View Full Version : WWE SmackDown Taping Results (07/09) *Spoilers*
* They announced Drew McIntyre had resolved his visa issues. He apologized to Teddy Long for everything he did. Long wasn't buying it. McIntyre then said he would push to get Teddy Long inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. He'd have a better shot if he was a limo driver. Long said he would put McIntyre into the Money in the Bank match if he got on his hands and knees and said Long was handsome and it was an honor to work for him. McIntyre did it. Then Long swerved him, and said he also had to beat Kofi Kingston to get in.
* MVP got one of the last two spots winning a three-way over Dolph Ziggler and MVP, but after the match, Ziggler took out MVP with the sleeper.
* Rey Mysterio had his leg in a cast and Jack Swagger went backstage and attacked him and used the ankle lock. Big Show made the save.
* Curt Hawkins & Vance Archer b Christian & Matt Hardy when Christian walked out on Hardy and they double-teamed and pinned Hardy
* LayCool tried to teach Kaval how to apply make-up
* Drew McIntyre b Kofi Kingston to get into MITB. Very good match
* Straight Edge Society segment. Luke Gallows wanted Serena kicked out for drinking. Serena kept saying she was sorry. C.M. Punk says it's his decision and he forgives her and they hug. Gallows wasn't happy about this. Segment didn't get over live with boring chants.
* Cody Rhodes b JTG with Crossroads in a short match
* They announced Layla vs. Kelly Kelly for the title at Money in the Bank. Layla sprayed perfume in Kelly's eyes when she was doing an interview. Kelly made a comeback but Michelle McCool joined in. They told Kaval to finish her off but Kaval refused to attack Kelly.
* Big Show double count out Jack Swagger. Swagger was working on Show's bad leg when Kane came out and accused Swagger of being the one to hurt Undertaker. Swagger claimed he had an alibi. Kane said Swagger had a week to prove it or he will burn in hell.
I'll update this when I come across a more detailed report.

Christian heel turn?
Also, looks like Rey isn't on the show again. Maybe his new nickname will be "The Bi-Weekly Underdog".
Apparently he gets a week off every month now, as part of his new deal.

I am excited at the <textarea name="message" id="vB_Editor_QR_textarea" rows="10" cols="60" style="width: 100%; height: 100px; display: none;" tabindex="1" dir="ltr"></textarea> idea of Christian turning heel. He is a very bland face, just like in TNA.

I'm not sure if that's a full on Christian heel turn or just because of what Hardy did to him last week, but I hope it is.

Christian's turn is probably only a tease to see if he gets over..... if it doesn't, they can use the excuse that his desire to be on top blinded his actions and whatnot....

If they are turning Christian, I can see him winning the MitB and beating Rey for the title. A heel Christian vs a face Rey could be huge. Maybe they are doing it because Swagger clearly didn't get nearly as over as they had hoped and because Punk is hurt? For all we know, Punk could go face again and Christian could go heel. Either way, this angle intrigues me and I'll be ordering MitB for sure.
Off topic, who the hell takes Truth's place in the Raw MitB? Tatsu? Ryder? Kozlov?

sounds like another shitty show on paper. Of course I'll check it out regardless but yeah, on paper, wa wa waaaa.
McIntire vs Kofi (again) - at least their match at the last PPV was pretty great I hope they can top it otherwise this show has little hope.

