stuff abotu Sacred today...which is a bradn new game which has drawn a considerable amount of its material from Diablo. I'm actually gonna download it and check it out.
God I popped NWN back in today. My lord, do the people you talk with ever shut up? I can't stand this game for more than 30 minutes of time because I want to level up my character and not be up to my neck with text. Too much to worry about in that game IMO. I like the idea of controlling one person. Diablo style.

What are the system specs on this Sacred game? Since it's new and all, I want to make sure both of our PC's can actually run the game... :o

Dungeon Siege gets old fast.
Way too repetitive. Even for a hack and slash.
I can recommend you a good single player RPGish type game. We wont see you on the boards for weeks.
It's called Gothic.
Expect to die alot. Remember to save alot.
Download it because it's not in stores.
Link, Ninti? Or is it some game I will have to get off suprnova or something.

Suprnova.
It's a german developers game but it has an English patch.

It's awesome.
You start out with practically no skills and you can barely even kill things.
You have to run around alot towards the beginning from even weak creatures.
Eventually, you start getting really good and you dominate towards the end.
You can kill all the NPC's towards the end if you wanted to.
Then you can choose who you want to join, who you want to steal from, who you want to friend.
Total freedom. It's as non-linear as it gets when it comes to games.
Meet Fable on X-Box before Fable was even spoken about.
There is also Gothic 2 out right now. I am currently working on that game. It's way harder than the first but it's very satisfying.
I recommend this game to all RPG buffs.

That does sound like a good game, Ninti. Only problem is though, you mentioned it was single-player. :-\
I'm just looking for game, probably exactly like that, that me and my friend can play together. It can even just be via ip connection or something. I might check that game out for myself though, whenever I get bored of my NHL 2004 dynasty...

That's all I am asking, man.
You would enjoy it.
I cant really recommend many multi-player games like Diablo because I dont have any. :(
If you all find something cool, post it here, and perhaps I can join you all.
