I think it's kinda sad that Kaval looked soo good in this match yet they had him lose to Eli because of his size. I was watching "The Soup" last night on E! and they showed Eli struggling to cut a promo on mustaches. How bad do you think Eli is on a scale of 1 to 10?

Also, side note

Laycool's interaction with Kaval is about the most entertaining thing WWE has going right now (well, besides the random backstage Rosa segments :naughty:)

First time I see this guy, but he has a horrible look. Doesn't look intimidating at all, just homeless.

eli is a servicable big man with a cool look and given time COULD be the next big monster heel WWE RAW brand has needed.

The dude has had like 3 tv matches...ya'll know your role and give him time to get better on the mic.

Cool look?

The only thing I see him doing with this look is beating people up to get some change for food.

Before Kipp Christianson became Eli Cottonwood, he graduated from St. John's University in NYC with a degree in psychology!

If anyone needed steroids.... it's him...... The guy looks skinnier than me.....

Yeah he may be tall but that doesn't make you a bad ass, he is too thin and not muscular enough so he looks awkward, like a young Kevin Nash minus steroids.

Some wrestlers do better in the indie scene. There are less (any?) limitations on what the performer can or can't do. Kaval hasn't really shown me anything yet that proves he should be number 1. For WWE standards I would say that Percey Watson or Alex Riley should be number 1 for right now.

just re watched cottonwood vs kaval. I take back my previous post to an extent. He did use some pretty unique offensive maneuvers. Nothing mind blowing but servicable.

Cottonwood was not awkward or clumsy or any of the things you guys said. He uses the typical big man offense against a smaller opponent.

Both guys put on a good match showing off good skill.

Cottonwoods frontal choke slam was tight.

Cottonwood!

I've seen some of his work in FCW, and it wasnt really any better. He kinda reminds me of Kurrgan if anyone remembers him from the late 90's. The sad thing is that Kurrgan at least had the Jackyll in the beginning and even tried when he was a face (when he use to dance around with ICP, I think he was wrestling Taka and he got on his knees to make fun of him) I just think that he just falls into that generic big guy slot. He's really green, akward in the ring, and he's in his mid 30s. I'm sure there are plenty of guys that fall in that 6ft 4 or taller/ 300+ lbs that are younger or have been in ring worker.

I refuse to assume he will never get better granted it would make sense and follow the "A-Typical Big Man" syndrome.

Two things will make me care about Eli Cottonwood:

1) He suddenly becomes more entertaining to watch in the ring.

2) He dresses up as a wizard. Something about the gimmick just seems like it would work for Cottonwood.

I think the dude needs something. I appreciate they are trying to go with a "human monster" thing with him, but it just isn't working. When he's tossed off NXT, let him work in FCW for a few months and then have someone discover him on the streets homeless, or something. They can bring up his mental issues, and have him come back as a psychotically enraged giant.

Otherwise, they could use his psychology degree and have him become the WWE's new kayfabe psychologist, conducting interviews with certain guys to understand why they are doing what they are doing. All the while, he should be working to get his ring skills just a little bit sharper.

I watch FCW every week, and when I first saw Eli, I figured it was only a matter of time before he got a call-up based solely on his size.

A year, later... it's still based solely on his size. He's the least flexible big man I've ever seen. Even Yokozuna could throw thrust kicks. Eli tries for that "big boot," and catches guys Riley/Hennig's size in the chest.

He would be moderately entertaining as a heel's bodyguard whose sole purpose was to destroy people with that chokeslam, but pairing him with a face and trying to put him in matches that last any longer than a squash is a huge mistake.
