Okay, with all the general managers we have had, guest host, before that Vince/Shane/Linda and such being in control. Before all that, who was the authority figure(s) on screen? Who books Andre vs Hulk? Was it just the managers, since everyone just had them.

I did not watch wrestling back in the day, just kind of curious to this.

Jack Tunney, followed by Gorilla Monsoon, then Sgt. Slaughter

Interesting question, and a good answer.

But I do have a follow-up question. How did they go from having Slaughter as the Commissioner, to having Vince become the on screen authority figure?

Also, I know that HBK, Foley and Regal followed Slaughter as the commish, but that was all during Vince's on screen owner stuff, wasn't it?

Slaughter was technically still the Commissioner for a while, but Vince is the owner so his authority supersedes Slaughter's.

Tunney and Monsoon were President's while Slaughter onwards were Commissioners.

Rowdy Roddy Piper was president after Monsoon.

Jack Tunney used to suspend or censor people every week. What a guy. WWF presidents ftw.

lol @ comments about Heenan and Bossman's mom and then Heenan's response sucking up and then being caught off camera! lol Classic HEEL! Heenan.

I really enjoyed it back in the day when there was an authority figure for tv and such, while McMahon just sat back and watched the cash roll in.

It just created so much more without knowing that the owner of the WWE was running things or making matches or competing in matches.

Remember that after Wrestlemania 26 Vince McMahon said he was retiring his character on screen? That didn't last long.

But if you die, isn't it having your lifetime revoked? or maybe discontinued?