I'm surprised the ladies opened the show. Apparently the WWE is high on Lay-Cool, so if this gets attention for the Women's Division, I'm all for it. They really need to get Beth Phoenix back, though, and get Serena in the ring.
I love it when Chavo Guerrero actually wrestles, so I am looking forward to the Triple Threat. I actually would have preferred Ziggler in the match, but whatever. MVP is good and all, but I feel like the dude could use a heel turn himself. Ziggler's pushes seem to be really start-stop. I don't know why they are aborting this Vickie Guerrero thing with him. Face turn for Ziggler when he's done with MVP?
People have to remember that Rey Mysterio has got a fucked up knee, and part of the reason he was given the World Heavyweight Title was probably because he is sticking around with it while The Undertaker takes some time off. I'm looking forward to his match with Jack Swagger, and I'm loving Swagger post-title loss.
Curt Hawkins is quickly becoming one of my Noid crushes. Vance Archer is also pretty serviceable while you're watching him (although when I'm not I don't really care). They've been getting some good wins together, and I'm looking forward to seeing them work with Christian and Matt Hardy, who can both pull good matches out of their ass these days. That they go over and are getting a slow build gives me hope for a Hart Dynasty vs. Gatecrashers match at SummerSlam. I'd prefer Hawkins & Archer over The Usos, that's for sure.
The Kaval/Lay-Cool stuff will at least get Low Ki over.
I've heard amazing things about the Kofi Kingston/Drew McIntyre match. I like Drew, and I'm glad the WWE is not pulling the plug on him. A clean win over the Intercontinental Champion is good for anybody. He might be a dark-horse pick to win Money in the Bank. I hope they have another match the following week over the IC Title. This Kofi/McIntyre rivalry is leading to some tremendous matches. If it just had a bit more of a personal story, it could be a sleeper candidate for feud of the year over time.
You know, I actually had a pipe-dream vision of Joey Mercury revealing himself and getting into Money in the Bank in Punk's place (do an angle where Vickie says that because Punk can't get it, but should be there, he can choose a replacement). Mercury has conquered addiction, and then he tries to conquer another demon he has -- Ladder Matches. This whole tension in the SES isn't really thrilling me. I'd rather they stay unified, with Serena actually getting her paws wet in the Women's Title scene.
Well, I was wrong. The singles side of the Cryme Tyme guys isn't going so well. I could see them ending up back together (maybe as heels this time) before too long. I'm not a big fan of this "Dashing" Cody Rhodes stuff, but he's a good worker. I'm sure his match with JTG will include at least one cool spot.
I love the way Michael Hayes hasn't dropped the Swagger/Big Show rivalry, despite the World Title now being on Mysterio. It's the next logical step for Kane to go after Swagger. It's quite good episodic television, actually. Better than RAW, which pretty much doesn't go anywhere a lot of the time.

I really liked that promo, actually. Some of Matt Hardy's better stuff not related to Mattitude. Christian is always good. Likewise, I am not sure this is a proper heel turn, but the more I think about it, the more I think it could be. Christian's always been a lot more interesting as a heel, and it's not like he's really going anywhere fast as a babyface. As a bad dude, Christian can cheat to win matches, which makes a rise to the top more likely -- and if Hayes plans to use him as a heel, then it'll be worth it.
It's not like SmackDown! is really short on faces. MVP, Kofi Kingston, Matt Hardy and Christian all have this problem where they are trying to get in the same door at the same time. All are over, all can work, and only Hardy really needs to be watched on the mic. You've got a similar problem with the rising heels (Ziggler, McIntyre and even Punk and Swagger), but what it comes down to is where they want to go with Christian. I'd just be happy with a push. I'm pulling for him to win Money in the Bank, even though I think Kofi Kingston or McIntyre perhaps have a better chance.

Watching this now and Ziggler won the triple threat for the spot in MITB, not MVP. Strange spoiler. Also the opening has been pretty strong, this is looking like it could be the best smackdown in a good few weeks.
Explains why it had MVP beating MVP and Chavo.
EDIT: Yeah, it didn't say that at all.

McIntye has lost his protection, which makes me somewhat interested in him for the first time since he was on his "non existant" losing streak.
The Chavo / Ziggler dynamics were interesting in the triple threat. From the plan for Chavo to just let Ziggler get the pin on MVP after double teams, to
Chavo trying to steal the win against Vicky's wishes as both Dolph and MVP were down. Good story.
Swagger using an ankle lock to drag Mysterio from the trainer's room to the stage was hilarious and awesome.
Christian's "turn" wasnt fully fledged but it wasn't just a simple as walking out, he took Hardy out himself before he went and it got a lot of heat. Hopefully he continues acting like this and then solidifies his heel turn at MITB.
Alberto Del Rio also has a new vignette featuring his butler, Juan...

LMAO during SD!, they just aired a commercial for the upcoming "Dragon's Gate" event which they said would be headlined by "The greatest wrestler in the world" Bryan Danielson.

Watching it on YouTube now, and while she's still far from hot stuff, it looks like Vickie's lost quite a bit of weight. Definitely liked the Triple Threat match and the opening segment with Drew.
