It does look odd. But it may be that they are trying to make his character 'less silly', possibly for a future push. This is also shown in his interviews as of late which are less catch-phrase filled than before.

ah I never watch superstars as for the trunks they do seem odd after seeing him wearing the others for so long..... you know I usta hate his weird hybrid ring-gear before but now I kinda miss it guess it's true what they say 'you never know what you've got until it's gone':-\

Random thing about Ryder... The guy has been using the Rough Ryder for a couple of years and the guy never got a pin out of it, now in the last month he has won three matches (I think) with it. Possible indication that they are trying to get the move over for his eventual push.

Either way -> More Ryder = Win

I liked his look. It was unique.

However, it seems like he is getting a push, and it goes along with my theory:

"The less ring attire you have, the bigger push you will get."

There are exceptions, but for the most part it is true.

Personally I thought it made Ryder stand out now and if you think the slight change means a push dream on. Until Miz drops the US title which I don't see anytime soon then maybe he could get a good run with that belt cuz I can't see him tagging with anyone one the current roster. He's looked great for years now they just need to find a way to evolve his character in order to stand out and be about the gimmick.

Afterlife
07-10-2010, 06:07 PM
What punchline? The attire made him stand out in the crowd. It was a look unique to him. It's not exactly like wearing a dress in the ring, it's stylized tights.

thedamndest

It wasn't wearing a dress to the ring but at the same time it wasn't much better. With Vito's dress there was at least a gimmick to that. This was just different for the sake of being different and I don't think it lent anything to his guido persona.

He "stood out." Difference for the sake of being different isn't enough, though. Unless you stand out for a specific reason, and capitalise on it, it's pointless.

I like the fact that they don't seem to think he needs a crutch. I'm not sure I agree, but that's not the point here.

This. I can understand why you would like him standing out, Afterlife, but the WWE giving him more "serious" tights is probably a very good thing for Zack Ryder. The same goes with his change of finisher to the probably easier to take Rough Ryder. The Zack Attack was awesome, but something a bit more gentle could be taken to mean that he's going to be hitting it a lot.

Mr. Nerfect

Yes and no. It really depends. Goldust wouldn't be Goldust if he didn't have the full body suit. Zack Ryder's still got the same vibe about him -- he just looks more serious about things.

"Oh Radioooo... tell me everything thing you know."
I can't believe how "1/2 of the Edge clones" has transformed into the Zack Ryder of today. Was the WWE intentionally holding back his talent, or did they really not know that this guy has all the keys to success as a singles star?? And now that he looks and sounds less ridiculous, he can be taken more seriously. :y:

Mr. Nerfect
07-11-2010, 10:07 AM
I think the WWE has always known about the talent that is Zack Ryder (and even Curt Hawkins). The WWE put them in a role where they were working with the top guys on SmackDown! (and even played a role in the main event of WrestleMania XXIV), and I don't think they would do that if they didn't think they were at least capable of doing it.

Ryder "gets it." He seems like one of those guys that is always trying to make himself better. He and Hawkins would do those videos for YouTube, even though they weren't called to them as part of their job, and I envision that Ryder had a lot to do with his guido gimmick. He's constantly coming up with new nicknames for himself, to just get himself that little bit more over as a dick. His ring work is impressive, and even if he doesn't always get the biggest pushes, he'll still do little things (like changing his ring attire) to make sure that he's doing something.

That he's only 25 gives me great hope that he'll mature into a huge asset to the company. I could see him winning the United States Title very soon, and even being the guy who replaces R-Truth in Money in the Bank, and really helping that match out by doing something impressive.

Unique tights aren't a carte blanch hindrance. They don't do anything to help Ryder, however, and they make him stick out in a "This guy will be teaming with Hornswoggle" sense.

It seems like a crutch, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't need a crutch to work the gimmick. I mean, for the same reason Afterlife thought it made it look unique, it was hard for me to give him a fair shake as his own entity. I mean, Brock Lesnar has a big, throbbing cock on his chest, but just because he stands out doesn't mean he doesn't look goofy as shit with his cocksword.

He's still got a distinct aestetics, anyway. His entrance theme is recogniseable, he's got his ring jackets and his attire still has the same logos and such. It's not like he's decided to wear black trunks or anything.
