Could wrestling get away with the mysterious GM gimmick staying a mystery for a very long period of time with the proper booking? Or would the speculative nature of the fans require an answer?
Think Dr. Claw in Inspector Gadget.

I think with the proper writing, it is possible.
Discuss.
The longer they run with it the more build up it gets and then the pay-off needs to be BIG.
Sadly, I'm not sure there is anyone they can reveal as the GM that will give that pay-off. Maybe The Rock.

Sure. They can run with a computer for a little bit. Then get a guy in a suit holding a cat like Blofeld in the Bond movies. Then when it comes down to the big reveal, it was Vince McMahon all along.
Ah, who am I kidding. They already did that with the Undertaker and the "Higher Power".
Skynet is fine as it is. But there's got to be a better than than a jingle and Cole delivering the message.

Could they pull it off long term? Absolutely, with the right booking and writing. I do think that the payoff would have to be someone huge though, and I don't think there's anyone out there that would be big enough and shocking enough anymore.

What I'm saying though is that it would be designed for a payoff, or at least wouldn't have any timetable or plans set for one.

The only person it could be after it running for a long term is The Rock
I could see keeping it going, but I don't know how long I could put up with the "I have received an E-mail from the General Manager" bit.

I still think it would work for a while without any set timetable or plans for a payoff, however, eventually I think you have to give the fans someone to love/hate. I think they originally had a better timetable and plan for a payoff too, but I don't think they have a set timetable or plans for a payoff. It seems to me like they're kind of winging it right now with no detailed long term plans.

I don't think winging it is a problem though. It's presentation. The podium and instant message sounds aren't very dramatic or suspenseful.

Very true. Good point. I don't get why they couldn't come up with something better.

They could come up with something better. It's just uninspired writing. I don't know if it's that the writing team is bad, or that they are limited or intimidated by Vince, or perhaps nobody cares enough to put some thought and effort into it.

what are you referring to

First off, Doctor Claw is a bomb. they totally spoil it right in the credits.
Second, I think this angle will be better if it's short only because I think the longer t goes, the more chance WWE will make it Horswoggle or something, and utterly fuck it up. This is a business where the original figure could get fired or (if he's an active performer instead of a face man), and WWE has serious booking ADHD.
That being said, if WWE can actually make the payoff worth it, this could go on for months and still work.
Also, screw you Jeritron, the IM sound is going to be as over as Vickie Guerrero.

What would you suggest though?
A silhouette on the tron with a scrambled voice?

The one thing that bothers me most about this mysterious GM is when Michael Cole announces the email for everyone and everytime he says "And I quote" Of course you quote! It's not you saying it!

I thought he was just saying "and I quote" to remind everyone that the words he says aren't his, but those of the general manager. Cole doesn't want Cena getting mad at HIM for booking him in a 7 on 1 match, for example.

"And I quote" is a swerve. It's going to be as over as "EXCUSE ME!" In a couple weeks.

It would sound better if they ran the "female computer voice" off of wordspeak or something.

About as competent as Vicky.

Johnny Five is alive and is the GM of raw!!!!
They need to mask his voice like they did with DDP in the stalker angle.
Just sounds like Stephen Hawking atm.

Um, Hawking sounds nothing like the computer from RAW.

Also, If Cole is the GM it's going to be a big let down.

If Cole is the GM it's going to be a big let down.
Agreed, however I'm about 99.99% sure Cole isn't the anonymous RAW G.M., especially considering the "voice" eminating from the laptop was actually asking Cole to step in and stop Edge from destroying it.

Yeah... I do wish people would stop saying it's The Rock. Don't get me wrong, seeing Rock back on t.v. would be awesome, but I don't want to see him in a GM role... and the likelihood he would be associated with a product this shitty after doing movies just doesn't make sense, especially in a long term role.
Realistically, HHH is your best bet. He can play to the crowd as a face and be the conniving heel GM when needed.

I think they have held off without revealing the GM for too long at this point...but that's just me.

We should just have one giant Anonymous GM thread, like we did with all the Matt Hardy threads.
Only with the Anonymous GM one, we should then close the thread, and replace it with a message reading "LOCK JAW IS THE ANONYMOUS GM".
Lock Jaw, was that your voice on RAW or were you sending IMs and it was a computer voice reading them?
